( photo credit )* Last night I saw Jeff Mangum perform live, something which I've always dreamed of but never thought in a million years would do. I was just entering my teens when Neutral Milk Hotel broke up (shortly after releasing their landmark album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea ). It was a few more years until I discovered the band, but they were incredibly formative in my musical development. It always saddened me that, due to Jeff Mangum's legendary disappearance from the music world post-breakup, I would never get the chance to see the [...]
Our generation has grown up with some certainties about the bands we'll never see. No matter what, we'll never see the Beatles live, and there's nothing we can do about Nirvana; if we didn't make it already, we've missed our chance. Until recently, that list of impossible things included Jeff Mangum , indie rock hero and lead singer of Neutral Milk Hotel , who legendarily disappeared from the public eye over 10 years ago, leaving his records to circulate in the ether, quietly gathering an ever-larger following. On a Tuesday in February (or, last night), the [...]
It appears that a piece of Neutral Milk Hotel folklore has been found in an antique shop in New Jersey. ... Read the full article at http://www.prefixmag.com/news/ original-neutral-milk-hotel-in -the-aeroplane-over-/61576/

Photo by You Ain't No Picasso Ever heard of The Apples In Stereo ? The Elephant 6? Robert Bobbert and the Bubble Machine ? Okay, that last one was a children's album that's only tangentially related to this here post, but it just serves to show that Robert Schneider is a seriously busy and talented dude. From kickstarting the whole Elephant 6 collective to pumping out albums full of psychedelic pop-rock-and producing that classic Netural Milk Hotel album we all know and [...]

Words by Jim My inbox gets annihilated by emails on a daily basis. I almost feel bad for it. PR people from around the globe send us the most random stuff. Seriously, I'm not saying that we are super important and we have PR agents banging our door down, because that's definitely not the case. It's just the power of Google and Twitter search, I guess. If we feature a band from the UK, you can bet that two days later we'll have emails about the newest dub step grunge trip hop artist from [...]

here we meet again. so, mr mangum is doin some dates. not many dates, mind you, but enough to get some really smart people to spend their hard earned cash to travel to these dates. maybe its just me, and it just may be, but i was a huge, huge, huge fan of neutral milk hotel in my 202s, but now that im on the wrong side of 35, they/he just doesnt ring the same bell as they used to. sure, its still great stuff, but it just doesnt speak to me the way it used to. this time 10 [...]
![[Flashback] – …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead – "Worlds Apart"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4005880_lg.jpg)
Tweet I've never been impacted by a song as much as I was the first time I heard " Worlds Apart ." I had a job just out of high school that had me flying back and forth between Indiana and Washington D.C. each week. I would go out every night and just have my mid-west mind nearly in shock by the amount of incredible music to be seen live and found in the numerous mom-and-pop vinyl shops. For the first time in my life I wasn't relying [...]

We've been grumbling for a while now about the lack of news about West Coast dates from Neutral Milk Hotel leader Jeff Mangum , whose return to live performances had heretofore been consigned to the Eastern Seaboard. Thankfully, that's no longer the case: online pre-sale starts at 10am today for Mangum's two shows at the Fox, on April 9th and 10th . Below, dig a shaky clip of Mangum playing "Two-Headed Boy" at a show last year. Related Posts: [...]

The presence of the former Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum is one of the real curveballs in this year's Coachella lineup . All Tomorrow's Parties events aside, the once-reclusive Mangum doesn't really seem like a festival guy. But Neutral Milk Hotel fandom is a powerful thing, and if more people are watching Mangum, that probably just means the "Oh Comely" singalong is going to be louder. In the leadup to Coachella, Mangum has just announced a few West Coast dates, and we've got them listed out below. Read More...

Coachella 2012 lineup is out! Of particular interest to Waved Rumor is: - the high profile slot for Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) - The Hives! The Hives! Need I say more? - the small type/dayslot for Black Lips?? C'mon Coachella - Black Lips rule the stage! - Noel Gallagher and his Birds (or wot ever) - maybe it will be a star-studded celeb fest? - Radiohead - eh....I've never been a Radiohead head. What do you see that pokes your eyeballs in a good way?
Finishing up classics week with a review of Neutral Milk Hotel's seminal In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. What do you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why? What should I review next, eh? WATCH THE REVIEW

Frank Yang Most bands that name themselves for prehistoric entities - your Mastadons, your Dinosaur Jrs - seem to do so at least a little for the heavy and/or primal connotations that come with it. Not so much for Brooklyn's Caveman , who seem to have chosen the name ironically as there's nothing raw or neolithic about their smooth and polished debut album Coco Beware . Rather than club you about the head with a bone, Caveman makes an impression with shimmering guitars, floaty synths and tight harmonies delivering [...]

Tiffiny and I both love Neutral Milk Hotel. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is one of my very favorite albums, and "King of Carrot Flowers (Pt. One)" is one of my favorite songs on it. This morning I sent Tiffiny a text to tell her about our friend Jenny Owen Youngs ' gorgeous cover, and she was already watching it. MFEO. Our friends have great taste in music. Check out White Wives' cover of the same tune here .
