We've been hot to trot for all things Kevin Barnes this week, in no small part due to of Montreal 's best album in a minute, Paralytic Stalks . He was kind enough to make a playlist for us and sit down for an interview , an essential compendium for his latest LP, and likely for his performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The band played their new single "Dour Percentage" off the latest LP, and true to form, eccentricity and funky pop reigned supreme in the performance. Check out the clip [...]
The OF MONTREAL and some ghosts returned to the Jimmy Fallon show last PM to perform DOUR PERCENTAGE off their recently leaked LP. Check out the visual goodness that was.

Of Montreal performed "Dour Percentage" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon . Watch the video below and pick up their album Paralytic Stalks on iTunes , Amazon MP3 , CD Social Bookmarking...

Dour Percentage - of Montreal // Buy Of Montreal is a name synonymous with garish theatricality. In their music, and especially in their stage shows, the band takes showmanship to levels previously thought unreachable. No matter how complex or orchestral the music is, though, I could never truly see past this theatricality - they were always just a bit too silly to take seriously. Paralytic Stalks is the album that changed this notion. It's not silly or overtly large. It's mature, surprising music. [...]
1. of Montreal - "Wintered Debts" (The sprawling first single trades in the loping country-pop of their Elephant 6 beginnings and is mixed with an ambient, psychedelic passage. It is taken from the lyrically, more personal and musically, less glammy new album Paralytic Stalks out now on Polyvinyl.) http://www.ofmontreal.net/ Download: http://www.ofmontreal.net/wp-c ontent/uploads/2011/11/of_Mont real-Wintered_Debts.mp3 2. Dusdin Condren I'm not playing "firsties" here, but I've always known that Sharon Van Etten would go on to big things since writing up her debut Because I Was In Love back in October 2009 , and following 20102s excellent epic it seemed pretty clear that her third album Tramp - released yesterday - would be the one that would see her break out in a big way. That said, I'm still surprised at just [...]
For the third album in a row (fourth, if you count that one EP ), Kevin Barnes (who is , for all intents and purposes, of Montreal ) aims to shake the shadow of Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? , his well-received 2007 release. With all the requisite elements of a good concept album–instrumental passages aplenty, an unforgettable climax, and a deep, cryptic backstory that culminates in Barnes' transformation into glam-funk superstar Georgie Fruit– Hissing Fauna has proven a particularly tough act to follow, the sort of record that's come to define of Montreal so deeply that it's near impossible [...]

Of Montreal - Paralytic Stalks By Russell Warfield At this point in Of Montreal 's career, it's becoming just as much fun to guess what they'll do next as it is to actually hear it. Beginning their life as a jingly-jangly '60s pop outfit, more recent efforts have included a sort-of concept album which saw vocalist/mastermind Kevin Barnes transform into a black transsexual funk vocalist called Georgie Fruit halfway through its running time, as well as an hour long patchwork of thirty-to-sixty second ADD-riddled vignettes. 2010's False Priest [...]

Tweet Ever since the huge acclaim "Hissing Fauna" received back in 2007, the popular opinion is that of Montreal haven't come anywhere close to reaching that level of achievement since. That isn't how I feel. "Skeletal Lamping" was a mess, but it was a beautiful mess. "False Priest" wasn't the type of album we would want to hear from oM , but it was still a good album regardless. Then, "thecontrollersphere EP", the rushed finale to the "series" of [...]
There may not be as much dancing as the "Lonely Boy" video, but the new Black Keys video for "Gold on the Ceiling" is still pretty cool. You can find "Gold on the Ceiling" on 20112s acclaimed El Camino and you can see the Black Keys live in Seattle on May 8th at Key Arena. Here's a name we haven't heard in a while. Daft Punk is reported to be working with famed disco and R&B producer Nile Rodgers on a new album! The band [...]

This is certainly a big week with some incredibly exciting new releases. Sharon Van Etten drops an introspective follow-up to 2010's Epic and A Place To Bury Strangers puts out a small shoegaze-y EP before heading out on tour. The rest of the releases, from Of Montreal , Dr. Dog , and Royal Baths , all share a similar psychedelic background, but still manage to stand alone as unique projects. Today, of Montreal releases its latest collection of pop cacophony, Paralytic Stalks . This time around, musical brewmeister Kevin Barnes mixes things up, intermingling the influences of 20th century classical composers like Partch and Ligeti, experimenting with through-composition, and using session players for the first time. Paralytic Stalks also marks the first time in quite awhile that Barnes has written or recorded without the use of an alternate persona or character. Consequence of Sound 's Research Editor Len Comaratta caught up with Barnes while he was at home in Athens, GA as he and the [...]

One of the most fruitful weeks yet this year for new music releases. We're proud to feature Philadelphia's own Dr. Dog whose Be The Void is out today. We're quite excited about this album, not only because they're from Philly, but their last effort Shame Shame featured some great tracks such as "Jackie Wants A Black Eye" and "Where'd All The Time Go". Lots more to get to this week including The Twilight Sad with their creepy-titled No One Can [...]

Of Montreal returns for their bi-annual album release with Paralytic Stalks. If there is anything to glean from this release it is that band leader Kevin Barnes may be spending too much time alone. Read more »
