Following up on their 2007's S/T release (recorded by famed Steve Albini), The Love Story return for 2009 with Mink . TLS, in my opinion, are somewhat hard to nail down. Mainly classified as slow-core/mood-core, the NYC band throws in touches of Shoegaze to further complement their music. While Albini is no longer at the helm for Mink , the band has not lost his influence to their song-craft. The whole LP plays in thirty minutes and is full of mesmerizing guitar parts, sparse but effective drumming, all complemented by singer Molly Donahue's lush vocals. The [...]

Howdy all! It's been a crazy week, but we survived...did you? Anyway, we have some major plans ahead for Loud Loop Press so stay tuned! We'll be ramping up our efforts in the next fews weeks to become your number one resource for all things Chicago music. But before we kick off Weekend Diversions this week, here's our writer Andy Kondrat giving his review of Wednesday night's Billy Talent show at the Metro. Take it away, Andy! Openers AM Taxi were harmless. To enjoy headliners Billy Talent, you had to be either [...]

I've finally come to accept the inevitable tardiness of my yearly list of musical faves, and really, it's only tardy when compared to everyone else's list. Y'see, I listen to way too much music in the waning months of the year, using extra-long workdays and holiday travels to catch up on discs I haven't spent enough time with. A couple of the albums below didn't even hit my ears until last

So, I namechecked a Pioneer Valley 90's indie rock band the other day, thinking I should do a follow up post. You know what? There is surprisingly little info about Skinner Pilot on ye ole internets. I do know that Skinner Pilot featured Elizabeth Sharp and that she is now Ill Ease . Plus, she was an original member of New Radiant Storm King , and she helped name that band after a brand of radiator. Anyway, I friggin' love this track, and you will too. Without any further ado, Skinner Pilot [...]

Every week that I compile the Graboid, i'm always realizing how little we even touch on a lot of new music that continues to be released. But it's definitely nice to have everything together here in one post. That being said, I think my jaw dropped to the ground when I saw the insane amount of releases out this week. Seriously, you couldn't ask for more, and frankly, I don't even know where to begin. Just simply skimming over the list and you'll notice many recognizable names like Crooked Fingers , Antony & [...]
![Review: Get Help | The End Of The New Country [MP3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1244677_lg.jpg)
The release (well, pending release) of New York duo Get Help 's solid debut is as good an occasion as any to give thanks for the stalwart musicians out there who make dependable indie rock. Not dancepunk, not nu-rave, not electroclash, not... well, you get the picture. There are now countless bands, and many of them chase countless, cycling trends. Thankfully there are still plenty of acts making great music without aping the latest tight-legged or baggy-arsed hype-riders. Like The New Year . Like Thalia Zedek . And like Get Help . The web [...]
If you've been reading this site long enough, you're likely aware of my firm belief that New Radiant Storm King released one of the finest albums of 2006 in "The Steady Hand". That thoughtfully energetic collection of dual-guitar rock songs kept the best aspects of what made this born-in-89 quartet so good throughout the 90s, while at the same time showing enough growth to not sound like a

"HOW DARE YOU EMBARRASS ME IN FRONT OF WFMU! There's people judging me right now! They're laughing! Jerry has his old-fashioned radio program with the old records, he had the phones lit up! It was like a Christmas tree! I'm playing new records!" -- Tom on the humiliating, crash-and-burn start to the program "Tom's show is pretty good." -- Jerry in West Orange, curbing his enthusiasm for the night's first pledge "I did some time in Lompoc . I don't wanna talk about it." [...]
Not just one artist today, but ten of them... and they just so happen to be responsible for some of the best releases of the past year. You only need to click and enjoy each song. The entire purpose for this blog and the the MySpace group is to highlight music we love and that deserves to be heard. During the past year we've featured almost 300 musical acts from 27 different countries. All of

Play it: Homestead Records No, Homestead Records hasn't miraculously reappeared and digitally released it's catalogue, that will probably never happen. But enough of their catalogue has made it into reissues ( Dinosaur , Sebadoh , Sonic Youth , Nick Cave ) and greatest hits/compilations ( Daniel Johnston , Great Plains , New Radiant Storm King ) that a playlist/look-back is now deserving. The label was instrumental in help launching the noise rock genre, and at the [...]

Ok, everyone seems to be on a list for best-ofs during the first half of 2006. I did a blogger guest post awhile back listing their favorite track of the first half and you can still check that here (tracks are still up but not for long). This is my list of the 10 I liked best for the first half of 2006 and just three words describing why I like each one. 1. Arab Strap - The Last Romance [...]
