Starting July off strong, ARZ rocked the house at Dante's in downtown Portland. Made up of lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Steve Adams and drummer/synthesizer-er Meryl Hale, the pair performed live along with some of their own pre-recorded tracks. The music was awesome and it sounded like a full-on, filled-out band. Big time. Hale advised us that ARZ is heavily influenced by 70s bands like Rush, Yes, and ELP. Last night I set out for the evening with few expectations. I was not familiar with any of the acts, had never visited the Columbia City Theater before, and the show had been brought to my attention only one day prior. Still, when asked if I would be interested in covering a Obscured By Clouds performance featuring three cameras and a laser show, I did not hesitate: "you had me at lasers." From the just-released album "Psycheclectic" by Portland Oregan Band Obscured By Clouds Obscured By Clouds steps out from behind all veils, preconceptions, or limitations here. This new music is a very eclectic amalgam holding potential for an introspective journey waiting for discovery. The entire album has an intriguingly measured intensity throughout.
