I've had a bit more time on my hands lately and so I've been able to focus on what for many of us can be the most important thing in life: the good vibe that a song can create. For this mix I've gone back to my roots and moved away from my experiment in last month's edition of the mix series. As fun as it was to adventure into unfamiliar genres, the result wasn't as fulfilling as usual. This month I've put together some of my favourite tracks into what I think is an ode to that feel good [...]

So it's April 24th, the sun has been working hard to come out and the temperature hasn't been ideal but I think it's an ideal time to get Nightwaves fired up again. Sea, sex and sun is on the horizon and there couldn't be a more fit way to celebrate its coming than to honour some of the most exciting and prolific action stars from the 80s. A time when films didn't really have to have elaborate plot lines if they were chock full of blood, guts, machine guns, flexing biceps and nude women. These guys helped to define masculinity and style [...]

So it's the end of March but it isn't quite spring let alone summer yet so this month I thought I would do a mix which reflected this in transition vibe. Not quite winter, not quite spring or summer. There is warmth, there is cool, there is sexiness but there is also bigger sound. In addition, listening to this mix again before posting it really makes me feel like it doesn't stick to any particular genre or organizing rule. I basically found a bunch a music I really liked from all over the place and tried to throw it together [...]

In light of Valentines day and the often warm moments we share with those we love, I wanted to put up this mix I did for a new Yoga Studio that I am involved with in Toronto Canada: NYood Yoga. Nowadays many of us want heavy hitting bass, fast beats and hi's that hit us hard in our core. In my view music has been getting more and more extreme, more and more violent but most of all more and more soulless. This mix series at NYood and the Yoga studio itself is about getting back to the love. The [...]

![Velour – Speedway [Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4703066_lg.jpg)
On Christmas day, Bristol production duo Velour (a.k.a. Julio Bashmore and Hyetal ) made NASCAR cool again with the release of their video for their brand-new tune "Speedway." Videographer Matt Cronin got some intense, classic NASCAR footage to match the song's speedy, 80s synth discotec feel. This song marks the duo's re-emergence after 2 years of silence since their 2010 EP for Night Slugs, The Velvet Collection. What a Nightwave. Someone please remix this with some tight lyrics. Thank you. -LeCastell Related posts: Justice [...]

You've probably heard about London-based producer/DJ/vocalist extraordinaire Maya Medvesek. Formerly monikered 8Bitch, Medvesek now goes by Nightwave and is somewhat of a universal rising star in the UK, bumpin' uglies with LuckyMe and Unknown to the Unknown, throwing down some of the best sets this side of the Numbers crew and constantly improving her production acumen. Unknwon to the Unknwon released Medvesek's Night Heat EP last year, and in a bout of holiday spirit, released it as a free download late last week. Along with the original release's three tracks, a slow and fast mix of "Night Bird" has [...]

So I've been fighting diligently these last few weeks not to wear a winter coat but of late I just had to give in. I pulled out that damn parka and put it on.... Things just didn't feel right. Bundled up waddling around the icy cold streets with my fellow countrymen. What a depressing sight. Luckily I haven't had to spend much time outside my place seeing as all I do is go to the library and come home. Oh wait, because I am getting shit on by exams. So sitting at home last night starring blindly at my computer [...]

Peace and love to all of those who have been hit by the hurricane, our thoughts and prayers are with you. In light of this sad sad phenomenon of nature I wanted to bring back Nightwaves this week so that maybe, just maybe, these sun soaked vibes could tease the sun to come back out again. Even if they don't do so quite yet...they can at least warm our hearts and bring us back to a time when we were on the beach, to a time where we were care free.... [...]

It seems to be getting a bit too cold out so it is time to turn up the heat. Back by popular demand...... It would appear that many of us just don't want to lose track of those summer feelings. I am one of those people, so ladies and gentlemen the show must go on. [...]

Like many good things in life, nightwaves must come to an end. Summer is just about over and our balmy nights will soon turn to cold nights by the fire. The Ferrari Testarossa needs to be retired for the winter, the white linen suit needs to be dry cleaned and stored and the tanning oil needs to be forgotten. Nevertheless, the spirit of the perfect summer night can always be preserved and resurrected. That is the beauty of music. When a nightwave was playing during a perfect summer moment, that moment was captured. It fused with the song making the [...]
Electronic artist Rustie proved on his last LP, Glass Swords , that he was able to make interesting music that is very club and dubstep influenced while maintaining some personality in terms of style. A balance that I imagine is difficult to maintain. "Surph" is a track from that LP, and now this remixed version features stronger vocals from fellow electronic artist, Nightwave , who gives the song far more texture. So much so that now listening to the original version feels like it was missing something all along, I just didn't notice until now. The challenge with making any [...]

Nightwaves is back! This week I'm in Stockholm Sweden and I must say that so far this place is simply wonderful. The people are friendly, the food is excellent and the nightlife has been rad. Not to mention the fact that everyone seems effortlessly stylish and attractive... As such I have decided to make this Nightwaves a sort of "Ode" to Sweden. Some of these tunes are productions from Swedish artists and others are tracks I've heard since I've been here. All of them capture the infectious fancy free Swedish attitude. Long live summer and Tack Sweden. [...]

Well, it looks like the man who gave us one of the most fascinating albums and top Essential Mix contributions of the year is finally hitting North America. Rustie , with main support from Nightwave , and his Glass Swords will be touching down in select North American cities this September. Rustie in North America Sept 7 - New York @ Webster Hall ( FB ) Sept 8 - New York @ MoMA PS1 Warm Up ( FB ) [...]

This week will be short and sweet because I'm on vacation in the South of France. What really matters is the music. Relax, enjoy the moment and let these nightwaves warm your soul. [...]

It's Thursday again which means that the search for the perfect wave continues. This week I am sitting on the shore of the Mediterranean sea and bizarrely I've been listening to a lot of old school hip hop and R&B. As far as I’m concerned, whether winter or summer, it just doesn’t get any better than "return of the mack" by Mark Morrison. Sure DJs like Viceroy have tried to do remixes of the track but the original is still best. Now for another [...]

This is instalment number two for all of you out there who love summer: seaside/poolside chills, sunsets, balmy nights, cruising at dusk, hanging with that special someone in your car overlooking the city at make-out point. The first post was a bit of a test but after the overwhelmingly positive reaction I am going to keep my foot on the gas and help you work on your tan lines with another sun soaked compilation. Nevertheless this time I am slowly drowning. Not because a wave of [...]

Sydney, Australian darkwave duo, Buzz Kull , most recently put out their debut two track release on Young Latitudes earlier this summer. Right off the bat, 'Lost Control', opens the release and immediately captivates. Reminds me of the movie Drive . Cool night vision driving. Fast paced light riding. Lo-fi grit from the down-under y'all. Both tracks can be had for free on the YL bandcamp . Check out the rad video that comes with, 'Lost Control', below... Buzz Kull - Lost Control [...]
