We spoke with CLUBFEET at the tail-end of last year just after the fellas released the double A-side singles ‘ City of Light/This Time’ , and now with the new album just about to be released (18 January to be exact) we sat down with the guys again to discuss the album, touring and their audience. Your new album Heirs & Graces is out this Friday. How would you say the sound has changed since [...]
We were fascinated to see a new video from The Creators Project recently — it explores the work of South Korean artist Viktor Jan , and specifically a home-made Traktor controller he's made that starts or stops various loops as you put them in and take them out of a kitchen saucepan. The device blurs the line between art and utility, but it does call to mind all the weird and wonderful ways you can make music if you step outside the idea of using the same prefabricated instruments that everyone else does. Here are some other [...]

The Brooklyn-based, Nevada-born 27-year-old artist Ivana Carrescia, formerly playing under the name Ivana XL , was known for her signature lo-fi sounds featuring her voice and guitar. Feeling the need to rework her sound, she chose Eddi Front as a stronger, more gender ambiguous nom de plume . She's now offering up a more sombre, stripped-down aesthetic, featuring eerily aloof vocals accompanied predominantly by piano, with the occasional sparse snare or jazz-drenched ambiance of the occasional horn. Making recordings of herself playing music and singing since she was a child, [...]

Photo: Cat Stevens Sometimes things collide and it's great. Sometimes, like when a skier and a tree collide, it's horrible. Luckily, the combination of Nick Cave and Pulp is the former and not the latter. Back in 2002, Pulp released their last single before going away. It was called Bad Cover Version (and had one of the best music videos you will ever see). Because it was still 2002, and things like singles still mattered, the single was accompanied by b-sides. Given the theme of the song, it was very [...]
This week sees the release of the new solo album from Christopher Owens, formerly of Girls and now of lovelorn solo balladeering endeavors. The album's called Lysandre and is particularly notable for being based around a narrative thread about Owens' love affair with the girl of the same name. The story behind the record is an interesting one, and it got us thinking about the real-life stories behind some of our other favorite love songs, and we've related a selection of the best of them after the jump. Let us know if you have any to share. [...]

With "Jubilee Street," we're now two tracks into the new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds record and it's becoming even more clear that Push the Sky Away will be a clean break from the nasty and rowdy Nick Cave of Grinderman . Like first single, "We No Who U R," "Jubilee Street," is a calm and meditative number, skillfully orchestrated and exquisitely narrated by a man whose voice has the ability to twist a seemingly innocuous stroll into a tale of regret and deceit. The man does have a way with words, especially when his subject roams the [...]

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds today released another song from Push the Sky Away, which is out digitally on February 18.

When she was in Australia back in the fall, Sharon Van Etten visited Triple-J Radio to record a cover of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds' pensive ballad "People Ain't No Good" for their Like a Version series. The song comes from the 1997 album The Boatman's Call, and in her chat with the DJs, ... Continue reading
