While the Allman Brothers Band have been keeping a March musical tradition going since 1989 with their Beacon Theatre runs, Soulive has given life to a musical tradition all their own in Brooklyn. In 2010 Soulive played a 10-night, guest-laden residency at the Brooklyn Bowl titled "Bowlive." Now in its fourth year, Soulive continues to top themselves with each successive Bowlive. From last night's Bowlive IV opening show, the trio has laid the groundwork for raising the bar once again. [All Photos by Andrew Blackstein] [...]

Live Review: London Souls and North Mississippi Allstars at The Independent, February 8, 2013

From Bob Dylan's Blood On The Tracks to Beck's Sea Changes, heartbreak has been the inspiration for a number of classic albums, and we might be adding another to the list courtesy of Josh Ritter , who will release his seventh studio album The Beast In Its Tracks on March 5. The talented singer-songwriter wrote and recorded his latest during the 18 months after his marriage had ended with fellow musician Dawn Landes (an experience you can read about here ). Ritter, who is currently streaming the album's lead single Joy To You Baby , will [...]
[Photos by acidjack] North Mississippi Allstars frontman Luther Dickinson noted early on during this show at Irving Plaza that NMAS hasn't been to Manhattan in awhile. While we checked in with NMAS-related projects like Luther's The Wandering at Joe's Pub this year and the stripped-down NMAS Duo at Iridium Jazz Club last year, it has seemed that the full band has more or less dedicated its NYC performances to Brooklyn Bowl of late. Besides the venue change, this show represented a return to NYC without a key member [...]
Do you want to jam with thousands of your friends for free in the park, or do you want to rock with with an equally impressive crowd at a bar? Here's your lineup for tonight... just get out to see some live music! You can get out to Public Square Park tonight to party with the North Mississippi All-Stars, Missing Cats Featuring John "JoJo" Hermann & Sherman Ewing, & Roots of a Rebellion for another episode of Live On The Green. For those of you that don't know North Mississippi All-Stars, then you don't know some serious jams. [...]

A live set of rollicking blues, soul, and roots music, the kind of unfinished, less than perfect sound of a band, and a man, out to have a good time (and successfully so) rocking the house down! The influential in our culture often die unrecognized and unacknowledged. Or their once-prominent reputation wanes, depending on the latest scholarly or public consensus. To the cognoscenti, the true disciples, usually a minority of admirers and standard bearers, nothing could be further from the truth. They work diligently - sometimes successfully, sometimes not - to keep an artist's memory alive and the flame [...]

The members of The New Pornographers are very judicious when it comes to the release of their solo albums, putting them out usually in between releases and touring commitments for the indie-rock super-group. This fall the band's front man, A.C. Newman , will put out his still-untitled third solo effort, and first since 2009, via Matador Records. While the details of Newman's record are still TBD, he has revealed a full slate of fall dates in support of the record. Newman's North American tour kicks off on October 21, with a gig at Lee's Palace in Toronto, [...]

[Photo from the Mountain Jam Facebook Page] With its all-star lineup of sacred steel /modern jazz/blues musicians, you can't help but call The Word a supergroup. Featuring Robert Randolph ( pedal steel guitar ), John Medeski ( keyboards ), and all three members of North Mississippi Allstars - Luther Dickinson ( electric guitar ), Cody Dickinson ( drums , washboard ), and Chris Chew ( bass guitar ), The Word don't generally get to tour together often (although they've done some festival dates this summer), but when these players share a stage, it's an [...]
The Tennessee songwriter is coming to San Diego // Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

[Photos by acidjack] North Mississippi Allstars guitarist/vocalist Luther Dickinson has made a life mission of keeping Delta blues alive while continuing to expand the genre through his own new efforts. His latest project, The Wandering, finds him teaming up with four exceptional female musicians - Amy LaVere, Shannon McNally, Valerie June, and Sharde Thomas - to honor the richness and diversity of the blues with a new record that combines new tracks and well-loved standards. This show at the grown ups' music paradise Joe's Pub was a perfect platform to showcase the members' individual [...]
We've got another great week in NYC live music this week, including several nights of The Boss, Dr. John with Dan Auerbach (of the Black Keys), a multi-night run by Citizen Cope , plus shows by The Rapture , SBTRKT , the North Mississippi All Stars, and the War on Drugs (who come highly recommended ). Last but not least, the Bowery Presents has announced a new webcast for their recently-expanded YouTube channel , featuring Of Monsters and Men live from the Music Hall of Williamsburg this [...]
The Beale Street Music Festival returns to Memphis this May for its 36th annual run. This year's lineup is as eclectic as always, with headliners including Jane's Addiction, My Morning Jacket, Florence + The Machine, Wiz Khalifa, Evanescence, Primus, and Girl Talk, among many others across the genre spectrum
MUSIC NEWS - The Blues/rock trio the North Mississippi Allstars are planning to release a series of digital singles throughout 2012, the first of which became available for download via iTunes and the band's official website. Some of the singles in the series will feature special guest appearances and some will be accompanied by a music video. The first single in the series is the barn-burner " Rollin' n Tumblin' ," a cover of the traditional blues classic. The choice for the first release was a natural one for the band -- " 'Rollin' n Tumblin'' [...]
The term "Superjam" can get thrown around a bit around here, but the minute I glanced at the listing of local players gathering around Luther Dickinson's 3-Night residency at the Maple Leaf Bar, it was apparent that some Jazz Fest After Dark-quality improvisational jam sessions were going to transpire in the familiar and friendly confines [...]
The annual Wanee Festival announced their initial set of artists today with the old-school heavy hitters of Allman Brothers Band and Furthur taking lead on the lineup this year. Both bands will be performing two nights so the sit-in potential on this festival is absolutely insane. That's obviously what the promoters go for when they [...]

We've got an eclectic confederation of folks keeping the wheels turning at LMB NOLA and we hope you enjoy reading our memories from the year in music. Continue on below as we recount our [...]

Chicago's Aliveone bar and music venue will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Saturday night with a special group put just together just for the occasion called Motorboat. This "supergroup" features Umphrey's McGee bassist Ryan Stasik and guitarist Brendan Bayliss, Cody Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars on drums and moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey. Tickets for this private event are not for sale and can be won through raffles at the venue tonight and tomorrow.

Still promoting their newest album Keys To The Kingdom , local (basically) neo-blues heroes North Mississippi Allstars play Minglewood Hall the day after Thanksgiving, Friday the 25th. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson along with long-time bassist Chris Chew have now been at it as the Allstars for 15 years, 10 of those as a full time band. You know this band kills it live, so come see them on Friday. Previous Show of the Week and killer band [...]
