Amazon Yesterday was a pretty busy one as far as festival announcements went - the first acts for this year's Pitchfork Festival , happening July 13 to 15 in Chicago's Union Park, were revealed; Sled Island made a pretty compelling argument for visiting Calgary from June 20 to 23; and though an official announcement is still a little ways off, the fact that Florence & The Machine , The Walkmen , tUnE-yArDs , Black Keys and The Shins will all be passing through during the August long weekend [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Handout, Getty Images Canada Day long weekend is a time for Canucks to kick back and enjoy the finer things in the Great White North. So after sipping on Molson beer, boasting about free health care and playing some street hockey, talk often turns to Canada's musical pride and joy, the Tragically Hip . And this year, folks can do more than fawn over the longtime rockers, [...]

Here's so good ol' experimental pop for y'all. If you enjoy the likes of Architecture in Helsinki or The New Pornographers , you are more than likely going to swoon at the sound of Montage Populaire . You can tell they've already found their niche in the music universe. What they've created with "Reject Reinstall", from the band's upcoming debut EP, Not All Bombs Explode (set to be released on March 19th), sounds immediately natural. It's playful, it's energetic and it'd be a shame if you didn't give it a listen. [...]

I fixed my tail light. It was a simple matter of checking the fuses, noting that the 8A fuse was blown, and swapping it out. Still having issues with the front indicator and running light, but thanks to the good folk at BMW 2002 FAQ, I should have it figured out in the near future. On to the show. Tonight's show was all about current favorites. I played a few tracks discovered within the last week, and several that have been in heavy rotation on my personal playlist of late. [...]
The New Pornographer contributes to the Old Ideas With New Friends series.
Lately, in the wake of the master's triumphantly bedraggled new album Old Ideas , lots of people have been covering Leonard Cohen: Cass McCombs, Field Music , Bill Callahan , Bradford Cox , Greg Dulli . And now we can add New Pornographers frontman A.C. Newman to that list, as he recently sat down to do a live-in-studio version of Cohen's classic " Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye ." Watch it below. Read More...

MP3 : Sing Me Spanish Techno Diehard just released a 4-song covers EP, Old Habits , for free on their Bandcamp page. Fans who pledged at a high level of their Kickstarter campaign were able to request the songs chosen to be covered and now they've been collected for all the world to download . I like Destroyer. The Canadian producer/band (I'm not sure even he knows quite what the make-up of the project is as it changes members so much) makes slightly spacy, intelligent and really good music. Last year he released Kaputt , which was great. As I liked it so much I'm going to share a couple of my favourite tracks from it in the hope that you'll like them enough to go out and buy it and listen to it lots. He's also a key member of The New Pornographers, so if you like this you'll like them, and vice [...]
The War on Drugs: Slave Ambient (2) Spoon: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Nicolas Jaar: Space is Only Noise Jason Urick: Husbands Unknown Mortal Orchestra: s/t The New Pornographers: Electric Version It feels strange whenever I listen to one of the New Pornographers' first three albums from beginning to end. I bought all three albums more or less at the same time a few years back, and I've played them on shuffle ever since. Listening to Electric Version sometimes feels weirdly exhausting, [...]

We'll continue today with our top 25 countdown with albums #15 through #11. #15: Destroyer - Kaputt Dan Bejar is somewhat off-putting at times. The super-literate and carving intellectual drive of his work with Destroyer and The New Pornographers , mixed with his Gordon Gano-like vocal renditions were a constant confinement [...]
Sophomore albums are a tricky thing. For the most part I have found them very interesting to discover, especially when they are from a familiar band I have lost track of for a few years. During my senior year of high school, my best friend Danny was raving about this Canadian alternative/ indie rock band that he absolutely loved. When he played me the band I was intrigued and wanted to hear more, which he gladly obliged. That band was Rah Rah . Fast forward to 2008 when they released their debut album Going Steady , [...]
New Pornographer Kathryn Calder has a new single and video for "Who Are You?" that I struggle to find issue with. Her album Bright and Vivid was released Oct. 25th, 2011 on File Under: Music ,

BAM! Bet you were expecting a Best of 2011 list, yeah? Well I don't got time for that (YET)! No...this is where I acknowledge all the great stuff I missed in 2010. 'Cause it doesn't get any more rock n roll than to talk about shit that's over a year old. Write that down in your How to Be Rock N Roll notebooks. Anyway, the last time I wrote this list , I spent quite a while talking about how there isn't enough time in one year to listen to all the potentially great releases and put [...]

The Dodos is easily one of the best shows that I've been to this year. With just a duo on stage they were able to get the crowd energized and moving better than most bands could with a full line up. It's this energy that they were able to put into their impactful release No Color that will surely find its way onto many top ten lists this next month. To help remind everyone just as they're starting to compile their end of year lists, The Dodos took the stage of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon [...]
