Swims A few weeks ago I've been contacted by Pierrick from Distile Records , an up and coming Paris/NY label focusing on instrumental/noise/math rock. I listened to one of their bands, SWIMS and right away the amazing Claypoolesque bass-tapping hit me. After listening to most of the label back-catalogue, I'm amazed with the quality of their roster. Planets Sacramento's SWIMS is a twopiece with the bass sensation Paul Slack, who also plays for another amazing duo Planets once [...]

Post-rock form Sacramento, CA. O! The Joy proofs that there is a future for leftfield West Coast bands with an East Coast sound. Zen Mode is a deceptive title for a hard hitting album with constantly shifting polyrhythms. Mix the Byrds' guitar tone with half a pint of Sonic Youth and a pinch of The Residents and you get the picture. Adventurous college radio jocks will love these guys. O! The Joy : Justin Goings: drums, cymbals, polyrhythms Jason Ellis: guitars, effects, samples Kurt Travis: [...]
As the musical world descends on Austin, we sit in our crowded office to begin the process of delivering music to those of you not headed for the Texan oasis. Who needs to be among all that live music, all that BBQ, and all that free booze? Yeah, we wish we were there too. At least EVP has some music to share to help us all get over our heartache. O! the Joy (from Zen Mode ) "The Fault Is Not Mine" [...]

Svo segja spekingar að þetta band sé það næsta stærsta í rokkinu. Ég er nú orðinn svo mikill linkúkur í seinni tíð að ég hef orðið ekki hugmynd um hvað þykir gott né vont í rokkinu í dag. Ég verð þó að játa að math-rock og prog taktarnir hjá O! The Joy , sem líkja má við sambland af Yes , King Crimson , At The Drive In og The Mars Volta , eru mér persónulega vel boðlegir og efa ég ekki að þeir strjúki einnig ljúflega hlustir harðhausa jafnt og indiekrútta. Fyrsta plata [...]

Fans of Do Make Say Think, Hella and Amon Düül take note of the band's upcoming album Zen Mode due March 11th from French label Distile Records. Sacramento's rock scene has long been a source for amazing bands. O! The Joy is the next big thing to come from this city of indie rock angels. This atypical band, born from the ashes of Mister Metaphor (former project of Justin Goings, O! The Joy's drummer), succeeds in creating a perfect harmony between a wide range of genres, from kraut-rock to emo. [...]

If Built to Spill and The Mars Volta spawned a child, it might sound something along the lines of Sacramento's O! The Joy, but never long enough to get too caught up in the aforementioned names. Then again, there is ample evidence O! The Joy have explored the kosmische scene as well on their new record Zen Mob , here & there philosophically echoing Faust's manner of carrying rare tangents to fruition. Having said that, maybe I'm just high, but my favorite tune on the record, "Under The Radar," really reminds me of Joe Jackson, especially on the expansive [...]

O! The Joy [ MySpace ] are a refreshing, jangly indie rock project born following the dissolution of Mister Metaphor . The Sacramento-based band moves refreshing guitar grooves through a rich field of rhythm; think of the most passionate classical guitar composition you might have heard and pass it through the fingertips of indie rockers and you might get something like this.
