Internal Sun - MindCoat Internal Sun is the audiovisual project of Antwerp based duo Andrew ‘Chi’ Claes & VJ Natché. The two producers pride themselves on exploring the realms of cymatics - the study of visible sound and vibration – and delivering a highly improvised take on the intricate live acts of such pioneers as Nosaj Thing, Amon Tobin, and Flying Lotus. MindCoat is the debut track from their upcoming self-titled EP. The release is due out on March 11 and you can preview it [...]

Dusky new 47-minute Ryan Hemsworth mix for FADER , highlighting all the incredible breadth of his influence: from the usual suspects like Shlohmo , Juj and Nosaj Thing to Boyz II Men and a pitch-shifted Jojo . Be sure to keep an ear out for a few hints about his impending debut LP, as well as an endearingly minimal revision of Broken Social Scene 's classic " Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl " around the 16 minute mark — a piece that dates all the way back to Hemsworth's high school years. Download below, hit the jump for the [...]
FADER Mix: Ryan Hemsworth “Ottawa, Ontario’s—and maybe North America’s—fastest rising remixer, Ryan Hemsworth, recorded his FADER mix between tours of Europe and the US . “It’s kind of a sad mix,” he said, explaining, “I had post-Paris depression.” Eschewing the frenetic, wide-grinning pace of previous work, Hemsworth lets these songs—seemingly taken from the goldmine pile of CDs one finds in their teenage bedroom after a long time away—stretch and breathe. “I’m trying to be a little more patient,” he says. A download and tracklist are below; pay close attention to the surprisingly sexy Broken Social [...]

LA-based dreamscape engineer Nosaj Thing plays a Noise Pop 2013 pre-party this Thursday at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Bay Area soundsmith Giraffage also plays, and there will be DJ sets by Joaquin Bartra , Chad Salty , and Brogan Bentley going on throughout the building's many fascinating rooms. It's a special edition of the weekly NightLife party hosted by the Academy, and it looks like [...]

When we were asked to choose an award for Blog 6 Music, we banged our heads together and only one thought dropped out. Whilst we still get as excited as anyone about getting sweaty down the front of rock shows, and losing the power to stand up straight by bass bins across the country, increasingly our taste is being defined by the output of our headphones. We wear them sitting, whilst reading, as we walk, on the morning commute, staring at the other humans and pondering their back story. We soundtrack our very existence in our own [...]

This one slipped under my radar yesterday, but Stussy put together a great lil' feature honoring the legacy of J Dilla. He would have turned 39 yesterday and, recognizing that, Stussy reached out to some artists to share their favorite tracks from the late great Detroit native. These include Los Angeles producer Nosaj Thing, acclaimed journalist Jeff Weiss, and the don of album art, Jeff Jank. Peep some of their picks below. The full feature is at Stussy . Nosaj Thing A Tribe Called Quest – "Find A Way" -Lucky to be [...]

LA's Jason Chung aka Nosaj Thing put out one of our favorite LP's of the young year with his sophomore effort for Innovative Leisure, Home. Last week the label took over Boiler Room and Mr. Chung headlined. The set is made up almost entirely of the producer's own productions, namely stuff from his record. Check the video below. Nosaj Thing just released his fantastic sophomore album Home and recently stopped by the LA Boiler Room for a victory lap. He's known for his wicked light show that popped up on his tour after Drift and even though those visuals aren't here, it's still a pretty awesome video. They even tossed in some video treatment to make it a little more engaging than the typical webcam affair. In the short 26 minute set he runs through material from both albums along with some goodies from FlyLo, Burial, and even [...]

Welcome to another edition of me posting once a month, because it's just better for everyone this way. This month's theme is songs recommended via Twitter (maybe I've used this one already?). When I'm at work, I read the twitter throughout the day and when people I know with fantastic musical tastes post links to songs, I usually favorite them to listen to later and then forget to do that. Until today. All of the songs posted below have been discovered via Twitter recommendations, complete with the actual tweet thanks to the fancy embed functionality of Twitter.com, because I'm probably [...]

2009 is the year where I rekindled my love for music blogging . It's also the first time in years where I actually wrote about music without an attachment to salary or advertising/revenue expectations. B logging is supposed to be enjoyable, and it is, again. If there's music I'm going to post it's because I love it, or at least really like it enough to share with my friends and readers. If there's a show I'm attending it's because I want to be there, not because I have to be there. [...]
Musically speaking, Los Angeles was a much different place in 2009. Flying Lotus' 20072s album-length love letter to the city still had enough of a hold on the electronic landscape to define almost anything even tangentially related to the city's ultimate proving ground, the North Broadway club night, Low End Theory. Brainfeeder, Anticon, and Alpha Pup amongst others released a generation of LPs between '08 and '10 from artists like Lorn, Teebs, and Baths that came to define a whole movement of left-field hip-hop with influences spaning the Atlantic loosely (and lamely) termed glitch hop. And you couldn't start a [...]
