We've been grumbling for a while now about the lack of news about West Coast dates from Neutral Milk Hotel leader Jeff Mangum , whose return to live performances had heretofore been consigned to the Eastern Seaboard. Thankfully, that's no longer the case: online pre-sale starts at 10am today for Mangum's two shows at the Fox, on April 9th and 10th . Below, dig a shaky clip of Mangum playing "Two-Headed Boy" at a show last year. Related Posts: [...]

The presence of the former Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum is one of the real curveballs in this year's Coachella lineup . All Tomorrow's Parties events aside, the once-reclusive Mangum doesn't really seem like a festival guy. But Neutral Milk Hotel fandom is a powerful thing, and if more people are watching Mangum, that probably just means the "Oh Comely" singalong is going to be louder. In the leadup to Coachella, Mangum has just announced a few West Coast dates, and we've got them listed out below. Read More...

Coachella 2012 lineup is out! Of particular interest to Waved Rumor is: - the high profile slot for Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) - The Hives! The Hives! Need I say more? - the small type/dayslot for Black Lips?? C'mon Coachella - Black Lips rule the stage! - Noel Gallagher and his Birds (or wot ever) - maybe it will be a star-studded celeb fest? - Radiohead - eh....I've never been a Radiohead head. What do you see that pokes your eyeballs in a good way?
Finishing up classics week with a review of Neutral Milk Hotel's seminal In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. What do you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why? What should I review next, eh? WATCH THE REVIEW

Frank Yang Most bands that name themselves for prehistoric entities - your Mastadons, your Dinosaur Jrs - seem to do so at least a little for the heavy and/or primal connotations that come with it. Not so much for Brooklyn's Caveman , who seem to have chosen the name ironically as there's nothing raw or neolithic about their smooth and polished debut album Coco Beware . Rather than club you about the head with a bone, Caveman makes an impression with shimmering guitars, floaty synths and tight harmonies delivering [...]

Tiffiny and I both love Neutral Milk Hotel. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is one of my very favorite albums, and "King of Carrot Flowers (Pt. One)" is one of my favorite songs on it. This morning I sent Tiffiny a text to tell her about our friend Jenny Owen Youngs ' gorgeous cover, and she was already watching it. MFEO. Our friends have great taste in music. Check out White Wives' cover of the same tune here .

Since I will be getting foot surgery next week, I think I can safely say I'm not attending any more concerts this year so the December "list" season will be starting early this year. And since I will be stuck in my house for a month after the surgery, expect lots more lists and posts this month! Aren't you lucky? 1.

Regardless of your spiritual allegiance or thoughts regarding freezing temperatures, the winter/holiday season is an interesting one. There's something about this period of the calendar year that just feels different from everything else. Summer has the vibe and energy of hot, sticky freedom; spring lives and breathes with the promise of a reawakening; and fall is all about getting in line and preparation. Winter, though, is slightly more splintered. Some people see Christmas/Hanukkah/the Winter Solstice/Festivus as a time for family and friends and celebrating the inherent warmth and goodness in us all. Others view these as tired traditions, [...]
Neutral Milk Hotel's "Naomi" from Naomi Yang on Vimeo . Former Galaxie 500 bassist Naomi Yang, currently in Damon & Naomi , has directed a video for the 1996 Neutral Milk Hotel song that was supposedly written about her ("She walks through Cambridge..."). It might seem a little weird and narcissistic to lip-sync a love song to yourself, but Yang has nice teeth so hey, why not? In other Neutral Milk Hotel news, Jeff Mangum is going out on another tour in 2012 (I'm going, woo hoo!) and [...]

In 1996 Neutral Milk Hotel released their debut album, On Avery Island , on that album was a track called "Naomi" which was apparently written about ex-Galaxie 500 member Naomi Yang. 15 years may have passed since that album was released and that song was first heard by Naomi Yang herself but the love for it reigns on and in turn, she has now created a visual to accompany the track which can be viewed at the top via Pitchfork .

Kisha Bari If you were to ask anyone at SXSW this past March what was the best thing they'd seen, odds are you'd have heard " Charles Bradley " in response; I certainly did. Like his Daptone labelmate Sharon Jones , the Florida-born, Brooklyn-based classic soul singer had travelled a long, hard road filled with false starts and personal tragedies, but with the release of his first full-length album No Town For Dreaming earlier this year and accompanying praise for both his recordings and performances, it seemed he [...]
