Early Lines in St. Louis, MO 2004. Any music lover can attest to the fact that one of life's great rewards is the discovery of an artist or sound that takes the wind out of you. For me, my introduction to Early Lines was more like a ceaseless series of kicks to the body. Their 2nd full-length album, 2001's Hate The Living, Love The Dead possesses an immediacy and intensity that is quite rare when compared to the modern musical landscape. The band's sounds and messages were inspired [...]
It's Sunday again; today we huddle together, join hands and receive mass. And by "mass" I mean massive amounts of good music, from yours truly. Is "receive mass" even proper English? I don't know the answer to that question because I am Das Juden. Also, I've been throwing back mimosas and Jim Beam/Coke ever since I got off work at seven o'clock. We squeezed in a game of Apples to Apples before True Blood and Hung tonight. Watching those shows made me pine for the days when Sopranos and Six Feet Under [...]
Kinda an interesting weekend upon us, now that it's the end of the day on Friday and all. While there's a lot happening early next week, the weekend's kinda dry as big, big shows go. Anyway, onto... After seeing Nouns Group last month , and enjoying the hell out of it, I had to find out more about this band. Upon doing a little research and briefly exchanging pleasantries with frontman Christopher Mosley, here's what I know: Nouns Group formed in 2005 following the dissolution of Early Lines . The band was created with a desire to try the often dubious combination of harsh music with strings, making use of a baritone guitar (in lieu of bass,) along with electric violin, guitar and drums. Nouns Group recorded an EP in November 2007 [...]

Remember the first time you saw this picture? And you thought some kids in the 80's took drugs before their yearbook photo? Ya, that was a good moment, a moment when HEALTH arrived, and they haven't left or stopped touring since. They have toured with Crystal Castles , done a ton of Austin dates with Daniel Francis Doyle, and played about 15 shows last SXSW. HEALTH is better than the average noise rock/disco remix kids for a few reasons: bling t-shirts and other assorted fashions, the above picture, the use of all capital [...]

The two patriotic, dog loving gentlemen above make up the experimental rock duo Transmography . They are not new to the scene, they have been kicking ass for a hot minute- and are going to be opening up for HEALTH this Friday, July 25 at Emo's. I first saw these guys at the Above the Radar show this most recent SXSW thanks to Lawrence (thanks for TheDeathSet too, by the way), and was blown away with their energy and the amount of noise they could make.
