Kishi Bashi , that's the moniker of K Ishibashi, collaborator and tour-member of acts like of Montreal , Regina Spektor , and Sondre Lerche . Just one glimpse of the artwork adorning Paralytic Stalks, the umpteenth (read eleventh) LP from Athens, Georgia (read Kevin Barnes)'s of Montreal suggests that it's not to be the record that sanitises his, nor indeed our sanity. That's not to say that there aren't moments of the subdued or unostentatious as Barnes hops across a spectrum of stylistic categorisation like a mildly maniacal nymph even within relatively concise pieces but we wouldn't want him any other way, right? If I hadn't told you that "Dour Percentage" wasn't from Of Montreal, there's a good chance you would've thought it could've been a B side from Electric Light Orchestra. I'm a massive Jeff Lynne fan and the energy that Of Montreal's channeling on their latest album, "Paralytic Stalks," evokes those extended medleys not heard nowadays. Not to mention some of the compositions used like in "Wintered Debts." They'll be hitting the road in support of the album that will bring them to my old stomping grounds of El Paso and also be playing SX. The band returned with a performance of "Dour Percentage" and brought along a fair bit of stage material with them too!
