There is an element of facing a firing squad in this new track by Nice Face. You tie a bandana around your eyes and light a cigarette and press your back against the cinder block wall warmed by the sun. You close your eyes and take a deep breath, the roar of a sonic machine [...]

We've already shared one taste but the sum is greater than its parts because Horizon Fires , the new album from Nice Face, is another salt coated laceration of the soul. Just as fierce as his Sacred Bones debut, the new album is all chewed glass and sinew, acrid as hell and leaving no room for mercy. Still full of the chaotic clatter of drums, strangled guitar fits and keyboards that seem abused to the point of submission; we'd be lying if we said this wasn't one of our most anticipated of the year and it lives up to [...]

Nice Face From: The US With a distorted atmosphere murkier than a tramps hanky and a groove more addictive than a cocaine dusted big mac Shaman , the latest single from art punks Nice Face , is an outside bet for a place in the Devil's favourite tracks of the year. Go Try NICE FACE- Shaman by HOZAC RECORDS [...]

I Want Your Damage Hard Time I'm not the biggest fan of all the year-end mumbo jumbo lists, but it seems obligatory to participate because it is all about sharing after all. However, it doesn't go without its benefits. There's always something that I'll see on someone's list that I hadn't heard of or just flat out didn't get around to listening to. Case in point...Nice Face's Immer Etwas from Sacred Bones Records was listed on one of the [...]
Check it out! Andrew Earles linked my Top-10 post! Man, I tell you my life couldn't get any more surreal right now, but at least things continue to stay interesting. The biggest news I have for the day is that Andrew Earles link my last blog post on his site. In case you forgot, Earles [...]

Initially I was a little hesitant about Nice Face . I don't normally buy records that have giant penises on them. Think what you want, but I don't normally buy records with giant vagina's on them either. Being an American, I've got nudity hang-ups. So, it's lucky for me that the Nice Face record that just came out on Sacred Bones has a cover with what looks like a small child ready to be strangled by a cat headed snake. You have it right, we Americans love demented violence, but freak out at the sight of [...]

Don't say you didn't hear it here first. Back in September of 2008, we caught wind of one-man band/whirling dervish Ian Magee, a.k.a. Nice Face . With a handful of home-recorded singles turned cassette-only release turned free digital download that evolved into Can I Fuck It?, the Brooklyn-based mad scientist won our hearts with songs about Jenkem and his ragged, overloaded lo-fi pop. Now, Nice Face is back. Immer Etwas is 13 tracks (19 if you get the CD) of watery echoes, lo-fi electronics and tweaked-out garage. Can you [...]

Jerking Off With Jesus Any band backed by Sacred Bones Records deserves immediate attention and Nice Face is the latest from the label's talented gene pool to capture my imagination. In the past the label has introduced me to Crocodiles , Moon Duo and Grass Widow . Nice Face is the project of Ian Magee, a New York apartment dweller who discovered that you don't need a garage to make garage rock; a shoebox apartment will do. In [...]

The only time we have come across the the phrase 'Nice Face' in the world of music, it was the 70s Monks anti-classic, punk parody Nice Legs Shame About Her Face . Reached no. 19 in 1979! That's the UK Monks of course, not the classic US garage rock pioneers. Thankfully our introduction to lo-fi, garage punk rock band Nice Face has finally changed that. The album Immer Etwas has thirteen tracks of convulsing drum-machine rhythms, pummelling [...]
I'm so exhausted at this very moment I'm struggling to keep my eyes open, let alone type anything coherent. Thus the sort of spiraling mixed-messages of Nice Face almost seem a salve. There's a hint of garage or experimental noise lurking in the corners of this song, all leathered up and in need of a [...]

RSTB singles fave Nice Face finally delivers a full length LP and it far exceeds our expectations for this fuzz laden one man project. Building off the sinister distortion and driving force of his 7"s on HoZac and Sacred Bones, the project has proven that there's still more life in redlined lo-fi and Nice Face is leading that lifeline. From slow crawl motorik beat laden creepers to explosive fuzz punk, Nice Face has covered a lot of ground on Immer Etwas and that's exactly what keeps it from getting ground down too far into the sound rut that [...]

While looking at each other through binoculars in my bedroom, I told Mike that Year-End Lists are sort of fun until you've read a few. After that, the nostalgia becomes overwhelming, like finding the old trunk that contains all of your old comic books and junior high love letters. It makes me wonder if bloggers call each other on the phone the night before they post their lists; like 6th grade girls, they coordinate Top-Albums instead of outfits. This is kind of like how Mike accidentally left my copy of Under the Banner of Heaven [...]

The Singles Collection is contributor Jason Jackowiak's weekly column focusing on rare and essential 7″ releases. We gladly accept all types of 7″ for consideration. Ok, after a few snags and some schedule wrangling, we're finally ready with our latest all- Sacred Bones edition of the Singles Collection. We've made no secret of the fact that we love this label, and true to their ever-stellar form, their latest batch of singles are all absolute must-owns, both from sonic and aesthetic points of view. Since you've undoubtedly [...]

Another droplet of goodness from the Sacred Bones camp.. This time in the form of an old RSTB friend, Nice Face. Nice Face - Mnemonic Device 7" Still keeping things crunchy while balancing his hardest edged song to date with one of the calmest (relatively). The A-side amps up the keys and keeps things dark and dank. On the flip its Nice Face stepping up to the classic punk plate, just a little more [...]

Golden Triangle - "Night Brigade" Golden Triangle, whose Southern roots and reckless performance abandon have landed them supporting slots for current notables such as Deerhunter, Black Lips, King Khan, and Jay Reatard, now call my burrough home. Their vinyl EP's second side peak is "Night Brigade," a sweetly pummeling gang-shouting exhibition. There's a mumbly fellow loitering at the front of the mix, murmuring unintelligibly as the guitars and rhythm race ahead. His vocal shrugging is wildly eclipsed by female backing chants, trilling and whooping in a timeless post-punk fashion. The instrumental din quiets [...]
