Robert Semmer On the list of ideal days on which to announce a tour itinerary, there's not many occasions better than the day the album you're actually going to promote goes on sale. And so yesterday, with the official release of their latest full-length Monomania , Atlanta's Deerhunter have announced the itinerary for their Fall tour behind it. It's an outing that brings them to The Phoenix in Toronto on September 12, and that leg of the tour also includes support from Marnie Stern , who herself released [...]

Graphics By Madeline Rosemurgy Not even a perpetual torrent of rain could extinguish the good vibes at the inaugural Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta over the weekend. The first day of the two-day festival (Saturday) saw crowds build to around 8,000 by the end of the long, messy day, and by Sunday afternoon, the festival sold out. The 28 bands that played the festival were greeted by over 14,000 keyed up fans all within the confines of the shiny (not anymore), new Historic Old Fourth Ward Park and the adjoining Masquerade Music [...]

Photos by Luis Ruiz The acts that performed at Glasslands Gallery last Thursday meshed perfectly with the new cylinder installation, syncing each beat and intricate guitar riff with a corresponding light shift. The opening bands, particularly Celestial Shore , provided a hefty, well-crafted mix of experimental noise rock, bringing the crowd closer to the stage with each song. Oberhofer began his set with new songs from his recently released EP, NOTALGIA , performing to a crowd that seemed to [...]

This weekend marks the inaugural run for Atlanta's brand new Shaky Knees Festival , and I'm stoked to be there to experience it! The two day festival will be held in a newly completed park next to a prominent Atlanta music venue, The Masquerade . The schedule and lineup is a bit light compared to other festival heavy-hitters ( Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Hangout ), but for a first year festival, the lineup is pretty amazing. The schedule is 12-11 Saturday, May 4, and 12-10 Sunday, May 5. Nearly every act scheduled to [...]

Brooklyn's Life Size Maps have a pretty huge slot to fill with their warbled noise pop— they're on before Oberhofer and Celestial Shore at Glasslands this Thursday (5/2), so their airtight grooves had better stay that way. Mike McKeever's deliberate vocal style and heavily effected, meandering guitar serve as fitting centerpieces for their proprietary brand of post-postmodern rock, and with a locked-in rhythm section there's little to fault them on. With a name that came from a stoned friend's musings and a sound that's difficult to pin down to any one corner, this trio [...]
After experimenting with three formats for the Monthly Mix - MP3 zip, Spotify playlist, Soundcloud set, etc. - in March we finally came upon a solution that pleased everyone: all of them. And so, for you, here is the month's music, whittled down to its very best, via each of the aforementioned mediums, limited only by its availability on said mediums. This means a 13-track zip, a 12-track Spotify playlist, and a whopping 54-track Soundcloud stream. And somehow, falling through all the cracks and not represented on any is one of the month's finest: The National's straight-to-Youtube " [...]

The buzzy boy with a goofy name, Brad Oberhofer , has been through the ringer once or twice. The New York (by way of Tacoma) musician found success last year with his first release Time Capsules II , even sharing the stage with Sleigh Bells and Twin Sister. His next release, the EP Notalgia, traces his own path from pain to self-awareness along with the listener, plummeting to bottom before looking up to see a glimmer of light. Many of Oberhofer’s lyrics circle around emotional (or physical) [...]

by Bill Pearis DOWNLOAD : Splashh - Sun Kissed Bliss (MP3) Splashh As mentioned before , UK band Splashh (that's two Hs) are currently on the road with Generationals and that tour hits NYC on Monday (4/22) at Bowery Ballroom . That show is sold out but if you'd like another chance at catching Splashh, we are pleased to report that the band are playing an early BrooklynVegan-presented show [...]

There has been a lot of new music out there lately and its difficult to pick just one to continually listen to. Instead, I'll give you a list of some of the songs and albums I've been listening to recently. Instead of watching news coverage of an event that will just enrage and sadden you, sit back and listen to some new music. Surfer Blood - "Demon Dance" I've always been a fan of this band since their debut album, Astrocoast , but [...]

photo by Alex Crick Today, Canadian electro group A Tribe Called Red have unveiled a previously unreleased song they worked on with Das Racist for an imcomplete LP. Unfortunately, Das Racist broke up last year, while they were working on that album, so it probably won't see the light of day. The track features verses from both Heems and Kool A.D. Notalgia is out 4/23 via Glassnote.
Later this month, the Brooklyn-via-Tacoma indie rocker Brad Oberdorfer and his self-named band will follow up last year's album Time Capsules II with a new EP titled Nostalgia . We already posted one of its songs, " Earplugs ," and now here's another new one called "Together / Never." This one is a spirited and brightly produced rager, and it's streaming below. Read More...

Get nostalgic over Oberhofer. Oberhofer has revealed two songs from his forthcoming EP, NOSTALGIA. The new EP arrives via Glassnote on April 23rd. Listen to "You + Me (In The Future" and "Earplugs"...

Oberhofer 's got a gift for melody. On Friday, May 3rd, Washington, DC will get the chance to see Brad and co.'s raw pop rock in action at U Street Music Hall . We've got a pair of tickets to give away for the show. What do you have to do to win? Oberhofer has decided to go with the deliberately misspelled NOTALGIA as the title of their upcoming LP. We want to know what your favorite instance of ignored grammar in music is. Whether it be the vowel-less band du jour [...]

Massive news stories are always a bit weird. They're especially wierd when you're writing about something as internationally irrelevant as new music. Do you ignore the topic that's been clogging up your twitter feed, inbox and Facebook all day or do you slog on dutifully and cram an awkward reference into whatever it is you're writing about. We're going to strike an uncomfortable balance between the two and hand you over to another new track off Oberhofer's 'Notalgia' Lp. Worth a spin.

On April 23rd, 2013 Oberhofer will release 'NOTALGIA' via Glassnote Records featuring 5 brand new tracks. "Earplugs" is the first track available from this new collection of material on April 2nd, 2013. You can hear "Earplugs" by scrolling down! Tracklisting: 1. You & Me (Still Together In The Future) 2.
