Ed Schrader's Music Beat dropped their debut LP, Jazz Mind last month. The Baltimore-based duo started a simply: it was just Ed and a floor tom. Since Schrader started working with bassist Devlin Rice, they have created something that oscillates between no-wave punk and genres a bit more gloomy, croony and doomy. This here is the track number eight which features guitar and noise from Randy Randall of No Age . Listen. Downloadable: When I'm in a Car (mp3) You can purchase the physical [...]

BECK gets very jazz here. His vocals, mixed with the lovely piano, quiet underlying bass and some brooding backing vocals makes this track quite atmospheric and interesting. It’s a real leap away from the alternative folk we’ve come to expect from the indie lord. Not that we mind, because we like jazz too. The deal is that Beck ’s cover of ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’ (which first became a hit in the ‘30s for one Ben Selvin) will be spliced together with other covers, by American multimedia artist, [...]
Beck covered 'I Only Have Eyes for You' as a contribution to artist Doug Aitken's multimedia exhibit at the Hirshhorn.

Und..... Beck ? No, we're afraid not that one. For a sincere fan of Beck, this song is welcome news this week. Beck's cover of "I Only Have Eyes For You" could be attributed to many different artists over the years and made most popular by The Flamingos , but the uniqueness of each one is what makes the song so special. A full list of everyone who's covered this song can be found here if that interests you. As a second tier of info to this dreamy and oddly high-quality version [...]
"I Only Have Eyes For You" is a classic American song, a standard written in 1934 by Harry Warren and Al Dubin and most famously recorded by the Flamingos in 1959. And now a whole host of indie artists have recorded covers of the song for artist Doug Aitken's installation " Song 1 ," which comes to Washington, D.C.'s Hirshhorn Museum 5/11. Former Stereogum dude and current Pitchfork editor Brandon Stosuy helped to organize the event, which will involve projections on the museum's walls. Listen to versions of the song from Beck, No Age with Tim McAffee, Devendra Banhart with [...]

Back in March, multimedia artist Doug Aitken began his highly-auspicious public art project "Song 13. Running through May 13th, the installation sees the cylindrical exterior of Washington, DC's Hirshhorn Museum transformed into an 360-degree outdoor cinema, with 11 projectors covering the 82-foot high building each night from sunset to midnight. Accompanying the various visual components is a soundtrack of spliced-together covers of "I Only Have Eyes for You" by Beck, Lucky Dragons, Koen Holtkamp, High Places, James Murphy, Devendra Banhart, No Age featuring Tim McAfee, and more. These new versions range from the hazy crooning of Beck's to [...]

When it rains it pours around here. Another one from Seattle for you guys, the Creakies are guitar and drum duo that have been bending my ear with their brand of noisy pop. They've played around town infrequently, but hopefully that will change with the released their Redwood EP that came out earlier this month via bandcamp (thanks to fuzzbook for the heads up). It's four songs that are influenced by punk rock and indie DIY. Lead track Arnold's Song has a classic fuzzy rif and high pitched melody that is part [...]

LA lo-fi dream-pop band Dunes have an album called Noctiluca coming out on March 6th by way of No Age -member Dean Spunt's label Post Present Medium . Should be cool. (via Pitchfork )
