While I professed in my albums post that perhaps this wasn't the greatest year for albums, or at least it didn't have too many true classics, 2009 has been an incredible year for songs. I really had trouble culling this list down to only 100, which is definitely a lot of songs. Of course, when Spencer Krug's various bands take up over a dozen slots, it leaves little room for other things, but this was a really wonderful year. Even more shocking is the staggering list of great new albums expected out in 2010, but we'll save [...]

A playlist for 2009: the ten best tracks of the year! With 2009 fast coming to a close, every blog everywhere is scrambling to put together their best of lists. Obviously, this indie shuffle contributor is no different. I decided to pick the top ten songs I would put on a released in 2009 soundtrack. Think of this as your every own indie pop playlist spanning the twelve months. I tried to pick songs released at different times of the year, from back in February ( here we go magic ) to more recent [...]

They call Austin the live music capital of the world. What some folks might not realize is that we've also got an abundance of world-class DJ talent. Just about any night of the week you can head downtown and catch one of these dudes spinning the best music you've never heard. Tomorrow night you can catch six of them under one roof, as the Mohawk hosts Red Bull Locally Thrown, bringing together DJ Manny , DJ Orion , PREPMODE , DJ BigFace , Richard Gear & DJ JE to spin their own remixes of [...]

Sunday, September 27, 2009 Hello friends. This week I've got a new album from Austin's Monument To No One, plus a few notes on musical coincidences (i.e. a new band I'm excited about), how to cut through all the ACL bullshit (hello Leatherbag), some reissues (horray Octopus Project), and the top way to not get good press (sorry Deaf Ears). Let's get this show on the road: Monument To No One - Self Titled MTNO's debut LP captures the brazen guitar riffs and [...]

The Octopus Project cater to vinyl lovers with two re-issued LPs.

The Octopus Project just announced that their first two records are being re-released, but this time on vinyl. Peek-A-Boo Records will be putting out the two records from the The Octopus Project's on vinyl, which is both their 2002 debut, Identification Parade (which has never been out on vinyl before), and 2005's One Ten Hundred Thousand Million (which did have a limited release on vinyl back then). The two vinyl records are available now at the Peek-A-Boo Records site .

Something got pressed and re-pressed to vinyl, I wonder what... The Octopus Project - Six Feet Up The Octopus Project - The Way Things Go ps. i know that the god-like revamped version of "Rorol" is on the Golden Beds EP, but how haunting is the take off of Identification Parade ? One of their first recordings and easily still up to par with their ridiculously characteristic new tunes. The Octopus [...]

Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: The Octopus Project Video: 'Wet Gold' Highlight: The bandmates get lost at sea on a raft while a woman signals a distress call.
The Dodos Photo by Charlie Villyard The Dodos ' third album hits stores physically next week, but they have made it available digitally ever since it leaked on the torrents long ago. With Time To Die , they branch out a lot farther from their Sung Tongs starting point and seemed to have come into their own. The Animal Collective influence is still felt here, but it doesn't seem to dominate it like their last record. When this [...]
The Octopus Project ~ " Music Is Happiness " views:35 I saw The Octopus Project play at ACL last year, and they crushed it. What's not to like ~ they were playing to a hometown crowd and Yvonne Lambert plays the Theremin ! I wanted to catch their show last month at the Troubadour , but I had to go out of town. The song has been around for a while, but the video is new and [...]
Poor Jane Bradley . I made her write about this ridiculous video by some people called The Octopus Project: Apparently, there was a "pretty gnarly fog" when The Octopus Project filmed the video for "Wet Gold". Maybe I shouldn't let this choice of adjective irritate me such an inordinate amount. But I don't think words like "gnarly" or "bodacious" should be used by anyone, except maybe Bill and Ted (of Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey fame), or kids on council estates pretending to be Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles . That's [...]
Thought I'd make good use of my weekend and roundup some of late summers amazing new music videos for your Monday viewing/listening pleasure. What better way to say farewell to August and kick off September, right? Got some great stuff! What's better than ghosts, pirates and hand puppets? How about ghost and pirate hand puppets on an epic journey through heaven, sea and earth set to a great Dan Deacon song! I am really loving this new video for Dan Deacon's catchy and eclectic song "Paddling Ghost" off his album [...]

~ Erin Dillon You know that image of a musician or rockstar with an incredibly humongous ego? Well let me bust that myth: they're not all like Russell from Stillwater. In fact, they can be so genuinely kind and accepting that they make you stop and think I should be more like that. Well, that's The Octopus Project . So kind, in fact, that when my [...]
