In doing some research for another story about the Aral Sea, I discovered that in 2000 the International Hydrographic Organization created a fifth ocean, the Southern Ocean, out of portions of the Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Pacific Ocean. The Southern Ocean completely surrounds Antarctica and extends from the coast of Antarctica north to 60 degrees south latitude. The Southern Ocean is now the fourth largest of the world's five oceans (after the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and Indian Ocean, but larger than the Arctic Ocean). Speak My Language John Maus , when he's taking time out from Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, has found the time to release some great solo records. 2007's Love is Real was described as 'an upbeat Joy Division' which isn't true but it gives you an idea of the sound. Like being deep in an an ocean of synths where everything echoes and everyone's sad. Do Your Best is a standout track and Too much Money is by far the most up-tempo track on the record.
