...soihadto... performing at the Tipsy Teapot (photo: RJWphotos-Flickr) There are some good people working hard to establish a music scene in Greenville, and for selfish reasons, I want them to succeed. We are college town that needs to have a good indie/college music scene. We will never be Athens, but we can aspire to be! We have two venues that host a lot of the good gigs in town: The Tipsy Teapot (aka Tipsy) and the Spazz Haus . We also have a great bluegrass venue 10 miles away called the Fountain [...]
Today's 'Introducing' feature is a look back at all the bands we covered in February, plus a mixtape for you to download and a competition to win that mixtape on an actual cassette tape (look above...or below!). February was an amazing month of discoveries for us. Lots of hiddem gems and bands for the future! Not only have they all made some amazing songs (hence we covered them) but they were kind enough to donate a song for you to download. [...]

Some bands are easy to write about. I can talk influences, or compare the band to a feeling or god forbid, a season. In the case of Nuclear Power Pants , I'll start with a video: If, after watching this video, you're still confused - head over to their Myspace page ( click here ). The background image and name should explain things better. The band formed in 2003 at Purchase College in New York State, [...]

In case you don't already know: Dan Deacon will take your idea of live music, light it on fire, and throw it out into the unexpected void beyond to fend for itself. Don't walk into the show expecting anything because most likely whatever you would have expected will just be utterly trampled and ripped to shreds by the end of the night. And I mean that in the best way possible- just be a willing captive. To make up for his cancellation at FYF Fest, Dan played the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock last [...]

You are always guaranteed one thing when it comes to good old Dan Deacon, you will be entertained. Thanks again to Josh for sending these our way. NUCLEAR POWER PANTS Click HERE to see more pictures from Nuclear Power Pants DAN DEACON Click [...]

Dan Deacon always has some crazy game up his sleeve. So are we really surprised that he's announced a contest that involves cartoon characters? Here's the deal: Deacon is about to go on tour (in his vegetable oil bus, duh) with Nuclear Power Pants . But he wants to give back to the people. So he asked his buds at Post Typography (a.k.a. Bruce Willen and Nolen Strals of Double Dagger ) to design him a poster featuring 243 cartoon characters. Your task? Use the forms provided here to identify all [...]

MUSIC NEWS - Dan Deacon is heading back out on tour next week with his buddies Nuclear Power Pants, traveling once again in his veggie oil bus (they'll need veggie oil this time too, same offer stands from the last tour if you're able to help provide them with veggie oil along the way). We've listed the complete, final, updated tour dates below. To celebrate the tour, Post Typography designed an amazing new poster (at [...]

I am heading back out on tour next week with the awesome band Nuclear Power Pants - they're traveling once again in his veggie oil bus (they'll need veggie oil this time too, same offer stands from the last tour if you're able to help provide them with veggie oil along the way). MP3: Nuclear Power Pants - Graveyard Their live shows are absurdist carnival freakshows from the surreal and paranoid tail-end of an acid binge. The spectacle, when you are experiencing it, makes the music feel ancillary. This is a group that self-avowedly began in the trappings of concise, party-driven songcraft awash with feedback and siamese vocalists. How, then, do Nuclear Power Pants possibly transition this to recorded medium? Well, in today's climate you roll with it, as noise and absurdity are approaching the level of ubiquity in music [...]
After spending many months doing the whole "getting on a vegetable-oiled school bus to tour the country with a huge ensemble before hanging out with Deerhunter and No Age for a few select dates" type of thing, Dan Deacon is ready to scale things back a bit. Beginning October 1st, the Baltimore electro head will launch a six-week solo trek. As he puts it in the issued press release: "Solo tour: expansion of my floor show set, immersive experience, heavy emphasis on visuals." The dates run through November [...]

Dan Deacon has announced dates for an extensive North American tour set to kick off this October. Deacon will embark on the jaunt October 1st in Chapel Hill and will play dates in several major cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Toronto. Supporting the musician on all dates will be Nuclear Power Pants . Dan Deacon Tour dates: 10-01 Chapel Hill, NC [...]

Walking into the MICA North Ave. parking lot was like stepping into an alternate universe to me. Accustomed to the outstandingly complete normalcy of Carroll County living, everything involved at Saturday's Whartscape was akin to alien scenery in my eyes. If anyone attending knew who I was or what I looked like-and you probably didn't, you crazy ass MICA kids, I apologize for probably having stared just a tad too much. Whispers For Wolves : The third or fourth thing I laid my eyes upon, and I saw plenty, [...]
