Ok, this might not exactly be "metal news" but it's still pretty cool. In celebration of 15 years running of the Warped Tour, and to celebrate they had a concert on September 5th featuring some legendary punk bands including NOFX, BAD RELIGION, Ice T's BODY COUNT and PENNYWISE, as well as new favorites like UNDEROATH, [...]
It's somewhat ironic to consider anything as harsh as Black Flag or The Jesus Lizard "refreshing," but that was the first thought that raced to my mind when "False Jesii Part 2," the opening track on King of Jeans came blasting out of my headphones.

So I popped over to look at upcoming concerts in my city tonight. I saw that Modest Mouse were coming to a rather nice venue near me. They're a group that I'm intrigued by; I'd love to see live; I'd enjoy giving you a review of what it would be like to experience the hype, you know, the whole thing of it all. And there's a few tracks on their latest record that turn me on quite a bit. I click on the "buy now" button and my heart sank.... it directed me, immediately to TicketBastard. I knew then that [...]

LISTENING Rings by Sean Bones I came into Rings skeptical of its staying power, a perception built over several failed attempts to educate myself on reggae. The lack of success in these endeavors leaves me unsophisticated enough to know if Sean Bones plays quality reggae or not. I do know I enjoy it. Genre conventions are mixed with indie scene lyrics (you'll find no [...]

Big shoutout to Alberto Contador for being superhuman. I'd also like to note how righteous and civilized it is when racers spend the final day of a three-week bicycle race riding slowly along, smiling, chatting, and sipping Champagne with their rivals. Watching the final stage of the Tour de France yesterday, I could not get this song by American(!) Joe Ira Dassin out of my head. Not that I really wanted to. Joe Dassin - Les Champs-Élysées [...]
When I was in High School I was surrounded by Hip-Hop kids & naturally gravitated towards that, but when I left H.S. that all changed. The kids I hung out with were punk rock kids & I found my niche. I loved the three chord anthems, the speed, the noise, the anger, all of it. We'd Go to Koo's Cafe & watch bands playing those cranked out punk songs like they were lighting matches, just ferociously grinding away against the perceived establishment. I started really loving the whole scene & while I was never a "gutter punk" I [...]

The princess and I attended the Warped Tour at it's local stop over the weekend. Note how I did NOT say that we attended it together. I was dumped at the gate. The princess is 15 years old now and feels she does not need her old man to cramp her style. Of course, she DID need her old man to gain her entry, as I was granted a couple of press passes, gaining me access to said festival. So, she hung out with me long enough to get a press pass, and off she went, [...]
Just look at this line-up for Riot Fest 2009, which is celebrating it's fifth anniversary. How could it not rule? (Ahem) ... Screeching Weasel, Naked Raygun, Dead Milkmen, Butthole Surfers NOFX, Alkaline Trio, Murder City Devils,The Dead Milkmen & Cock Sparrer, 88 Fingers Louie, Riverboat Gamblers, Pegboy, No Empathy, Youth Brigade, Teenage Bottlerocket, Lower Class Brats, [...]

"Riot Fest firmly established itself in 2006 as one of the best showcases for punk and underground music in the country." - Jim Derogatis, Chicago Sun Times Five years. What does it all mean? Five years equals 25,336 fans, over 150 bands, 946 stage dives, 4 a**hole bouncers, 2632 cases of beer, 172 hours in line, 1 FBI Sting, 23 business suits and too many broken ribs. That, my friends is something. For a closer look at Riot Fests past, we've thoughtfully provided this great video: Watch [...]
Man, so the other day, I was informed that I need to get to work earlier, as in an hour and a half earlier. Oh, and they also want me to stay later (not happening). I'm already taking a hit in pay since I work for a non-profit... but the reason I took the job was because they didn't seem strict about the hours. Well, now there is no reason to stay here.So to all my other fellow wage slaves and
Fat Mike hearts Tegan and Sara Apparently there are people who don't get the NOFX song " Creeping Out Sara ". In Fat Mike's words: "Just for the record I wanted to say that I wrote the song, "Creeping Out Sara" to be funny and offensive and even a bit danceable. There seemed to be no problem, until a couple of magazines printed that NOFX were dissing Tegan and Sara in the song. Totally backwards. I was dissing myself in this song. I like Tegan and [...]
Just like they seem to have done about every other year, NOFX have released a new album and this one is titled Coaster and it is their 11th. Did you hear that Fat Wreck Chords is now pricing all CD's at $10 or less? This is the first new release with that pricing. It's hard to believe that the band has been around since 1983 but as someone who has been listening to NOFX as long as I've been listening to punk music (and that's [...]

ARTIST: NoFX - [Album] With free mp3 downloads for "The Quitter" and "Creeping Out Sara" DATE: 05-12-09 REVIEW BY: Bill Adams For the last twenty-four years (give or take), NoFX has enjoyed a sort of extended adolescence because they've managed to keep a perfect balance of sophomoric lyrical content (jokes about the human body as well as its tolerance for consumption of drugs and alcohol and the comic results of testing those limits) and prescient social and [view more]

Filed under: News , Exclusive Many record labels probably wouldn't advertise the fact that they have a huge inventory of unsold CD's. For NOFX frontman Fat Mike, that very situation at the label he owns, Fat Wreck Chords, inspired the title of his band's latest album, 'Coaster.' "We have all these old albums that we can't seem to get rid of," Mike tells Spinner. "It was our inside joke that we had a warehouse full of a million coasters." In a bid to sell [...]
En daar sta je dan met lege handen. Acht jaar lang hoefde Fat Mike de krant maar open te slaan om een schijnbaar onuitputtelijke bron van inspiratie aan te treffen. Twee termijnen George W. Bush was ruim genoeg om vier...
Fat Mike talks 'Creeping Out Sara' On NOFX 's new album, ' Coaster ,' frontman Fat Mike recounts an awkward meeting with one-half of the sisters Quin in the song, ' Creeping Out Sara .' He sings about not being sure of which sister he's talking to, and asks, with tongue-in-cheek, if they'd "ever had a threesome where they both ganged up one girl." Naturally, some of Tegan and Sara's fans, and many in the lesbian community, expressed disgust and even decried homophobia on Fat Mike's part. Spinner recently spoke to [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive Hell hath no wrath like a Tegan and Sara fan scorned. Just ask NOFX 's Fat Mike, who's in hot water with the out twin duo's legion -- and, arguably, rightly so. You see, on NOFX's new album, 'Coaster,' frontman Fat Mike recounts an awkward meeting with one-half of the sisters Quin in the song, 'Creeping Out Sara.' He sings about not being sure of which sister he's talking to, and asks, with tongue-in-cheek, if they'd "ever had a threesome where they [...]
Kevin Lyman, co-founder of the ever popular Warped Tour , is developing a country music tour and plans to hit the road next summer. No word on which artists will play the as-yet unnamed festival, but Lyman told Billboard there will be "13-14 acts and 10-12 singer/songwriters." If you think a punk rock tour that has hosted bands like AFI , Anti-Flag , NOFX and Rise Against making the leap to country music is, like, so effin' lame dude, consider it industry standard. Goldenvoice, the company [...]
Take a look at your vinyl (hipster...)/digital (pirate...) /cd (obsolete-ist) collection, and see if you own Pump Up The Valuum and American Errorist... if you do, then you pretty much own NOFX's latest album "Coaster". This could be good or bad depending on how you look at it.To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from NOFX on Coaster, but I was pleasantly surprised. The songs aren't
