Sally Russel, aka Sally Seltmann, aka New Buffalo comes fresh from down under (that's Australia for those who are wondering) and brings with her a unique sound in the vein of Regina Spektor and Leslie Feist. Her delicate voice just flutters over sparse but angelic rhythms (see "I'm the Drunk and You're The Star"). "Versary" has a Three Dog Night like beat that has her voice lulling the listener into a den of sound (and the bells are a nice touch). And my favorite "Emotional Champs" is what Sufjan Stevens would sound like if he had two [...]

New Buffalo Cheer Me Up Thank You The vocal quirks - the deep sighs, the panned harmonies - remind me of Imogen Heap , but maybe slower, simpler. And is Sally Seltman really happier, or as she puts it, cheered up? Or is she still melancholic over the loss of a friend or a lover or a sibling yet trying to put on a brave face. It's no mistake that on its second outing the tail-end of the clichéd mothers-little-helper line, "and look at [...]

Sundays always seem to be the most appropriate day for lounging around. Even though it is officially the first day of a new week, many of us consider Sundays to mark the end of a hard and strenuous work week; one that is best rewarded by doing a limited amount of anything productive. I suppose being that many of you celebrate Easter, this particular Sunday is more of the same with the addition of chocolate, ham, and whatever else may entertain your taste buds. I figured featuring an artist who is light in nature would hit the spot today, [...]

New Buffalo - Cheer Me Up Thank You. Sometimes you come across a song so perfect I don't really know what to say. The lyrics really do all the talking for me. Normally I don't have any problem talking shit, but this song by New Buffalo pretty much leaves me speechless. The opening vocal chord, the deeply strummed guitar that bleeds into piano. It's nothing short of beautiful. In the meantime, people might be interested to know that Sally Seltmann is married to Darren Saltmann, whom you might know from another fabulous Australian export: the Avalanches. He actually produced her...
