The last time this reviewer saw this much Leonard Cohen music, it was a pain in the arse, literally. The contrast between the old Point Depot that night during an often inspiring three and a half hour marathon tribute set (that resulted in a numb posterior) with the wonderful layout in the new O2 could not have been greater. It was ace. I know they are a bit tetchy about people making recordings at gigs, but these lo-fi, wobbly moments really shouldn't be anything to be concerned about. It's gig time and tomorrow night I see the Pets for the fourth time live in concert. The first time was in 1999 in The Point in Dublin (now reborn as the O2 incidentally) avec the Mexican Ex (henceforth known as t'ExMex). It wasn't a sellout and they barely filled half the venue. Oopsies! They were pretty good though. The second time was in London at the Astoria (RIP) for their Release tour. Again with t'ExMex. Leonard Cohen is to return to Ireland this summer for three gigs. The legendary songwriter will play The O2, Dublin, on July 19 and 20, and The Odyssey Arena, Belfast, on July 26. His dates last year at The Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, were heralded as "a cultural event of Biblical dimensions", so the new dates are expected to sell out ultra-fast. The tour dates have been announced and it seems that Michael will be in London the entirity of July. Given that the Millennium Dome is now styled as the O2 Arena, it might seem a little late to complain about the creep of sponsorship across the venue, but this does seem a step too far : Coca-Cola has signed a sponsorship deal with O2 arena-owners AEG Europe to become "official pouring rights partner" at the London venue. What, exactly, is a "pouring rights partner", official or otherwise?

Kings of Leon officially opened the O2 on Friday night and by all accounts, the band, the set and the venue were all highly praised. The State review team weren't present as we were locked in a DJ Battle Royale at our Christmas Party with Fight Like Apes and Super Extra Bonus Party which went swimmingly (locked being the operative word). You know, their budget for the tour couldn't have been large and they didn't get many people to work on it, but this is one of the fiercest entrances I have ever seen.
