SINGLES: Lets kick this Month's Crop of manly Movember single reviews with South London's lively band called Dead Social Club . Despite the mention of a Jeffrey on the self titled song from EP 'Syrian Kisses' it is not a reference to all inclusive recreational joint from Take Me To The Greek with P-Diddy. This is classic Brit electronic indie rock mixing all of the glorious warehouse vibes into one head bopping tune via their 6 piece ensemble. Syrian Kisses MP3 by Dead Social Club [...]

The Appleseed Cast Sagarmatha Vagrant Records Release Date: 02.17.09 Appleseed Cast came on the scene for most people in 1998, when they signed to the then-mighty emo powerhouse Deep Elm Records . They were a textbook Deep Elm Band, appearing on the second (and arguably best) of the seminal Emo Diaries comps alongside early rare tracks from The Blacktop Cadence and Pop Unknown . As emo as Appleseed Cast is as a name, you may be surprised to find that the band initially took form under the [...]

As previously mentioned , I was able to chat with singer/guitarist Ryan Ferguson of No Knife , which is supporting three dates (Los Angeles, San Diego and Tempe) on Jimmy Eat World's Clarity x 10 tour. A story I wrote on No Knife advancing Saturday's show can be found here . But there was plenty from my interview with Ferguson that was left out. So I figured I'd present it here, save for our geek talk about spring training and fantasy baseball. (Ferguson plays in an adult baseball league with former [...]
So Jimmy Eat World is touring in support of the 10th anniversary of their album Clarity. That would have been big news until a band called No Knife decided to reunite — after breaking up in 2003 — for a few stops on that tour. Prior to their separation, the San Diego, Calif., band released four albums in the late 90s and early 2000s, with Fire in the City of Automatons and Riot for Romance! being records every good music fan needs to own. We were honored and lucky enough [...]

Last spring we caught SUPERDRAG at their NYC reunion show and it got us wishing they'd be around for more than just a few shows. Well its now looking like our wishes were heard by someone. The original lineup of Don Coffey Jr , John Davis , Brandon Fisher , and Tom Pappas announced they are officially back and putting out a new studio album! The band just wrapped up the recording of Industry Giants and it's looking like it will be released on their own [...]

It's been a while (since 1998's Head Trip In Every Key ), but Superdrag is back with new music from the original Davis/Coffey/Fisher/Pappas lineup. The album, Industry Giants , will be hitting shelves March 17. What with this, Emogame being back up , The Get Up Kids ' reunion and No Knife getting back together for the Jimmy Eat World Clarity x 10 tour, I feel like I'm 18 again. So now I'm heading over to mp3.com [...]

I know we like to talk about the good ol' days here at A to Z and elsewhere, but this vintage Galaxy poster I found at a used record store around town doesn't exactly have the most booming out-of-town show schedule. (Although an opening set from (the reunited?!) No Knife caught my eye -- talk about an underrated band, in the vein of Rocket from the Crypt/early Promise Ring. Watch Listen to "Brush Off" at the website above.) What year was this, anyway?

This weeks Hangover mix comes from Birmingham 4 piece Blakfish . I was lucky enough to catch them in Eammon Dorans a few months back and was totally blown away by them and how tight they are, they will be back on theses shores in August ( dates in the read more ) ( tracklisting and download link in the read more ) Tracklisting 01 Sawdust and Diamonds - Joanna Newsom 02 Let go - Frou Frou 03 Playing Possom for a Peek - Owen 04 Love [...]
I have a thing or two to say concerning this, The Moon EP. I've taken to taking walks at night when I'm done with computer and television. This is a really quite a splendid practice I recommend to all of you. It's perfect lurker weather right now. Brisk. Take a sweatshirt or a scarf. Trespass a little. Whatever. All of it. The moon is a neat thing. We went there I'm sure you know. There's a

Oh, what providence, we're already to the end of another week, and welcome to another installment of The Nostalgic Weekend. Today, I am here to relate the tale of four musicians (well six, if you want to count lineup changes) from San Diego, known as No Knife . They formed in 1994, and released Drunk on the Moon the following year, and instantly started garnering a local following. While they released another full-length album in '97 ( Hit Man Dreams ) and toured constantly with local friends, they didn't really produce a sound that was beyond the [...]
