you know all those bonus tracks that surface once an album is released? we used to get them as b-sides. occasionally an instrumental would be bunged on there, or a remix, but in the 80s, you were pretty much guaranteed at least an album track if not something which didn't make the cut. for kids with only a few 7 inches to entertain them throughout the summer, this could mean that you were as familiar with an artist's rarities as you [...]

where the hell did july go? seriously. i can't believe it's august already. it's kind of freaking me out a little bit. by the way, did you catch amercia's best dance crew last night? team fanny pak . that's all i have to say. i'm not ashamed to say that i'm obsessed with this crew. lil' mama - shawty get loose (feat. chris brown and t-pain) [...]
The full version of "Single," the Ne-Yo/New Kids On The Block collaboration that was teased yesterday , has hit the Web, and... well, it still sounds pretty much like a Ne-Yo track that has a guest rapper (who I'm pretty sure is one Mr. Donald "Donnie" Wahlberg, unless Jon Knight was working on his tongue-twisting skills during downtime in the real estate business) and a chorus of backing vocalists. Related: The song's play on the word "single," in which one of the New Kids refers to the possibility of playing the song at the club, is ickily reminiscent of [...]

Single of the Week - Speedmarket Avenue State thought singles were dead but nobody seems to have told the music industry. Before we consign singles to the 21st century curiosity pile, we had a listen. This Week: Speedmarket Avenue, David Holmes,Guggenheim Grotto, The Red Labels, New Kids On The Block, Innerpartysystem and Flotbots . Single of the Week: Speedmarket Avenue - Way Better Now This debut single from the latest FIFA Records signing oozes youthful exuberance. The Swedish six-piece band closely follow the modus operandi [...]
A snippet of a collaboration between New Kids On The Block and Ne-Yo has made its way out to the Internet, and from what I can tell, it's pretty much a Ne-Yo leftover that happens to have a five-man chorus of backing vocalists. (Although is that Donnie Wahlberg rapping at the beginning of the clip?) Woe the beast known as the slow news day, for this is what it brings you: Songs that you wouldn't even care enough about to flip the station over while stuck on a traffic and accident-choked highway. Clip after the jump. [...]
Michael Jackson is collaborating with New Kids On The Block? Are they for real? Assuming he doesn't still think Donnie et al are still in their teens, the only reason he'd team up with a group he wouldn't have been caught dead with 20 years ago is that he really misses 20 years ago . And it seems he's not alone. We've got Sonic Youth filling most to all of their sets with Daydream Nation , Public Enemy taking a nation of millions back in time, Dinosaur Jr. reunited, R.E.M. showing off a drummer, My Bloody Valentine [...]
every once in a while i find myself liking a song and then realizing how much of a fool i am for doing so. what's that? yes, ladies and gents, that's called a guilty pleasure. here are some tracks that i'm so ashamed that i like. nlt - karma [boy bands are coming back and this one [...]
Seriously. This whole thing with NKOTB coming back is probably the greatest thing to happen to most of these women, who mainly spend their time reading Us and masturbate to thoughts of seeing Brad Pitt's new tattoo. Right? P.S. Donnie and Danny Wood still look like garbage mixed in with biohazard material. (mp3) New Kids On The Block - Click Click Click Godspeed!
Mark E. Smith (The Fall) is 70 years old and still punk as fuck. I saw The Fall like 6 years ago at the Knitting Factory with Midget Handjob (ex Misguided Youth, Clawhammer, Circle Jerks, etc. etc. etc.) and it totally sucked. That's right, I said it. But I won't dispute the claim that the [...]
Not. Dude is f**king weeeeeeeaak. But I bet he feels a lot stronger when he beats on his wife, blames it on her bipolar disorder, and gets held in custody without bail. I mean, that must be why he's done it more than once, right? What a dick. Oh hey and while we're on the [...]

So I did get an e-mail from one reader yesterday who suggested it was rather unfair that despite giving the New Kids on the Block plenty of writing space, I didn't include a song, even though the Stone Temple Pilots got an airing. I know I said yesterday it would be fun to revisit parts of the New Kids' catalogue and try to figure out what in God's name I was thinking at seven and eight years of age, but I'll be honest with you, the thought really terrified me. [...]
Notice, please, that this post's headline does not say "New kids on the blog." but that it does in fact say "NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK." That's no typo, folks. I figured that because our genius tag-line "New kids on the blog" (which took its first breath of life in Cody's Midfield General post) is [...]
Three quick thoughts on Christmas music: 1. My favorite Christmas song is probably David Bowie & Bing Crosby doing "Little Drummer Boy", followed by Bruce Springsteen's classic "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". But Weird Al's holiday music ranks right up there. 2. The worst Christmas song of all-time is Paul McCartney's "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time". This song, like most of McCartney's solo shit, is terrible, with awful keyboards and lyrics that are happy to be the point of being stupid. 3. I still can't believe the lyric in Band Aid's "Do [...]

D o you want to annoy the piss out of someone this holiday season? I've posted a few of the worst, most annoying, and downright creepiest Christmas songs ever committed to tape. This doesn't count the pure genius of the Jingle Dogs though. Download these at your own peril and let me know what some of your least favorite holiday tunes are. With a name like Burial, you know this guy came to party. I've never really gotten that into dubstep. It's nice and dark, which I like when shaking ass, but dubstep doesn't make me want to shake my ass. However, I was giving Burial's latest a third test spin while napping on and off, and it hit the sweet spot somewhere. Now me like. Last weekend was a girls' weekend (out of town for that wedding ) where I got to lounge around cheap motel swimming pools with friends hearkening back to elementary school. While we laid in the sun, avoided Mr. Skeevy McPervert (who thought that the fact he was there with his kids and his back hair was some kind of turn-on), and consumed the fruits of the included continental breakfast, we discussed VERY IMPORTANT THINGS. Things like, "Who was your favorite New Kid On The Block and why?" The discussion started as we were talking about Saira, the [...]
Perhaps the oddest pairing of reality TV shows yet: Jordan Knight, ex-New Kids on the Block and Syd Little, ex-Little and Large. They're going to be working together as holiday reps. music tv jordan knight new kids on the block syd little
