For the first time in my short radio career I had to program a show last night despite not feeling very well. While the show (i think) turned out pretty good it was really tough to get inspired to search out much brand new music. I did manage to get some brand new songs from Denver's Bonnie and the Beard, Portland's Michael Dean Damron, Orlando's The Woolly Bushmen, Louisiana's Hurray For The Riff Raff and the internet's Noah with his "semi-viral" cover of LMFAO's "Sexy And I Know It." If that sounds like the good stuff [...]

New London Fire of Asbury Park, NJ experiments with sound, creating an exciting, and often surprising, aural landscape that propels the superb first half of their third album, The Dirt The Blood The Faith . Kicking off with "Other Side of Town," the band careens like an old wooden roller coaster car whizzing dangerously fast along a rickety track. "Rise," another standout, becomes an ominous, atmospheric anthem that perfectly segues into "Until the Light Goes Out on Me," a short campfire hymn presented as a sing-along. "I Don't See You Anymore" has the breezy vibe of vintage [...]
New London Fire is back with their new album The Dirt, The Blood, The Faith . It's quite the departure from their new-wave debut and their doo-wop followup. So then again, it's natural progression. Check out the video for the track "The Other Side of Town" below and pick up the new record here .

Despite the end of the year fast approaching, thankfully the quality of new music shows no signs of slowing. New London Fire's third album The Dirt The Blood The Faith is inspired by the pride we can find in despair. With the deck stacked hopelessly against the labourers who built his country, Dave Debiak's richly-crafted characters rise up time and again to challenge a system that will take everything for the sake of profit. The result is that The Dirt The Blood The Faith is a sumptuous folk-western in which New London Fire turns the corner on its new wave roots and effortlessly blends classic songwriting with distinctly modern execution. It [...]
I have no debt. It feels like a dirty secret I have, being a college graduate in these times. While my friends are still paying off student loans (and probably will for years) or looking for a job that fits the major printed oh so elegantly on the diploma they paid for, I have none [...]

We have some new New London Fire shit in our hands right now! The band just finished recording their new record over the last 2 years, tentatively titled Happiness Through Radios and Wires , and below is a borderline-creepy preview video for the track "Waterpark" created by the artist Catherine Min. The band also put up another new song "Olivia" on their MySpace page . It's a huge step away from their debut, but a sound welcomed with open arms here at A&SB.

Sleep Station - shown here touring America's shadier venues since the late 1800's If you're like me, you probably have the radio on all day tallying versions of Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree (There's 3,212). But quite frankly, after 2 months of 24/7 listening in the car, on the bus, in my sleep and during sex, it's all starting to sound the same. That's when I got to thinking, wouldn't it be cool if some sweet indie artists we listen to made up their own Christmas music? Then I was like, "Shit! [...]

>> We don't think we've seen this anywhere except random message board posts: Meneguar 's forthcoming set Strangers In Our House will be issued in Europe in August on vinyl via Sweden's Release The Bats label. The Release The Bats issue will be a limited (to what quantity, we don't know) tour pressing with 11 tracks, and it will have different artwork than the U.S. version of the LP. Watch this space for possible samples. The U.S. version will be issued by Troubleman Unlimited. Troubleman doesn't have any details of the record posted at [...]
Do you ever have someone in your life that you just can't seem to get off your mind? Someone you want to impress? Someone you love (or maybe even just like)? Someone who intrigues you? I'm in that phase right now where I just want to be noticed by certain people around me. I want them to see me for what I can do. I want to do everything I can to make myself look good in their eyes. I want them to like me. But the problem is this: In trying to make myself impressive, [...]

Six, or seven, weeks to go until the music starts at SXSW (March 14th), I won't be there, but I guarantee you that the buzz that'll build in the indie music community will be like a pot of strong coffee to me. Last year SXSW had a massive amount of music and the same will be true this year. You may already know that the festival for the past couple of years has hosted hundreds and hundreds of mp3s of bands that were showcaseds at Austin, although this year's showcase mp3s aren't online yet, last years are still [...]

So I'm jumping on the boat with a "best of 2006" list since everyone else is doing it. And yes, I would indeed jump off a bridge if the peer pressure was strong enough. I have no backbone. Anyway, this is the best list I could come up with for album releases this year. This was tricky because I'm usually behind the times when it comes to newly-released music. I tend to pick up on good music well after when it gets released. My true "Best of 2006" list would mostly be filled with tracks released from 2005. [...]
