When he isn't drumming for Now, Now, Brad Hale works his electro-pop magic as Sombear . Though relegated as a side project, 2013 could be the year of the Sombear. He's received the blessing of indie all-father Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie), who will be releasing Hale's debut album, Love You In The Dark , via his Trans- Records label on July 23rd. Hale just released the LP's eponymous track, which plays like a nostalgic cross between Postal Service and Imogen Heap. Take a listen below. [...]
Tweet We're different at SGTMT , and our mothers say that's a good thing. (Good things also come in small packages. It's what's inside that counts. And winning isn't everything). Whilst everyone else is off listening to the brand new record, released today, from two gallic robots, we've set up camp with a cup of tea in front of the turntable in the Listening Room at SGTMT Headquarters and we're listening to a record that came out last year. New music is great. Without it, well, there would [...]

Minneapolis-based indie rock trio Now, Now played at Lincoln Hall last Monday, and when they took the stage, it was like the place was made for them. With a room chock full of machine-generated smoke, shifting colorful lights, and Now, Now ’s gorgeous music, I can’t begin to imagine a better start to the week. Now, Now started off the set with ‘Prehistoric’, which – full confession – is a personal favorite of mine, so I’m biased when I say it was a great way to begin the show. Many of their songs [...]

Last Thursday, I was cordially invited to see Minneapolis' now relatively established indie rock crew Now, Now (formerly Now, Now Every Children). After a series of opening-set tours, and a spot on Jimmy Fallon, they've return to Denver on their second headlining tour, their first in a few years. I picked up their first release back in '08 and found it nothing short of charming and heartwarming, and was excited to see how their new material would stand up live. After two openers who did nothing but cause concern for the outcome of [...]

Frank Yang Understand that I am in no way, shape, or form complaining, but I was pretty surprised when it was announced that Bob Mould would be playing The Horseshoe this past Friday night. Not that one legendary artist doesn't deserve a legendary venue, but considering that his profile arguably higher than its been in years thanks to a 2012 that included the 20th anniversary Sugar reissues and tour, the publication of his memoirs , and his best-received new album in some time with Silver Age , to [...]

Make sure you catch Now, Now live now, now that have more tour dates. Minneapolis trio Now, Now have announced April/May co-headline tour with Trans- Records label mates The Lonely Forest. Now, Now...

Minneapolis trio Now, Now, are excited to announce their April/May co-headline tour with Trans- Records label mates The Lonely Forest. The tour follows dates with Minus The Bear and Circa Survive, as well select gigs opening for Bob Mould as his personally invited guests this February and March. Now, Now are hitting the ground running this year after an incredible 2012 that saw the band make their late night TV debut on Jimmy Fallon, play to sold out crowds during their first headline tour of the UK, and their sophomore album Threads win numerous accolades including a selection [...]

The SOTO inbox is always full of cool stuff that never gets to see the light of day on the actual site, and I’d like to change that. So, every Friday I’ll be posting the best album streams and videos that were sent my way during the week. Take a scroll and find something worth remembering. FULL ALBUM STREAMS Pillowfight - Self Titled FIDLAR - Self Titled Ra Ra Riot - Beta Love He's My Brother She's My [...]

Now, Now picked the slow opener for last year's Threads as the next song to give the video treatment to. Led with a slew of drunken and out of focus visuals, the video eventually emerges from it's blurred slumber before abruptly coming to a halt.
Every once in a while, in a mini-miscarriage of justice, an album will go straight to a FADER editor's heart without ever making it into The FADER itself—Now, Now's early-2012 Threads LP was one of ... read more
Here I am, left to go last once again with my favorite songs of the year. I feel as though I listened to more in 2012 than in any other year, and my musical experience was all the better for it. More music means more candidates, which admittedly makes lists like this one tougher. But [...]

As I've mentioned on many occasions, I keep a running playlist throughout the year. You've seen bits and pieces of it here but as 2012 comes to a close, here is the final product. Full of the singles that I listened to on repeat to the tracks I put on every mixtape this year and now with the added bonus of being influenced by the year end lists of my friends and contemporaries. It's all over the place genre-wise, but I think it is a pretty solid collection. Amanda Palmer - [...]

Falling in love with new music is one life's simple pleasures and 2012 was a fantastic year of discovery for me. I've already featured a few of my new favorites this year, including Bright Moments, HAERTS, Porcelain Raft, and Vacationer (just to name a few), and today i'd like to highlight a few more. But first I need to give credit where credit is due. If it weren't for the following music outlets, my music repertoire would be far less exciting. Big thanks to All Songs Considered , Big Hassle , EARMILK , Girlie Action , Head [...]
There's something really lovely about an EP: a short collection of songs, not quite an album, not quite a single. Here's 12 of our favorites for 2012. Bangers - Good Livin' Bangers - Good Good Livin' Frightened Rabbit - State Hospital Frightened Rabbit - State Hospital Great Cynics - In The Valley Great Cynics - 14 Coleman St [...]
