After a ton of thought and internal bickering, we're finally releasing our year end lists. It took a good amount of time, and a lot of thought to figure all of this out, but I'm seriously happy with the lists we've put together. 2010 has been called a flop of a year for music, but when it comes to the EP/73 category, I really don't agree. The follow are 15 of our favorite EPs and 73 releases of the year. Keep in mind, this is just our opinion . Don't take it personal that your favorite artist isn't [...]

This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it goes up on the site, but sometimes I get backlogged and can't get through writing up pieces [...]
Last week we premiered yet another new playlist mix: The Sunday 25 Mix (aka, S-25 Mix). The mix featured 25 songs from any genre and any time in music. We were thrilled with the results - you guys just ate it up. So, it's definitely going to be a staple of IRC, indefinitely. The S-25 [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

I saw 26 bands at CMJ this year, and I saw one of those bands four times in thirty-six hours. I followed them around New York City because I felt like I had no choice; they got better every time I saw them play. I felt like missing one of their shows, even one, would be a mistake. They played twelve shows and I went to one-third. Sometimes I think I should have tried to go to more. This band is called Oberhofer and they are a force to be reckoned with. ![[Indie/rock] Oberhofer – Should Have Taken Acid With You](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2989128_lg.jpg)
Oberhofer , the synthy indie-pop 4-piece from Tacoma really has an intriguing sound. The lyrics of this track are fitting, considering the first 15 seconds are pretty trippy. But after the sounds of nature and heavy synth fade out, the steady beat of a kick-drum welcomes in a catchy indie-pop guitars and a more recognizable song structure. Their ability to incorporate simple guitar riffs, synthesizers, a steady bassline and distorted lyrics really make for an original and enjoyable track. There's not much info out there about these guys, but you can pick up their 73, o0O0o0O0o, here . [...]

Oberhofer took Neon Indian's chillwave masterpiece, "Should Have Taken Acid With You" and turned down the lights on it, transforming it into a club ready track that still maintains the hazy feeling of the original.
Oberhofer is the eponymous project of Brad Oberhofer who has previously hit the blogosphere with the track 'Away Frm U'. Now he has covered Neon Indian's 'Should Have Take Acid With You', he keeps the lo-fi and synths of the track but keeps away from the disaffected vocals...
The original version of Neon Indian 's "Should Have Taken Acid With You" is tinged with a certain pang. You can hear it in his voice, as each line ends on an atoning note. Now listen to the version done by Oberhofer . Using his unique trademark fluctuations, Oberhofer brings a sense of immediacy to this after-thought. Stereogum describes the difference eloquently: "In the end, Alan is sweetly acknowledging a mistake was made. Brad is aching to make sure that mistake is never made again." Well put! Download both below. [...]

Its only been his birthday for an hour but I'm up so I figure I might as well post David's birFday mix right now. I'm pretty proud of it, I'd say its a bit more accessible than the last few I've made, it even has two rap songs! I gave this one less to time to digest before posting than I usually do but I don't think its any less thought out than usual. One other thing worth mentioning: in general if I'm really into an album it never ends up on these [...]

Film was simply not enough to celebrate the opening night party of the 2010 edition of the Zero Film Festival, a festival dedicated to the works of self-financed filmmakers. What better way to ring in the festival than with three bands, free alcohol (with a suggested donation of $3), and an after-hours DJ dance party? After all, a party is not much of one without music and booze. The first act of the night was current buzz band Oberhofer , fresh off a series of well-received CMJ gigs. Fronted by recent [...]
Last Thursday night, I had the pleasure of seeing Oberhofer and Twin Sister open for the Morning Benders at First Unitarian Church. The show was overall magnificent. Oberhofer took the stage first, starting the night off with a wild and wonderful performance of several songs from his EP. Oberhofer is the project of 20-year-old NYU student Brad Oberhofer from Tacoma, Washington. His sound is a unique product of many components: xylophone compliments beautiful guitar melodies, lyrics delivered in a mixture of whistling, singing and shrieking, and driving drum [...]

Throughout this year's CMJ, NYC bloggers, indie labels, and other determined do-it-yourselfers curated countless showcases at spaces of all types, with unofficial showcases much like the "counter-SXSW" events that happen in Austin every spring. This was all in addition to the official CMJ music marathon's panels and showcases - an institution within the music industry since inception in 1980. The result? A win-win situation for all: if you had a badge, CMJ ruled. If you didn't have a badge, CMJ ruled. For me, this year's highlights included both official showcases and unofficial DIY shows, [...]
