Apologies for these much-too-late lists that are about to get splashed on the pages of this blog, but I feel like my time in 2012 got cutoff before I could make my closing statements and wrap my head around what transpired last year. I'll try to keep things brief and tidy as possible, but I've been known to let my words get away from me some, and there's considerable ground to cover. Hopefully you'll indulge me. With that let's turn our attention to local videos, which seemed to be in scarcer supply than they were in 2011. And [...]
Music has taken me many places man but my most recent adventure might be the one to top them all. I spent last week on a 26,000 acre private Villa off Mexico's virgin coast. I was there curating the music for someones 50th birthday and this person shall remain nameless but all I can say is that my life will never be the same. A good friend asked me what I got from the trip and aside from the most luxurious partying I've ever done, hanging with some of the most beautiful and elegant women I've ever encountered, having [...]
New tunage from New Animal : this is an instrumental recorded around the time of "Falling Up" - it was originally going to be an EP with 5 songs, but we decided to make it a 2 song single anyways. This is one of the tracks that got left off. The video is from our trip to NYC this summer where we played a few shows as a duo. - also, there is a lil video of us playing "They Won't Let Me Go" acoustically on this waterfall in north GA. [...]

Long holiday, the weekend has me zonked from tryptophan, complex carbohydrates, and maybe a litte holiday cheer. 'Tis the season and there are lots of great samplers that will be posted over the next few weeks. Tonight, we have two samplers from indie labels: Love Our Records and Old Flame Records. BEST OF Love Our Records SAMPLER Love Our Records (LOR) is out Great Britain, based in London. They are committed to supporting and nurturing new music, and are offering a 10 song [...]

Wether you want to believe or you are forced to believe ghosts may be real. People like to think that this is not it. Meaning there is something in-between life and death. We won't know though until the end and we don't want to be caught there. Here's some songs about ghosts for this months Halloween theme. Enjoy! Songs about ghosts: Ghost Police MP3 by New Animal from s/t (2011) Ghost Movement MP3 by Dax Riggs from We Sing of Only Blood [...]

While September was a solid (but ultimately slow) month for local music with impressive new releases from the likes of Slowriter and Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics , October looks like a shoe-in for the best month of local music this year (for me anyway). The diversity might not be as clearly articulated as it has been in months past, but the quality to quantity ratio is off the charts. Fan of heavy music? BAM. We've got new music from Wizard Smoke and the debut EP from experimental post-metal outfit Stallone . You like [...]

Atlanta's New Animal first popped up on my radar last year with the raw fiercely addictive number "Nightmares of Candy Yang & The Black Italian," a track band member Derek Burdette composed while banging away on his phone and a chord organ after waking up from a nightmare about two past failed relationships. The duo's newest track, "Falling Up," works around a similar visceral and emotional release with raw home-recorded vocal harmonies billowing and building into sublime heights. The moment this song turns into real headphone candy though is at the 3:35 mark when that flurry of keys [...]

Lots of rock this week and group's finding their way to this list once again. The Sweet Serenades have a new album out ( Help Me!) , and the track below should help give some flavor to their latest work. E-603 , the electronic project of Ethan Ward, comes to us along with the entirely free album, The Remixes Vol. 1 . This album includes remixes of Robyn, Two Door Cinema Club and Passion Pit to name a few. Also in the remix line, Ungdomskulen has a spacious [...]

As well as our regular Video of the Day posts , these vids have also caught our attention recently, and given the backlog we have, we thought it was time for a big round up of these as well. So here goes. Mean Creek's video for Young & Wild perfectly captures the innocence, the excitement and the carefree joy of youthful moments reflected in the song's message. a a FOE's new single [...]
New Animal's single, "Falling Up", is available for purchase here and here . http://www.newanimal.net/

Fans who have been keeping close tabs on psyche-pop duo New Animal have witnessed a young band strive to become as proficient at providing engaging visual backdrops for their music as they are at crafting elegant pop songs. To date the duo have posted 38 videos posted to their YouTube channel , which contains everything from live and studio cuts to self-produced found footage affairs, as well as a genuine stab or two at more conceptual filmmaking. But the group's latest video, released just yesterday, is an altogether different beast. Written and directed by Chandler [...]

You'll be pleased to know that you are, here and now, seeing the premiere of Atlanta duo, New Animal’s (@newanimalmusic), latest video for "Falling Up!" Like a tap dripping steadily and slowly, this song and it’s accompanying video will find a way to captivate your mind for at least the next few hours. With a simplistic array of thought provoking keys, a swift, walking-pace tambourine beat and the band’s usual layered tenor vocals, the song lends itself to being the perfect soundtrack to a love story. The accompanying video [...]

Amid the coverage and self-congratulation analyses surrounding the Tampa GOP gathering, we were still able to find moments of levity. Things like learning that Romney is down with the Killers, or that big booty birthday cake from that 2Chainz and Kanye video, and Orbital performing with Stephen Hawking for the Paralympics Opening Ceremony. With a three day weekend ahead of us, you better believe we have a lot to cover to tide your over during the holiday, while take into account what you may hav...

It's 1:46am and I'm struggling with my words. It's not that I'm caught by surprise or overwhelmed or left speechless by what I'm listening to; it's more a case of personal expectations and something of a mental pushback on my part. New Animal have just released a new two-song single and I'm tempted to reach into my usual bag of adjectives—ambient, breezy, gauzy, atmospheric, diffuse. But there's something about the exquisite melodies and harmonies that are pouring like honey into my headphones, something about the insistent stomp and hypnotic sleigh bell jangle that's telling me to take a [...]

So when the fuck did New Animal decide to create a slice of supreme pop and not invite us to the party? This track is like someone just caught our best daydream and put a beat to it, nice work. Bag a copy on cassette if you know what's good for you - it's here .
I'm always down to help represent for our friend Rob over at Old Flame Records . He's just released this new single from Atlanta's New Animal , and I'm really digging this lead single. For a duo, it's got a real dense feeling to it, with multiple layers, both instrumentally and vocally. As the song slowly unfolds, the two pile upon more sounds, creating a rather interesting pop collage. If you like what you hear, you can grab the single from Old Flame , or you can wait a [...]

New Animal - Falling Up Had my eye on Atlanta-based duo Kris Hermstad and Derek Burdette for a time now - they just seem to get better the longer they collab. Here’s the new single that translates the thick thunderclouds of a southern summer storm into rising pop quality. Look for this b/w of “They Won’t Let Me Go” on cassette or digitally today from Old Flame Records .
