Today is kind of a blast of 3 artists/songs that I have been listening to the past week due to recommendations and obvious discoveries. Soo then, BAM , quick hitters! ~~ First off, Northcote is Matt Goud out of Victoria BC (that's in Canada folks) and I discovered him as he is on the bill for the " Prairie Roots Revue " tour that Zachary Lucky updated me on as he is also part of this great [...]
Raw Sugar Cafe was pretty busy on October 22, 2011. It was definitely a hot and demand show with The Wooden Sky and Northcote . Those who was lucky to attend this sold out show was in for a treat. The show started off with Victoria's Northcote . It was their first time playing in Ottawa. I have to say that I really enjoyed Northcote. Music is very indie folk rock with some hint of [...]
Listening to Northcote's latest album is kind of like listening to the first solo record Sarah Harmer put out some 12 years ago. There's something about back-porch acoustic guitar song craft that just feeds the soul. It's comforting, it puts a smile on your face. Is it groundbreaking? No. Quite the opposite, I suppose: it's built on a very solid footing. Matt Goud has been around the block a few times. His recent acoustic guitar-slinging folk project has previously produced a flawless EP, Borrowed Chords and Tired Eyes , that perfectly sets the stage for this full [...]
by teepoo Northcote is Victoria based Matt Gould who was actually born in Saskatchewan. Could you believe he used to be in a hardcore band? Now in Northcote his voice carries the same passion but in a more melodic way. Here's a track from their April 19th release Gather No Dust called Free Tonight where Matt's voice just naturally melts with the gentle guitar chords and the heart beating drums. After being at this show on April 29, 2011. I headed off to Mavericks for the Prairie Scene . Excited to see Library Voices live! The band sure bought the fun into the Prairie Scene with their blend of alterna-pop Haven't seen them since last year where I was at NXNE. I didn't get to see Northcote but people told me that the band was great. Surprised to see Mavericks full of people! [...]
Matt Goud of Northcote wears a fiery beard that occupies the better part of his face and ages his twice over. But if you look at his eyes you can see there is still a soul of a young man swimming in the whiteness, a kind soul. He's from Regina and formerly of the hardcore band Means and The Emerson Letters. His debut EP 'Borrowed Chords, Tired Eyes' is something definitive of where he's at in life, with the kind of folk and Americana that comes out of years of playing music loud and aggressive. Sooner or later, you're going [...]
"We, like, changed our name too. We're like 'Rage Against The Sewing Machine'. We're all about anger, and fashion." If you're in Australia, you may have heard this. It's all over Triple J and I'm sure is getting a bit of play on community radio. especially in Melbourne. The guys name is The Bedroom Philosopher and he's a comedy fella and has been doing the Melbourne scene for a fair few years now. Some of you may remember a track called "I'm So Post Modern" from a few years ago...it's the same dude. The [...]
Friday night we checked out Goodnight Owl at the Wesley Anne in Northcote. Was a great little gig. Well…actually…it was pretty loud, intense, and chair dance inducing. More on that later though. About a month or so ago I got sent an EP by Goodnight Owl. I posted one of their tracks, Maps & Compasses and a few people commented on how they liked it and how it kind of blew them away. It blew me away too. The whole EP did actually. Eddie (singer and guitar) has this knack of writing really nice [...]

LOWLAKES
Lovely. It's Sunday, and tomorrow's a public holiday down here in Victoria. And although it doesn't effect me personally (I work two days a week), it's good to know that next week will feel a little shorter. And something pretty suitable for an extended weekend is some real atmospheric soundscapey indie rock from Melbourne lads [...]
