The term "Superjam" can get thrown around a bit around here, but the minute I glanced at the listing of local players gathering around Luther Dickinson's 3-Night residency at the Maple Leaf Bar, it was apparent that some Jazz Fest After Dark-quality improvisational jam sessions were going to transpire in the familiar and friendly confines [...]
The annual Wanee Festival announced their initial set of artists today with the old-school heavy hitters of Allman Brothers Band and Furthur taking lead on the lineup this year. Both bands will be performing two nights so the sit-in potential on this festival is absolutely insane. That's obviously what the promoters go for when they [...]
This little corner of the Internet would not be possible without the help, hard work and support of the folks below. We've got an eclectic confederation of folks keeping the wheels turning at LMB NOLA and we hope you enjoy reading our memories from the year in music. Continue on below as we recount our [...]

Chicago's Aliveone bar and music venue will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Saturday night with a special group put just together just for the occasion called Motorboat. This "supergroup" features Umphrey's McGee bassist Ryan Stasik and guitarist Brendan Bayliss, Cody Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars on drums and moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey. Tickets for this private event are not for sale and can be won through raffles at the venue tonight and tomorrow.

Still promoting their newest album Keys To The Kingdom , local (basically) neo-blues heroes North Mississippi Allstars play Minglewood Hall the day after Thanksgiving, Friday the 25th. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson along with long-time bassist Chris Chew have now been at it as the Allstars for 15 years, 10 of those as a full time band. You know this band kills it live, so come see them on Friday. Previous Show of the Week and killer band [...]

[Photos by Johnny Fried Chicken Boy] After hearing this site's incredible capture of brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars back in June, I knew I needed to see what this Mississippi blues act was all about for myself. Brooklyn Bowl - now the obvious heir to Wetlands in terms of this type of programming - was the perfect place for the introduction. As is the norm for a Friday night, a lot of the drunken suburban crowd was mostly there to party, but those paying more attention were rewarded [...]
Although last week there were a ton of shows going on due to CMJ, I think I'm actually more impressed with this week's selection. Check it out...
The boys from the Mississippi hill country returned once again to one of their favorite venues (even mentioning at one point that NMAS should have a monthly gig at Tip's – one can dream), continuing to operate as a model of consistency and delivering a lengthy display of instrumental mastery for the packed-out house. It was a thoroughly rowdy night on the corner of Tchoup that felt downright quintessential in the familiar haunt. The formula is simple: Empassioned, rockin' blues jams and a genuine sense of realness that's hard to match. I've been watching these guys deliver for nearly a [...]
Today marked the unofficial beginning to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the annual (and free) festival that brings thousands of people to Golden Gate Park each and every fall with tarps in tow and whiskey drinking on the brain. I saw unofficial because really only MC Hammer played today as part of an educational outreach program, so tomorrow is really when the action begins. The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival has become a cultural institution in the city and something that we music fans hardly take for granted (LULZ SEE WHAT I DID THERE) . [...]

And cue the collective sigh of relief (or remorse, depending): festival season is over. Basically. With the triumphant conclusion of Arcade Fire on Friday night, the 2011 installments of the "Big Four" are officially kaput. There are a few minor festivals here and there left for fall and winter to tide us over until next April in Indio, but by and large we've seen what 2011 had to offer. We don't want to get too sentimental or take the spotlight away from Austin City Limits , but it was a hell of a year, folks. From Dave Grohl and [...]

I'm not sure if it is soup or salad. With soup all the various ingredients are left to simmer until they meld into a dish with inseparable parts. A salad, on the other hand, mixes its ingredients up and pours a little dressing on top to hold them together. Yet, the salad even after assembly can be separated into its constituent parts. You can take the tomatoes out of a salad but you can't take the tomatoes out of soup. Sensuous singer, songwriter and guitarist Olga Wilhelmine Munding teamed [...]

The whole "XXX Music" movement has gotten very little run here on ninebullets for a lot of reasons, one of the biggest being the name but I had a little bit of an epiphany while talking on ninebullets radio a few weeks back. To paraphrase I basically said that, " disagreements aside, the simple fact is that we're on the same side and fighting the same war... " With that said: Give Me My XXX is a grassroots movement intended to give "outer-edge" artists a common umbrella to call home and it tries to be [...]

We keep our eyes peeled for new tour dates announcements each week and compile them on Tuesdays for this handy column… In 2007, Lisa Hannigan parted ways with Damien Rice, after recording two critically acclaimed albums, as frustrations arose within their working relationship. The split, which was far from amicable, seemed to have worked out well for Hannigan, as Rice hasn't put out much in the way of new material since 20062s 9 , while the folkie-chanteuse will release her sophomore album Passenger via ATO Records on [...]
"Keys To The Kingdom is a celebratory declaration of life in the face of death". Zelden werden in één zin de intenties van een plaat zo duidelijk weergegeven. Want Keys to the Kingdom is een viering van leven en dood....
Via documentary film maker Max Shores . Audio of each artists full set is available for free download as well. Check the video details on YouTube for more info:
Luther and Cody Dickinson were born with instruments in their hands and their dad, legendary music producer Jim Dickinson (Big Star, The Replacements, etc.), probably would have been disappointed had his sons grown up to be doctors or lawyers. Fortunately, the two continued on the family's musical legacy by forming the North Mississippi Allstars , along with bassist Chris Chew, back in 1996. With Robert Plant's relatively recent dedication to revisiting old blues, folk and country songs, it makes total sense that he's invited the Dickinson brothers (under the name [...]

[photo by Botellita de Cielo ] Les Paul passed away two summers ago at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of instrumental and stylistic invention unmatched by any person in modern music. As a continuing tribute to the man, his trio performs every Monday night at the Iridium Jazz Club with a regular rotation of distinguished guests from the worlds of blues, jazz and rock - all of whom cite Les as a continuing inspiration. On Monday night, blues-rock masters the North Mississippi Allstars performed two [...]

It's the day of the Champions League final, so it sure is gonna be a mad Wild Weekend . While waiting for the kick-off in nervous anticipation, let's get down with edition #61. Spotlight on the soul of Raw Spitt and the swamp rock of the Scientists, while we've got the Blind Owl blues and listen to a reggae psalm. Make it a wild one, y'all, and don't forget: ¡Visca el Barça y visca Catalunya! Let's get into the groove with a guy who called himself Raw Spitt. [...]
Well well well, coming up on our two year anniversary here at Bob Dylan Friday and I'm still not done celebrating Bob's birthday quite honestly. 70 years old! After living the way he did, and that pesky little heroin addiction in 1966, that came out right before his birthday - this is a fucking miracle. [...]
