In celebration of the Playstation Network's resurrection, here is the coolest list of the top 10 video-game-themes you're ever likely to see. Ahem. 10. Cave Story - Intro [STUDIO PIXEL] Perhaps the most arcane entry on this list, Cave Story (洞窟物語 Dōkutsu Monogatari) is a freeware platform-adventure game released in 2004 initially only for PC. [...]

The first time I saw the legendary video game composer Nobuo Uematsu in person was about a year ago. A group called Video Game Orchestra was putting on a performance at 20102s Anime Boston, an anime convention up north. Being an enormous fan of video game music, I checked my schedule, crossed off some panels, and made time for going there. The concert was incredible; seeing songs that have been in games so dear to my heart being placed by a live orchestra was a feeling unlike any other. As the performance drew to a close, they announced that their [...]
A Hip-Hop record about Final Fantasy VII? As good of a combination as peanut butter and jelly.

The best game soundtrack of all time deserves more love. Love you, Uematsu. Check out the whole mix from the Youtube links above, or from Team Teamwork's tumblr . Children of the 90s, there's a Ocarina Of Time set of mixes, too. MP3: MF Doom - Air (Barrett's Theme)

This came out a few days ago and it's pretty dope. Team Teamwork took rap/hiphop accapellas and remixed them with the Nobuo Uematsu composed music from the classic PlayStation RPG, Final Fantasy VII . I love this shit. The album is available for free (or a donation of an amount to your choosing) from Team Teamwork's BandCamp page . Long time lurker, first time poster. I actually really did intend to contribute to last week's theme, but not-so-surprisingly missed it because I was lazy. Luckily this week's theme is even better. I'm a huge fan of instrumental music (to me it's always about the melody and the sound, the space of music rather than meaningful stories told through songs, the same goes with vocalists, the lyrics are just a very nice add to go with the pretty, pretty soundwaves) and I had about a trillion potential tracks to post here, but I tried my best and selected [...]
This theme is right up my alley :D. I listen to a lot of instrumental music to help me set the mood for writing. Here are some of my current (and old) favorites: Ghosts 36 IV - Nine Inch Nails This song has a very melancholic feel to it with it's soft dulcet piano notes. Trent Reznor is a master at this. I could listen to this track for hours and not grow tired of its sad, nostalgic beauty. In fact, I recommend the entire Ghosts album, [...]

Krzysztof Komeda - Rosemary's Party Andre 3000 feat. Kelis - Dracula's Wedding Zombies Ate My Neighbors - Weird Kids on the Block Metronomy - Trick Or Treats Tom Waits - Dave the Butcher Zombies Ate My Neighbors - Evening of the Undead Glass Candy - I Always Say Yes Jensen Sportag - Japanese Zombie Schoolgirls Nobuo Uematsu - Dark World

I know I said I'd lay off the video game soundtracks. But, holy christ, there's just so much of that stuff out there on dexes... someone out there has to care about it... Like take this dex for instance. Yeah. Wow. That's about 150-200 different soundtracks to video games such as Dawn of Mana, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy and the various Zelda sequels. Oh, and the 5-cd set that is the soundtrack to Okami that I posted about last year. [...]

I think my first hardcore experience with the roiling black sea of message board insanity was when I was scanning the SegaSages forums and came across a post asking whether or not chocobos, the emu-like flightless birds used as mounts and draft animals in the equine-poor Final Fantasy games, could be used as a foodstuff. The resulting discussion was as long as it was ferociously contentious. Anime freaks bitched about how chocobos were cheap ripoffs of the horseclaws from Nausica
