After playing Austin's SXSW festival, Eternal Tapestry and Cameron Stallones (aka Sun Araw ) met up for a live set on Austin's KVRX 91.7fm. Now, with Thrill Jockey 's help, here we have Night Gallery . First thing to know, Stallones is jamming keys. Second, the album sounds just like you'd imagine if you simply put the two in a room together. No sonic revelations here. That said, these guys sound great together! Languid guitars and keyboard drone give way to charges of guitar riffs. Eternal Tapestry does particularly well to weave familiar riffs with improvised [...]

When it comes to ambient psychedelic music, this new collaboration between Eternal Tapestry and Sun Araw , arguably two heavy-weights of the genre, is akin to the landmark jazz summits between Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane or Ben Webster and Coleman Hawkins. Putting the names together makes you take notice, but when you actually listen to the end product you're faced with a new level of excellence. Recorded during the 2010 SXSW festival, Night Gallery is an entirely improvised piece broken into four parts. While the recording holds true to the roots of [...]
Two friendly psych bands join forces on a live suite of reverb drenched psychedelic droning. Eternal Tapestry and Sun Araw, two separate yet aesthetically contiguous groups committed to exploring the depths of reverb ensconced psychedelic drone, have joined forces to bring you Night Gallery, a minimally edited live performance given for a radio session last year in Austin during SXSW. The beauty of this album is its unhurried and unassuming dedication to performance. Both of these bands translate well from record to venue, as they rely on room sound and...

Photo by Mauricio Lima [ Night Gallery ] ( buy vinyl ) Dijkhuis's Dijkhuis #1 is the debut release on the newly-minted Night Gallery label founded by Little White Earbuds writer Kuri Kondrak and Shawn Kralicek. Although the identity of Dijkhuis is unknown except for the clues provided in the attendant press release which claims it's an established producer operating incognito, what's clear is that he or she is comfortable working with a variety of styles. It was as if, glimpsed from the right angle, all of the attempts at categorisation had but cascaded into one. Moving the three lists back into their proper position temporarily solved this issue but the great list-master remained disturbed. For what could this mean, he thought. What were the semantic implications of this perilous discovery? Were the three lists secretly as one? What would the creators of the lists think of this? A year's work, carefully separating and categorising reduced, by a tilt of the head, to a universal soup. ////////////////////////////// //////////// Darkstar - North. In the [...]

Night Gallery is Adam Griffin and Aaron 'Gatekeeper' David who together quietly released the album we'd hoped Silver Columns were going to, back in August. But it was late last year that their unnervingly catchy synth-pop track Mary Bell toured the blog circuit just prior to the Cold Wave tsunami breaking over internet-land. Mary Bell [...]

SynthPop duo Night Gallery are about to release their début album 'Constant Struggle'. Made up of Golden Birthday's Adam Griffiths and Aaron David Ross from ace Electronica act GATEKEEPER, who brings some of GATEKEEPERS moodiness to the tracks, this Chicago based outfit It's a really 80's affair. Without nods to current retro fads, Night Gallery create quite an authentic retro Pop sound which dispute the minor chords and brooding sounds manages to be quite uplifting (in the same way that martin Gore's songs seem to be). Their press release compares them to Clan Of Xymox, which [...]

Nite Gallery = Wild Palms (photo by lil' bro bro thelonleyindian ) Honestly, Chicago duo Night Gallery has taken some time to grow on me. But after the lovely new record label Rainbow Body Records sent me over their forthcoming LP "Constant Struggle" I gave it a good week and can say it's pretty awesome. Fully equipped with transport to the 80's, but where amazing artists like Com Truise or Cosmic Sound bring the hard hitting synthed out electronics of [...]

New music from "Jaydiohead"-creator Max Tannone, Night Gallery (Chicago), iamf (Novosibirsk, Russia) & a mashup blending the Rolling Stones & AC/DC.
Chicago's Night Gallery was sent to me via Rainbow Body Records and I think it's pretty dope. It's very synth-drenched, seduce you on the dancefloor kind of stuff. I'll be living vicariously through these sounds as I spend the rest of eternity (see: Friday night) writing until I go cross-eyed. This album is aptly named 'Constant Struggle' by the way. Wouldn't you know.. Night Gallery - Sex Curse by Rainbow Body Records Night Gallery - Constant Struggle by [...]

While I can't see the direct link between Michael Ende's Neverending Story and exuberant, almost extravagant 80s synth pop, apparently a conversation about the former topic might lead to a very productive relationship concerning the latter, at least this is what happened when Aaron David Ross and Adam Griffin met in Chicago in the summer of 2006, leading to the formation of Night Gallery , a duo devoted to classic synth era sounds. In any case, this is what their debut album's press release is telling us - the only thing that puzzles me about this nice story is [...]

it's so easy to be taken away when listening to the curious sounds of night gallery be it the star gazing efforts of 'Sex Curse' or the lulling sincerity of 'Mary Bell. what makes it so sublime is just how gentle it is to be lost following the consonance between spoken word and slow drums, an escape... VERY Depeche Mode is the first thing I'd say about Night Gallery . And that's a compliment. Constant Struggle hits that gloomy note perfectly. The foreboding synths and dark drum machines echoing in the back. I only wish the tone of the vocals wold be lower and heavier, the way it is in their track Sex Curse . That song send chills up my spine, man. Night Gallery is the lovechild of Aaron David Ross of GATEKEEPER , (another Chi-town outfit that I'm really digging right now) and Adam Griffiths of Golden [...]

night gallery wild palms so it's 9 AM where i am, which may not be early for some people but it's incredibly early for me. thankfully, i woke to find this absolute gem of an album in my inbox. night gallery are a two piece band (made up of aaron david ross and adam griffin, double a threat) who make 80s-inspired synth-pop stunners that are reminiscent of depeche mode. and even though their music is clearly heavily inspired by nightlife, [...]
