After seeing Roberta Bondar and missing Bad Vibrations and Shameless at Babylon. I headed up to Café Nostalgica (which I thought was suppose to be closed in September in rebuilding it) to see Montreal's Cobra & Vultures . If you don't know they were formerly known as Nightwood. This was their first show in Ottawa with the new name. They were a last minute addition in opening up for Toronto's The Mark Inside . I haven't seen [...]

I always wondered what was going on in the Nightwood camp. Besides the drummer Jeremy who has been busy with Parlovr . (Guys when is the new album??) Anyways back on the topic. Low and behold, received an email from them here and is what I got. Friends, we are pleased to present our band. We still love Nightwood, but that is now a band from before, and here is Cobra & Vulture . Don't worry! Same band members just a different name. [...]

I wish I was in Montreal for this but will be listening to this online. Montreal's Nightwood is doing this great session in March for CKUT . I am more excited to hear Cotton Mouth (Basically its Parlovr with another singer ). Surprised that Sick Friend is in this session since I haven't from them in about two years. Here is the info taken from their website . [...]

As previously reviewed , Montreal's Reversing Falls just dropped two new songs. Its a teaser on what to expect on their full-length debut. Here is a quote from their Bandcamp page. Reversing Falls make explosive pop music - a Montreal based trio fueled by distorted guitars, anthemic melodies and hard hitting drum machine beats. I actually really like these two songs. Very indie grungey, garage alterna-pop sound. Surprised that Martin [...]

Reversing Falls is a Montreal band that I really want to checkout in 2011. Which should have been reviewed in late 2010 but got too busy with the holidays and best of list. Apparently I was not aware that they are close friends with members of Parlovr and Cotton Mouth and Nightwood . Due to their debut EP "Recoder" being produced by Martin Horn. Here is a short blurb on the EP. Recoder showcases their ability to deliver precision crafted, filler [...]

Here is another installment on the best of 2010: Singles. Its the singles from #31-#41. As mentioned before some of the singles will be based from the Singles Chart on this site. You might find some of the mainstream singles kind of lower in the list. But its not about what is popular just as long they are on the 2010 list. There is a two Glee songs in this list and you just have to find out which one they are. Check out the list. [...]
Sorry for the delay due to editing photos from this past weekend Ottawa Folk Festival. Here is this week's music singles chart. Not alot of change so far with an exception to three new debuts. Moving away from the nautical themes of their debt Carta Marina , Montreal's Nightwood are getting back to the land on their latest offering, "Carve a path like a valley through the land". The track was recorded at Montreal's Digital Bird Studios with Martin Horn of Cotton Mouth, and has an unmistakable earthy vibe to to it. Nightwood are playing at Ottawa's Cafe Deckuf tomorrow night, presented by none other than our favourite Capital-based blog, i (heart) music , and then will be at Toronto's Mod Club on [...]

I didn't get to see their set on May 7th at Raw Sugar Cafe . So I have to use photos of them from Pop Montreal in 2009. I managed to do a interview with Montreal's Cotton Mouth . Since Parlovr is one of my favorite bands at the moment. Here is the gist of what Cotton Mouth is. The band was started up by Martin Horn (Pictured in the bottom) who is also a producer. He produced Parlovr and Nightwood 's album. [...]
In Manitoba it's Louis Riel day, on PEI it's Islander Day, but In Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and it's Family Day, so I couldn't think of a better way to mark the occasion then with some honest-to-goodness family building time. And whose more like a family if not the members of your band? The folks in Nightwood certainly are embracing the spirit of the recently-enacted holiday by bonding over this week's QBiM Q&A. They're the first band in ages who've undertaken answering the questions collectively, and I think they're all the better off for having [...]
(photo: Marilis Cardinal) "Heavy, dark, but totally fun" is the way Montreal trio Nightwood describe themselves, and that's pretty apropos after listening to a few of the tracks on offer over at their Myspace page. The band originally caught my attention when they sent me an email letting me know about their most recent video "Bright Girls of Summer" off their October 2009 release, Carta Marina . The video is a time-lapsed document of the entire recording process for the record. When accompanied by the song's march-like beat, the [...]

Montreal band Nightwood have just released a new video to go along with their recently released album, Carta Marina . "The Bright Girls Of Summer" is a time-lapsed recording of the Carta Marina recording process. This is what the band has to say about the video… " The Bright Girls of Summer is the last song on Carta Marina. We hadn't planned on making a video for it so soon, but it works beautifully with the time lapse imagery. We really like this video because it's a neat little time capsule [...]

Montreal trio Nightwood made a stop by Canteen for Bands Undone . The members consist of: Amber Goodwyn Jeremy MacCuish Erin Ross They played a stripped down performance of two songs from their full length album "Carta Marina": [...]

If you haven't noticed on this site that I've been doing my Best of 2009 list . While compiling my best of "Canadian albums". I felt I shouldn't do a Top 10 since there were alot of great albums released in 2009. Decided to break it down to a top 50 list and in five parts. So here is the first part which I am counting from #41-#51 Fortesses - Octoberman Best tracks on this album [...]

I This Immortal Coil sono quello che dovrebbe essere definito un super gruppo, almeno visti i nomi dei protagonisti: Yaël Naim, Bonnie Prince Billy, Yann Tiersen, Matt Elliott, DAAU, Chapelier Fou, Sylvain Chauveau, Christine Ott, Oktopus, Nightwood, David Donatien e Nicolas Jorio. Ici d'Ailleurs fa uscire "The Dark Age Of Love", undici brani in cui [...]
