Picture by young@art ... Hey Cranes! It's Neil, ya know, long-lost AdventurerNeil, checkin' in with ya to say 'howdy!', and share some muzak (mmm...sweet, sweet muzak). As you may know, I enjoy my music like the cookie monster enjoys his dough... You guys are nazis, man! So yeah, sorry for being all sorts of wicked-absent and never posting... sad story: right as the last mixtapes week was kickin' off, my computer went kaput. Since then I've been busy, sure, but [...]
There seems to be a chunk of good music pouring out of Portland these days and it continues with Hosannas who are about to release TOGETHER via Tree Farm. They play rock music. That's about... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

This week's mix kicks off with one of my favorite new bands, LA's Kisses, except this time they're remixed by Active Child. Generationals follow suit with a splendid track off their upcoming Trust EP . Once again, Blackbird Blackbird is in on the action; here's a tune off his Seeing Suge collab with Emay and Star Slinger—grab their first single "Breaking" here . At the beginning of the year I was really into Australian electropop duo Empire Of The Sun. They're probably the most remixed group of the past few months but I still enjoy Andre Anjos' recently [...]

Time for another edition of "songs I marked to post months ago and never did until today". Our contestants today are Portland's very own Ocean Age , a fearsome fivesome that have a pretty neat sound that's a bit lo-fi, generally pretty upbeat and a little more on the experimental side, but all without being over the top in any one of those areas. In "Dalvik Tide", what I consider the strongest of the strong tracks on their Forest EP, the song actually sounds like the tides coming in, to the point where you can [...]
I have found that, more often than not, when we get emails about bands that the shorter the email is, the more I generally enjoy the bands' music. This isn't always true, but more often than not, the music more than makes up for the lack of words in the email. It shows a certain [...]
Over the last month or so I've been getting a good amount of emails from band members promoting their music, and you know what? A lot of it has been pretty damn good. Case and point: Yuri... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Ocean Age - Dalvik Tide Ocean Age - Hopscotch
Ocean Age wound up in daily inbox scour this evening, and have already brightened up my rainy sunday with their steady, blissed-out jams. From out of Portland, Oregon (home also to Menomena, M. Ward and the wonderful Yacht) Ocean Ages dropped a 27 minute, six track EP (LP?) named 'Forest' in February and took the time out to send it my way. The three guys and two girls give off faint echoes of Odawas and Fleet Foxes, but far more clean shaven, with steady beats and a repertoire of electro-organic folk sounds which hasten and fade [...]

We are super-stoked to have one of our favorite Portland bands, Church, keeping a tour diary. Huzzah! Wed September 23rd – Olympia, Wa – The Northern First day of the tour starts off well at The Northern, a new all-ages showspace in Olympia. This place is rad and efficient – all volunteer run, good sound, nice people! We were joined by our local favorites Ocean Age, who played a superb set full of soothing harmonies. Next, the Christopher Francis Trio sort of melted our faces off with an Iggy Pop meets [...]
