Fat Mike teamed up with members of the Mad Caddies and Tom Waits ' backing band to create the ragtime soundtrack. For those of you who would like to listen to Fat Mike's new work without being caught by your parents watching pornography, the soundtrack is up for sale on iTunes . Finally, for those of you who would like the whole [...]
Aside from the blood, bruises, beer, and the bands, the one thing you could always count on punk-rock for was to provoke unpopular thought. To make you go against what polite society and your p... Continue reading "I'm Going To Hell For This One: NOFX's Most Sacrilegious Songs" >

Originally hailing from NJ, I've been a Bigwig fan for a VERY long time, yet I realized that I haven't posted one of my favorite albums by them. In the interest of not failing my home state (and by consequence, not having defender of NJ Danny Devito come by and kick me in the balls), let me just state that Bigwig's Invitation To Tragedy is an essential.Released over 10 years ago back in

Originally hailing from NJ, I've been a Bigwig fan for a VERY long time, yet I realized that I haven't posted one of my favorite albums by them. In the interest of not failing my home state (and by consequence, not having defender of NJ Danny Devito come by and kick me in the balls), let me just state that Bigwig's Invitation To Tragedy is an essential. Released over 10 years ago back in 2001 (shit, that's a sobering thought), I remember logging many skate hours to the beautiful sounds [...]

And so we find ourselves with another guest review! This time, it's by the illustrious and delightful Tricia from I Sing in the Kitchen : A blog where she showcases musical treats and delicious eats! 9 times out of 10, I'm drooling by the end of her posts. It's a great site. Check it out. We're still hoping to get Betsy's review of the tracks Erin reviewed in Episode 2. I'm not worried about her reviewing old songs. The point is not keeping up to date. The point is getting fresh perspectives on songs we listen to! [...]
Eric Melvin and Fat Mike of NOFX visited Occupy San Francisco yesterday. The two members of the band performed a new song, which is presumably titled "Occupy" since the chorus involves saying it a real lot. They followed that up with "Franco Un-American."
So sayeth Fat Mike and NOFX.. and Yeah- I dig em. I like the NOFX song too. What's not to like about Bad Religion? Great lyrics. Anti-authority. Great chorus's. I love the harmonies. They're old and pissed, just like me. And I learn new words when I decipher their songs!! They've got the punk rock cred (and that's not even taking account Greg Hetson's Circle Jerkdom and Brian Baker's Minor Threat service). When did How Could Hell Be Any Worse come out? 1938? Besides, I took Princess Nomad [...]

A review of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes all-Japanese cover album, 'Sing in Japanese.'
Fat Mike, he of NOFX and urine-shot fame , has abandoned his tinkle-soaked shenanigans to focus on his ever-expanding belly. Fat Mike has partnered with a pupu platter of restaurateurs (David Massoni and Chef Rebecca Weitzman of 'inoteca, plus John Bush of Niagara Bar) to open Thistle Hill, a bar-restaurant with surprisingly grown up aspirations in Yuppie HQ, Park Slope. Has he sold out? According to the chatter at Punknews , yes, but then again, who hasn't sold out according to the chatter at Punknews? Thistle Hill has begun to garner accolades for its [...]

It's been a while since I put together a Classics post. After all these years of turning my musical tastes in circles, a good punk song can still bring a smile to my face. Here are a few of them that are rock solid after many layers of dust are removed. *If this isn't your cup of tea, come back later and I will post some nice, fluffy, folky stuff. El Lay - NOFX I like how this song confirms my prejudice of Los Angeles being the most unappealing place in the world, and how twenty years later it is still probably very much the same, trading hair metal for hair... something else. Free use of the n-word, white, bedroom hip hop, maybe. And i like how there has been nearly fifteen years of NOFX that i've passed by unaware since i left them. The band compulsory if you were ever a twelve year [...]
