Former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh passed away in a Chicago hotel room over the weekend. Welsh was with the band during the period after original bassist Matt Sharp had left the band, appearing on The Green Album and playing on Weezer's subsequent tour. He left the group in 2001, citing a mental and physical breakdown, and began to pursue painting. MUSIC NEWS - Chicago, IL police report that former Weezer bassist and artist Mikey Welsh was found dead in a Chicago hotel room. Police spokeswoman Laura Kubiak said Welsh was due to check out of the Raffaello Hotel at 1 pm Saturday. But when he didn't, hotel staff went to his room and later entered it. Kubiak said Welsh, 40, was found unconscious and not breathing. Kubiak said Sunday the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. MUSIC NEWS - Bert Jansch , the Scottish folk musician and founding member of the band Pentangle, died in London on Wednesday, British media reported at 67. Jansch was suffering from cancer and recently cancelled an Edinburgh concert due to health issues. He was born in Glasgow in 1943 and became well known during the London folk revival during the 1960s as an accomplished acoustic guitar player. According to the Associated Press , the Scottish folk singer/guitarist and Pentangle co-founder Bert Jansch died this morning in London after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 67. Jansch was one of the most important figures in the late-'60s British folk revival, the same movement that produced Nick Drake. And like Drake, he was an absolute virtuoso of a guitarist, a man capable of picking out subtle and complex figures and making it look easy. Though she got started in the singing duo Mickey and Sylvia and eventually notched a hit, " Pillow Talk ," she's most famous for producing pioneering rap singles "The Message" (Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five) and "Rapper's Delight" (Sugar Hill Gang) during her career at Sugar Hill Records.
