Smallpools is a four-piece outfit founded in Los Angeles with ties to New York, New Jersey and Oregon. The brand new band consists of Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums), and their first step into prominence is with “Dreaming,” their debut single produced by Captain Cuts. The band explains the song: "In contrast to the upbeat vibe of the music, the song talks about a moment where everything goes wrong in a situation where you thought you had it all figured out. A moment we've all experienced to some degree, but most often [...]

The Secret Panda Society was born out of a combined interest from Rob Stern and Joe Benny in the new bass music that was infecting the EDM scene. This multi-genre duo from Baltimore now joins Simplify, and drops the 2-track retro-themed EP ‘Crop Top‘. ‘The Hometown Hustle‘ is a Midtempo banger dripping with disco vibes, while ‘80′s In My Mercedes‘ is a melodic Dubstep monster (with basically the best title ever) sure to set any dance floor on fire. "Hey Anna", a blossoming New York area based band, brings you the salty shores of the coasts and the fast-paced excitement of the city. The band came to life when 3 sisters–who've been making music together since since before they could eat solid food–met up with two long-time best friends in an overheated 8 by 8 practice room in Newark, NJ. The result: a mixture of intimate vocal harmonies perched atop poppy melodies that meet soaring, atmospheric alt rock. Along with their favorite shirts, the sisters swap lead vocals and instruments, with Anna and Erin Rauch-Sasseen on [...]

Wow, is pretty much all I can say. Swedish trio, NONONO, have put out two of the most impressive songs I’ve heard in awhile. “Pumpin Blood” is a joyous romp complete with bouncing synths and a vivacious whistles, and “Down Under” is a breathtaking slice of melancholy played out over a massive beat. It's a rare for a band to play both sides of the emotional coin and do it so well, but NONONO make it feel easy. Lead singer Stina Wäppling has a voice that immediately makes you feel like you’re in love. All I know is that with [...]

Munich Germany's synth-pop quartet, Claire, follow up their debut EP with a new upbeat synth-pop single that fits perfectly between Viceroy and Goldroom on any summer playlist. “Games” is indie pop brilliance cleverly moved by a house beat, steel drums, and breezy boy/girl trade off vocals. The only possible negative is that there doesn’t seem to be a quick legal way of obtaining the song yet, so stay on the lookout and enjoy this lovely sun-drenched video in the meantime. Walla's "No Time" is a track that grabs you immediately. Every layer is built with the intent to be (good) catchy, whether it's the opening synth chords, anthemic falsetto chorus, groove-disco drums, or awesome guitar/synth sound that kicks in during the bridges, there are no weak links. LA-based Walla fit right into the current upswell [...]

Simple but grandiose. Straightforward, yet crooked. Fresh but somehow familiar. It's ColorKaleido - one of the latest bands to transcend the danish alternative pop scene. The duo go back years as friends, but it wasn't until the summer of 2011 that the musical sparks and flickering lights starting buzzing. ColorKaleido was born, and in spite of the young age they've already developed a completely new sound, broad appealing but crooked enough to fill a void. ColorKaleido is a mix of purely condensed musical energy, contrasting voluminous vocals retaining airy simplicity. An explosion of [...]

20 year old singer songwriter Zoe Kypri loved the Artful Dodger original tune so much she decided to record her own version to represent the ladies. She then decided she would send it in to the label. The label thought it was BIG. Who sent it to a couple of Djs who thought it was BIG. Who happened to play on a couple of radio stations who thought it was BIG. Who happened to have a few listeners who all thought it was BIG, including Disclosure . So [...]

Got sent the video for "Better Man Than He" by UK artist Sivu and I am mightilly impressed. Not only is the video amazing (they filmed him singing live while under an MRI scanner), but the track is about as lovely as they come. Real subtle indie pop beauty. His new track "Bodies" is equally as amazing with an EP to come in June. I think we may have a star in our hands. Will definitely be keeping an eye out on him. Check out the [...]

London-based production duo Snakehips present their debut release ‘On & On’ – an impressive musical slice of electronica, featuring the sultry vocals of hotly tipped Australian beauty, George Maple. Coming out on top of a burgeoning wave of new electronic talent from the UK, Snakehips’ original production efforts and unmistakable style [...]

Don't know much about Melbourne, Australia artist Owl Eyes except that she is one talented lady. Got sent her video for first single "Closure" off her debut album Nightswim (which is out now) and I was instantly hooked. She's got a lovely dream pop sound that I'm a sucker for. Her looks don't hurt the cause either. Check out her soundcloud/video for "Closure" below , plus the title track from her [...]

Every once in a glorious while there is a song that grabs you by the ears, slaps you across the face, snaps you awake from the malaise of ho-hum new music that seems to be everywhere, Betty Who's 'Somebody Loves You' is just that song. I like to prepare for music festivals by giving every artist a listen. The great thing about Coachella is there are so many artists of all genres that I always come across something I've missed. There are a lot of acts I'm looking forward to that don't need any coverage: Phoenix, Local Natives, New Order, [...]
