Ouça Benefits , nova faixa do North Highlands . Essa de banda de indie pop do Brooklyn está preparando seu álbum de estréia Wild One , e Benefits será uma das faixas que estará nele. Destaque para a bela voz de Brenda Melvi. Bene fits by North Highlands (via Stereogum )
Brooklyn indie-pop outfit North Highlands are prepping their full-length debut, following splashes on the back of "Sugar Lips" and "Collar Bones," "Steady Steady" and "Hiking." "Benefits" is the first cut from the Wild One LP, and it sounds like the work of a band in the throes of songwriting maturation: the verse's lilt cedes to a dance-rock break, the guitars buried in the mix but arpeggiating around singer Brenda Melvi's sweetly intoned "Take what you want"s in a way that might recall a gentler Metric. Historically the week of live shows preceeding the CMJ Music Marathon is normally as light as it gets here in New York City. This year things are a little different as the week has shaped up to be a pretty solid one. King Khan & the Shrines is the highlight for us but there's a... Read More
With two nights at Bowery Ballroom already under their belts, it was time to catch up with Ra Ra Riot at Music Hall of Williamsburg this past Thursday for their 3rd consecutive NYC show. Each member of the opener We Barbarians was distinct and impressive. The drummer, Nathan Warketin, was energetic, precise, and engaging. The bassist, Derek Vanheule, kept the set tight and added a great deal to the melodies of several songs (going beyond the standards I’ve seen from several indie/rock-based groups). Most importantly [...]
