Words by Rick Moslen So this is the series where I ramble on about classic indie/punk record labels fated to feed every music junkie’s obsessive fix. This time I’m gushing about possibly the mother of them all. Hold onto your butts and stuff some earplugs up those earlobes, cause it’s time for some raw, spazzing rock n’roll from Touch and Go Records. I know what you’re thinking ... how can I rope Touch and Go ’s extensive yet essential history into a mere blog post? That’s like leaving your [...]
Speaking of breaking festival news, there's some big news today out of Highland Entertainment's camp today: The people who are bringing the ballinous two-night, EDM-heavy New Yea'rs Eve Lights A... photos by Dana (distortion) Yavin , words by BBG Weeze & Matt & Kim @ Deluna Fest Do you think Matt & Kim ever get depressed? Like down-in-the-dumps, face-on-the-bathroom-tile, razor-to-the-wrist bummed? And do you think any of that anger is channeled into their music in ways not visibly noticed? Is that perma-simpleton-smile actually a front for an aryan-supremacy agenda spelled out in morse code via [...]

John Cale is one of those slow-grow pleasures. At first seemingly inaccessible, and at times overly droll, once you've gotten hooked, he is an undeniable addiction. Cale has been steadily delivering albums for the past 40 years; There have been duds and there have been winners, but one thing is for sure: it's always interesting. That interest is exactly the reason that we were so stoked to discover that Cale has a new EP on tap for the day after Thanksgiving, entitled Extra Playful (cover above). [...]
A lot of times when I run I listen to full albums. I try to choose albums I know well so I can sing along in my head and pay less attention to the fact that I'm (usually) bored shirtless. I rarely compile elaborate mixes of songs intended to spur speed bursts or keep a [...]
For the month of December, New York City will become the EDM haven of the world. First Swedish House Mafia on December 16th. Then Avicii on New Year's Eve. Now Deadmau5 on New Year's Eve as well. Lord Have Mercy. Check out the video promo/live video bellow. Dayum.

New Yorkers and TV viewers the world over will have the smooth vocals of Justin Bieber to ring in the new year with, as the Canadian singer is set to perform on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2012 . Bieber, who's just-released "Mistletoe" single is currently #1 on iTunes, will join a roster that currently includes "Marry The Night" pop queen Lady Gaga. Alright, Beliebers and Monsters — which of the two performers will you be popping the party favors for more on December 31st?

by world's biggest Phish fan BBG Phish at MSG ( more by Ryan Barkan ) I can think of literally thousands (millions?) of things that I'd rather do around New Year's Eve than go to a Phish show. Get kicked in the teeth by a burro. Fall down some stairs. Murdered. But obviously some people (and there are a lot of people) still care deeply for the Vermont jam band that spawned acres (or is it ache-rs?) [...]
HT faves Phish will return to Madison Square Garden for a four-night New Year's Run in New York City on December 28-31. This marks the jamband's sixth New Year's Eve show at the newly renovated venue and 20th - 23rd Phish shows ever at the storied arena. The presale for tickets is currently underway at the Phish Ticketing site . The request period goes until October 24 at 11:59AM ET. In one of HT featured columnist Brian Bavosa's first articles for Postcards For [...]
Is 2011 really almost over? It seems a little early for bands to be planning tours for 2012, right? Maybe not. Though Strfkr have filled up the rest of this year with shows in Europe, they'll be returning stateside after the new year. The band's routing doesn't bring them around to New York City (yet), but we expect they'll be back here before long. Strfkr tour dates: Nov 18, 2011 - Club Control - Bucharest, Romania Nov 19, 2011 - Postbahnhof - Berlin, Germany Nov 20, 2011 [...]

The rumors are true. For months I'd been hearing from sources of varying quality that Guided by Voices had either planned to record a new album or were already knee deep in the process of recording. Those rumors hit a fever pitch during the Pitchfork Music Festival this past July when people who'd just attended GBV's yearly fan festival in Dayton, Ohio reported it as truth, there will be a new Guided by Voices album. Today comes word that the classic era Guided by Voices lineup of Robert Pollard, Tobin Sprout, Mitch Mitchell, Greg Demos and [...]

The biggest party night of the year isn’t too far off. I imagine there are millions of you out there (I’m in that gaggle) still scratching your head trying to decide what to do when the clock strikes midnight. So, where are you going to go, how exactly are you going to get down and more importantly whom will you be spending your time with? If those questions give you pause… consider this: You, your friends…and Avicii in New York City. Sounds like a party to us. If you're with us, mark your calendars. On the [...]

Irish producer Suburban Dream (who you might remember thanks to his excellent Kid Loco remix posted a wee while ago ) is back with some new freshness, dropping a lovely new tune last week by the name of 'New Year's Day'. As we've come to expect from Mr Dream (also known as Ciaran McCarthy), ' New Year's Day' is a subtle mix of downbeat goodness, combining a nodding hip hop beat and layers of keyboard lushness. The result is a warm, emotive track [...]

Over ten years after Fantomas released their Director's Cut album featuring covers of film and television themes, they release a DVD and mp3 album (available separately) of a live version recorded (it doesn't specify, but I think it was) New Year's Eve 2008/'09. I'll start with the album: It's OK. Not too different from the original. Maybe some parts are extended. I'd probably only recommend it for completists. It does also have an encore of Simply Beautiful . The other difference is that the drums are played by Dale Crover and not Dave Lombardo. But [...]

Lady Gaga - Getty Images Get ready to go gaga for 2012. Lady Gaga will say goodbye to 2011 and ring in the new year with a performance in Times Square for Dick Clark 's New Year's Rockin' Eve , confirmed the show's host, Ryan Seacrest . Gaga is the first to be announced from the line-up of acts who will perform in New York City and Los Angles for the show's landmark 40th anniversary, airing live on ABC. Black Eyed Peas frontwoman [...]

Prepare to say goodbye to 2011 with your paws up. It was announced today that Lady Gaga will perform in front of millions of people in Times Square just before the ball drops on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2012 . As if Times Square wasn't crowded enough during New Year's Eve, just wait til all of Gaga's little monsters show up. Anyway, think she'll kiss Jo Calderone at midnight?
