Barry Adamson, formerly of Magazine, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and Visage, has been consistently producing moody, sometimes sleazy and generally engaging solo recordings since the late 1980s. This year Adamson celebrated Valentine's Day by releasing "I Will Set You Free," a 10-song set on his Central Control International label. The album opens strong with the one-two punch of the rhythm-heavy throbbing bassline of "Get Your Mind Right," and the almost-anthemic "Black Holes in My Brain" (I can't recall a song title being repeated this many times since Bruce Springsteen's "Born in [...]

Regardless how history comes to look Nick Cave's <ithe Death of Bunny Munro , in the context of Cave's career, it stands alone as the purest distillation of his artistry -- a poetic novel with Cave's inimitable brand of the grotesque, absurd and often comic nature of humanity. With the publication of The Death of Bunny Munro in the spring of 2009, Australian songwriter, author, and modern-day renaissance man Nick Cave unleashed on his public perhaps one of the most deviant, despicable protagonists in the entirety of modern literature. Bunny Munro -- drug abusing, chain-smoking, sex-obsessed lothario whose spree [...]

As founding member of the '80s LA punk group The Gun Club, Jeffrey Lee Pierce helped inspired the likes of Jack White, Henry Rollins, No Age, and countless others. In 1996, Pierce died from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 37, and has since been honored with an all-star covers compilation, entitled The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project . Volume one in the series, We Are Only Riders , was released in 2009. As TwentyFourBit points out, volume two, The Journey Is Long , will arrive March 30th via Glitterhouse Records. Spanning some 18 tracks, this latest compilation [...]

Woody Guthrie wasn't the only prolific songwriter to leave behind a treasure trove of half-written material and a host of notable artists inspired to honor his legacy by completing the work: Jeffrey Lee Pierce, founding member of influential Los Angeles punk group the Gun Club, is set to have two more volumes of works-in-progress posthumously finished by the likes of Nick Cave, Mark Lanegan, Debbie Harry, Lydia Lunch, Mick Harvey, Warren Ellis, Isabel Campbell, and more. Following 20092s unveiling of the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions , titled We Are Only Riders , Glitterhouse Records [...]

It's a New Year and time for some new bands. First on my list is Saturday Sun, the first signing to the brand new Lazy Butterfly Records. A duo from the south west peninsular Purbeck, Saturday Sun have created some stunning music for the past two years helped by Alex Hedley's brilliant and powerful vocals and the melodies put with them by Bill Merrick's guitar. Wikipedia I was having a little trouble coming up with something to say about this week's selection by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and taken from the 1991 Leonard Cohen tribute album I'm Your Fan , but happily a little plumbing around the tubes of the internet turned up this little piece at chromehorse (chrome solidarity!) that corroborates the bit at Wikipedia on the song. Which is basically that Cave and company got wrecked before recording a marathon-length jam on "Tower Of Song" [...]

While Nick Cave and Warren Ellis recently disbanded Grinderman in favor of a new Bad Seeds album, the pair has also added a new project to their increasingly long catalog of film scores. With Cave already attached to a 3D adaptation of Pinocchio , TwentyFourBit now reports that both he and Ellis have provided music for West of Memphis , a new documentary about the West Memphis Three. Directed and written by Amy Berg, and co-produced and co-written by Peter Jackson ( The Lord of the [...]

all photos by debi del grande When you work with bands like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Depeche Mode, you get a little recognition. KCRW knew this and booked Barry Adamson at the Hotel Cafe. Touring on his new album I Will Set You Free , this British rocker stood alone on the tiny stage belting out tunes in one of the smoothest voices I've heard in awhile. The set was too short—hopefully, he'll be back. —Debi Del Grande [...]
Let's say I didn't spend the past year collecting all of the 123 singles released following Grinderman's 2010 album, Grinderman 2, I'd be all over this upcoming remix collection on Anti- Records featuring collaborations and reinterpretations featuring Robert Fripp, Josh Homme, A Place to Bury Strangers, Cat's Eyes and Factory Floor. Hell, I'll still be all over Grinderman 2 RMX on the strength of the previously unreleased version of "Bellringer Blues," featured above, and wonderfully twisted, tortured, and hacked to shit by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Yeah, it's that good. [...]

A balada "Down in the Willow Garden", também conhecida por "Rose Connelly", foi gravada por muito boa gente. Já conhecíamos a versão de Kristin Hersh, que abre a sua coleção de canções de faca e alguidar apalachianas, o álbum "Murder, Misery and then Goodnight", de 1998: Diz-se que a balada inspirou Nick Cave a escrever "Where the Wild Roses Grow", que para lado B daquele single usou uma
