Kate Nash and her girl gang kicked off their West Coast tour at The Observatory on Thursday night.
Alt-J played a memorable sold out Localchella show at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA.

Photos and words by David Hall Was it really only back in September that I saw British experimental quartet Alt-J last roll through Orange County, drawing around 300 fans for an opening slot ahead of punk duo Blood Red Shoes at the tiny Constellation Room, the Observatory’s venue-within-a-venue? Seems like a lifetime longer, given the headway made by the band in the time that’s elapsed since then. Feats include nabbing a prestigious Mercury Prize for debut album, An Awesome Wave, plus multiple bill-topping turns at major concert spots like the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. I’d call [...]

Photos and words by Sam Saturday You could practically feel the desert in the air as The Faint and White Arrows teamed up to play the Observatory between their Coachella dates. In the process, White Arrows psyched up the crowd with cool jams, mostly from their full length Dry Land Is Not A Myth . Nebraskans The Faint turned around the cool vibe set by their opener with some glitchy throbbing rhythms. Their frenetic stage presence matched the energy of their songs, including favorites “Desperate Guys”, “The Geeks Were Right”, and “Agenda Suicide” and some brand [...]
Burger Records' sold-out event proves that a cohesive festival is possible when the people involved have shared incentives.

Photos and words by Brandon Winters With the final stage placement of a horse head mask and a bucket of ice cold beers, Deer Tick infested the stage at The Observatory. After opening acts Restavrant and The Shrills, the crowd raged from punk to country punk blues to a little country rock blues. The band pounded out a set that included everything from a little a cappella to classic Van Halen licks. The crowd joined in the constant shift of sounds by partaking in arm-around-shoulder singing, crowd surfing, and yes, opening a mosh pit. Deer Tick [...]

Photos and words by Leslie Kalohi Big props to Sean Bohrman and Lee Rickard of Burger Records for putting together Burgerama. With strong acts like Tijuana Panthers and Beach Party kicking things off, it was an easy decision for many to arrive early for Night One at The Observatory. Things were done right with 19 bands playing inside both the main room and the smaller Constellation Room, plus a BBQ outside, there was something to do/see/eat/drink at ALL times. And whether you enjoyed rock, surf, punk, hip-hop, or R&B (just to name a few of the [...]
Matt & Kim brought the party and tore it up in Orange County with a little help from Papa last Friday.
If you have been missing Deer Tick, who performed last spring at the El Rey Theatre, the Providence, Rhode Island, band will return next month! A last-minute show has been announced at the Observatory in Santa Ana on Sunday, March...
We were at The Observatory to catch the beauty and magic of Cold War Kids' first tour stop promoting Dear Miss Lonely Hearts.

Photos and words by Leslie Kalohi With a string of teaser dates in anticipation of the April 2nd release of Dear Miss Lonelyhearts , Cold War Kids impressed those lucky to be at OC’s Observatory with a fierce performance. Starting a 90-minute set with the new album’s title track, fans couldn’t contain their excitement at hearing these soon-to-be favorites. Although frontman Nathan Willett was few on words aside from song introductions off the new creation, the entire band managed to fully engage everyone in the venue with passionate musicianship. Little kicks, taps, and [...]

Love was in the air as Eels kicked off their tour in Santa Ana at the Observatory in support of their new album Wonderful, Glorious . With a nod to Run-DMC and Wes Anderson, Eels rocked their Adidas jumpsuits for a twenty-four song set that featured the band coming back out once the house lights had already been turned on and roadies were tearing down the stage. Nicole Atkins provided support with an assortment of soulful tunes. Check out the photos in the gallery above and the setlist below. Read More... [...]

Some new tech house tunes from Italy. Out in March. M.F.S: Observatory are Matthias Turchetti, Francesco Cozzolino, Salvatore Bifulco from Naples, Italy. Division is a funky bit of tech house. Goal is more bongoes house with that righteous sample from Pulp Fiction. The Alex Costa remix of Division takes things in a darker dance floor direction. The Metrophonique remix of Goal has steel drums that remind me of 90s Justin Robertson productions. Blurb: Cat For Lunch is back with DIVISION Ep from M.F.S: OBSERVATORY.

SMOG presents: Joker + Plastician @ The Observatory | Tickets Not too long ago when Fabricated approached Drew of SMOG to say "hello" and get some intel on what they had planned for the upcoming year, Drew replied with, "Just wait and see." Around that time Joker tweeted something to the affect of " USA NYE & January! " I had a gut feeling, but I wasn't sure. Now it's for sure and everyone in the LA/LB/OC area is buzzing with excitement. The last time he was here was for Beyond Wonderland. I don't [...]
