Music surrounds us, all day every day, and with the amount of music being released, it's easy to miss great tracks. We've put together a selection of songs that have been in the audiosphere for a few years now, but seemingly haven't garnered the attention that they deserved. So whether or not you've already heard these songs or overlooked them, they are well worth the listen. By Desiree Autobee *Tracks and year(s) released are as follows. Best Youth - Honey Trap (2011) [...]
I've been thinking about 2013 a lot recently. I guess it makes sense because it's almost the new year. I thought I would share some thoughts, a recent favorite, and a prediction. I'll start with the prediction: I think 2013 will be the Year of the LA Bands. Lord Huron, HAIM, and Local Natives are all poised for big years. LA's prominence in indie music and music at-large has faded a little (at least that's my opinion; bands don't feel the need to move there as much to make it). It's the headquarters of the old guard of [...]

photos by Jessica Amaya DOWNLOAD: Lemonade - "Softkiss" (MP3) Caveman at Brooklyn Museum 5/17/12 The second of Brooklyn Museum's Audiophile concert series happened last Thursday (May 17) with performances by Caveman and NewVillager . Check out pictures and a video of Caveman from that show at the bottom of this post. The next installment of the series, which is [...]

BULLETT MAGAZINE: The Obsessed Issue If you wished Dazed & Confused had more features and was a tad more creative, look no further. What's even better is their brilliantly inventive pictorials, interviews and artists...using each other as the subject. Think Coffee and Cigarrettes in print form, except with most of the awkwardness and mystique removed, and replaced with a feeling of "fuck this is so cool, I can't believe they got them to do that." The Great GoogaMooga is a brand new food, drink, and music celebration created by Superfly Presents (the folks behind Bonnaroo ) that's being touted as "an amusement park of food & drink". It's promising to be the first real "can't miss" event of the summer so make it out to Prospect Park this weekend, stuff your face with delicious food, and catch some pretty spectacular bands [...]

We're back in action this week with a show of our very own. Together with BirdDog Promo, we've put 8 bands we're crazy about on one bill for a night of wildness at Public Assembly. Headliner Tiny Victories will be celebrating the release of their EP, Those Of Us Still Alive , and will be supported by NewVillager , Dinowalrus , and North Highlands (among others). Of course, that's not the only great show going on this week here in New York City. Make sure to check out The [...]
Welcome to another Monday Threesome! Each of the bands this week falls within the realm of electro/snyth pop, focusing on keyboards, falsettos and rhythms. They play a dance hybrid of indie rock and electronic music, but within that somewhat narrow subgenre, each is able to bring something unique to their sound and leave their mark. One is a veteran, and the others are some new bands we are very excited about. Sleepyhead - Passion Pit // Buy Known for their very passionate falsetto vocals, [...]

photos and review by Ben Mobley Always on the prowl for new music, I download my regular (and favorite) monthly indie-rock sampler. Within the collection of some 120 tracks, there was this one song, with its mantra-like speak-singing, ethereal piano lines, and a slightly Bartok-ian riff. I was immediately struck by the overall sound and rhythms of "Black Rain" by NewVillager , a band I would further come to know in the most random of ways. January 2012. There I was, standing on the sidewalk, having [...]

(photo by cubagallery ) These are 50 tracks that defined 2011 for us, presented in highly unscientific ordered list form, with Matt's songs marked with a "-MG" and my choices with a "-TJ" next to them. To better spread the love, there's only one song per artist. Click the links next to the track to download / listen to the song and go to our Spotify Playlist to hear them all. Enjoy y'all! 50. Austra - Beat and the Pulse MP3 [...]
AllSaints caught up with myth-pop trio NewVillager in downtown LA to shoot an exclusive 3-track rooftop session. The band played LightHouse , Cocoon House and Black Rain , all taken from their self-titled debut out now on IAMSOUND.
The list's mid-point. There's plenty of great material here, from rookie breakthroughs NewVillager to arena-ready acts like The Black Keys and Fleet Foxes. Take a look
Of all the year end posts that I put together on this blog, I always have the most fun putting together this one. Here's a list of a whole whack of videos I think you should see from this year. I wasn't able to put them all in order of favorite to least, but I was able to make my top four. 1. "True Loves" by Hooray For Earth . This video makes me think of Planet of the Apes meets Inception. Beautiful and interesting locations, great special effects and a perfect fit to the song. [...]
2011 was (another) odd year for music. It felt like the average quality of albums was raised a bit, but nothing really stood out as a life-changing album or single of the year. Still, there was a lot of great music to be heard. Here's fifty of my favorite tracks from the year, ranging from [...]

I wasn’t really aware of the appeal of Metronomy . The band has put out some slightly impressive albums over the years and while I haven’t picked up this year’s The English Riviera , the general consensus leans to the positive. But paint me surprised that the band was able to sell out the Rickshaw Stop for two nights fairly quickly. Even if the Rickshaw is one of the smaller venues, it makes me wonder if they could’ve done the same at The Independent. NewVillager [...]
NewVillager, from what I've read around the web, is an artist collective that is not just about the music but also the accompanying visuals, whether it be at their live shows or in their videos. Ben Bromley and Ross Simonini, the men behind NewVillager, are so dedicated that for their album "they recorded 10 versions [...]
After a series of free shows earlier this year, the Clift Hotel 's Clift Sessions are back, with three free shows on the horizon. First up is NewVillager this Friday, October 21st, with The Strange Boys celebrating the release of their new album, Live Music , on Saturday, October 29th. Little Boots rounds out the announced dates, performing on Tuesday, November 22nd. You can RSVP for all three shows [...]
