THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Earth w/ Mt. Eerie, Flap Sunday, September 11 The Earl - 488 Flat Shoals Avenue in Atlanta 30316 Admission $12 ADV / $15 DOS / Purchase Tickets Even at the peak of their heaviest drone metal doom, Earth was about conjuring mood and atmosphere. Buried beneath all the crushing noise and the layers of fuzz and feedback, there were riffs — painstakingly slow, deliberate, monolithic — and a semblance of structure, but the music thrived on luring [...]
MP3: Ninja Gun "That's Not What I Heard" Ninja Gun are streaming a new track " That's Not What I Heard " taken from their forthcoming EP " Roman Nose " here.
Ninja Gun hails from Valdosta, Ga., and has shared stages with the likes of Against Me! and the Gaslight Anthem. On April 12, the band is releasing Roman Nose (Sabot Productions), a four-song EP that's the follow-up to 2008 full-length Restless Rubes. Ninja Gun has an April 8 record-release show planned at The Atlantic in [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Tokyo Police Club w/ Two Door Cinema Club, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin Tuesday, January 25 Masquerade - 695 North Avenue NE in Atlanta 30306 Admission $17 / Purchase Tickets I don't know about you, but I played the shit out of that first Tokyo Police Club EP. All those angular guitars and off-kilter rhythms wrapped around sing-along hooks really resonated with me for some reason (the bucket loads of scrappy, youthful energy certainly didn't hurt [...]
Earlier this year, Murder By Death put on a pretty epic tour throughout the States in support of their latest effort, Good Morning, Magpie . Apparently, however, that wasn't enough for the four cello-obsessed whiskey fanatics. Which is why Murder By Death is hitting the road yet again, and this time they're even going to Canada for a few days! Starting this week, the Indiana natives will embark on a two-week tour alongside Philadelphia rockers MewithoutYou, only to get right back on the road in early September for their own headlining tour. Hitting everywhere from [...]

For a group of guys with such diverse backgrounds in styles like folk, blues, metal, hardcore and punk, Against Me! displays an overall output of rich melody, hooks and overall well-crafted song arrangements with each album. With this this year's White Crosses ; we get a very bouncy and powerful album complete with blasting up-tempo choruses with uplifting texture and depth, all the while perfectly showcasing singer Tom Gabel's smokey vocal style. This year Bonnaroo decided to line them up at the This tent with fellow punk/folk/rockers Lucero, Dropkick Murphys, Japandroids , and Rise Against [...]

The second annual Harvest of Hope Music Festival will return to St. Augustine, FL this March 12-14, and one thing is becoming quite clear: music's most underrated music festival is quickly becoming one of music's most stellar music festivals. This year's lineup once again again showcases a diverse roster of national and international acts, including alt-rock legend Billy Bragg, acclaimed folk-rock outfit The Mountain Goats, psychedelic rockers Dr. Dog, indie sensations Rogue Wave, UK punk band Leatherface, and the hardcore group Senses Fail. And that's just getting started. Man Man, Delta Spirit, Anti-Flag, The [...]

This is a neat musical scene we run in. It's a scene where even the biggest and most popular artists can be found sitting at the bar before they go on stage. There are few barriers and less ego between you and the people making the music you love. As a result, should you choose, you can build these miniature friendships with the bands. Don't get me wrong, when I call them "miniature friendships" I don't mean that as a slight, what I mean is that they're not like regular friendships. They're based around small conversations a couple of times [...]
AUG 4th- JACKSON, MS Earlier in July we received an invitation to take a guided tour of Ardent Studios in Memphis, and then a guided tour of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, by the founder of Ardent, John Fry. We of course took them up on this and had an amazing afternoon with Mr. Fry hearing some pretty crazy stories. They were also re-mastering "I Am The Cosmos" while we were there and the master tapes were just sitting in a chair, which was awesome/funny. All in all one of the best side trips we've ever done. [...]

Anyone who pays any attention to music in Florida has heard about The Takers at some point in the past year, and since Suburban Home picked them up the hype machine has been doing nothing but gaining momentum. By the time Virgil reached out to me with a copy of their debut album, Taker Easy , I was already wondering if they would be able to match the advance billing. Now, after spending some 2 months with the cd and managing to catch them live at the Citrus Circuit Tour, I can readily proclaim that yes, they [...]

Added: Thu, 21 May 2009 00:00:00 -0700 Description: Coody and his happy bunch rolled in here with Mike Hale a little while back. They had just come from New Jersey, where they had randomly run into Willie Nelson, while wandering around New Brunswick. This is off of their Suburban Home release, "Restless Rubes".

Hey guys and gals. I'm sitting here in Colorado waiting for the sun to come up so I can get out of this room and onto the mountain. The nice thing about having an east coast internal clock is that I get up early enough to have coffee and eat without rushing. Today's guest post comes from the owner of the Colorado based (see the tie in there?) label, Suburban Home Records , Virgil Dickerson. It is about a band that quite frankly, I've heard of numerous times but had never heard. I hope y'all like it. [...]

Here's the second half of my list so if you missed the first part, it's right here . What you've got here are my favorite albums of 2008. Honestly, I was actually surprised how the list ended up but I don't care how much street cred I lose for these picks, they are the records that I just couldn't stop playing. 25. Okkervil River - The Stand Ins ( Jagjaguwar ) I'm pretty much convinced that any record that Will Sheff puts out (until [...]

Note from Autopsy IV: I am out this weekend babysitting my new puppy so I've lined up a whole slew of guest writers for the week. I hope y'all enjoy them and the music they bring to our attention as much as I am. I'll be back early next week. Today's guest writer is Michael Dauphin . He's the editor of Dude's Magazine and also contributes to punknews.org a site I frequent and since you come around this site, you should too. [...]
