İnsanlar üşümesin diye kitaplarının üstünü örtüyor, aşık olduğumuz kadınlar hala The Smiths albüm kapaklarındaki afilli hatunlara benziyor ve gözlerdeki Sophia Loren hüznü yüreklere işliyordu. 6.45 vapuru Kadıköy'den zamanında kalkıyor haliyle yetişmek [...]

Since forming in late 2009, punk super group OFF! has released the First Four EPs and played shows everywhere, from Canada's version of SXSW to the actual SXSW . This fall, the four-piece featuring Keith Morris, Dimitri Coats, Steven Shane McDonald, and Mario Rubalcaba will continue their travels when they embark a lengthy North American tour. After a chunk of European shows and festival gigs later this month, the band will return stateside on September 3rd and play for crowds in Denver, CO, Nashville, TN, [...]

Download audio file (download.php?filename=2011-08 -01_off_recordings_podcast_epi sode44_by_homework.mp3) Sweet, dubby, chilled out house mixset. Straight out of Amsterdam. By the wunderduo Homework . Makes me feel like dropping all the busy bee activities and go to a nearest park with my headphones just to chill out for a small while. Big love! Usually we stick to our own epic podcast series but this mixtape just got to be heard by broader masses. Trust me it will make your day better no matter what. Bonus Listen: [...]

Photograph by Sabrina Diemert Toronto's North by Northeast - or NXNE - is the younger cousin and orienteering opposite of the behemoth Austin music extravaganza South by Southwest. Over its 17 years, the festival has swollen to 7 days of concerts (ranging from cozy church acoustic sets to sprawling punk moshing at Yonge and Dundas Square), films (mostly music-centric documentaries, including this year's highly touted Better Than Something: Jay Reatard ) and interactive conferences (if you were a musician and could get advice from Brian Wilson, wouldn't you?). As with any event attempting to [...]

During Fleet Foxes' headlining set on Saturday night, I looked up from the crowd to the jumbo-tron on the left and noticed the boom camera was high in the air shooting the audience. It was an endless sea of faces made orange by the stage's flood light and a surprisingly powerful street-light that hung over the main stage. Eighteen thousand people watching Fleet Foxes - if you would have told me three years ago that this Seattle collective would be playing for 18,000 people I would have pushed you down a hill. It's a testament to the spirit [...]
There was no shortage of ironic T-shirts, hats or moustaches at Pitchfork . The cups of Heineken stayed cold for about 45 seconds and the smell of weed hung in the humid, 90-plus degree air. But most of all, there was plenty of great music. My favorites shows Saturday and Sunday: Woods , Off! and Kurt Vile . Here's more of what I liked about this year's Pitchfork: Woods made the most of its 45-minute set. It was one of the early [...]
Monday Afternoon Quick Fix runs every Monday afternoon to showcase the best of Chicago music news, views and stories from around the interwebs and blogosphere that we might have missed. • The Reader’s Miles Raymer catches up with OFF! frontman Keith Morris to talk about record collecting and punk rock expectations. • While we didn’t exactly love Destroyer’s set at Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend, John Dugan over at Time Out Chicago surely did. • WBEZ’s beloved curmudgeon Jim DeRogatis (my spirit [...]

As the Sun Airway crowd exited the side stage Saturday afternoon, and the Off! crowd made their way in, the average age of the attendees immediately increased by a good ten, maybe fifteen years. Off!'s Keith Morris, looked a little older, too. One could see a bald spot between those trademark dreadlocks. And, my did he seem cordial. In carefully measured words, he gave the crowd a polite greeting and explained how his band were going to bring a different style to the festival. He introduced bassist, Steven McDonald, a man Morris had known since McDonald was eleven and walked [...]

My ears are still not right after seeing OFF! back-to-back nights at NXNE. Chicago, and in particular attendees of Pitchfork, you have been warned. OFF! on Tour July 16 - Pitchfork Music Fest - Chicago, IL July 17 - Reggie's Rock Club - Chicago, IL Aug 6 - Hevy Festival - Lympne (Kent), UK Aug 7 - Wedgerooms - Portsmouth, UK Aug 9 - Haffenklang - Hamburg, GER Aug 12 - Øyafestival - Oslo, NOR Aug 13 - Way Out West - Göteborg, [...]
Fleet Foxes and TV on the Rado headline Pitchfork Saturday and Sunday but I'm far more excited about seeing at least a dozen other bands. I'd be happy to see Zola Jesus Saturday night and then head to the bus stop before the rest of the masses. Likewise on Sunday: Deerhunter is a must-see and it would be great to catch Cut Copy but I'm just not that jazzed about TV on the Radio . As I said before , the early bands are [...]

Here's a fun photo - I call it the rock photo of the week - taken this week from a Brooklyn, NY show for the House of Vans festival featuring Superchunk, Off! and others. Photo by Andrew St. Clair . He captures.....something right. Read all about the show at Brooklyn Vegan .

House of Vans (Brooklyn, NY) If you'd like to catch free shows by Superchunk, Fucked Up, Man Man and more, you can RSVP to the FYF SUMMER SERIES AT HOUSE OF VANS* over at vans.com/houseparties . Lineup for the August 18 and August 25 shows will be announced shortly. * The House of Vans is a 24000 square foot skate park and event space located at 25 Franklin St. in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
The 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival is going down this weekend in Chicago and as in past years ( 2008 , 2009 , 2010 ) I Rock Cleveland will be there with photographer Mara Robinson to document this yearly gathering of music fans, hipsters, aging indie rockers, and other assorted cool people with questionable sartorial sense. One of the festival's greatest strengths, and one of the reasons I keep going back is its freshness and diversity of performers. During Pitchfork's three days of music you'll see classic indie acts (Guided by Voices, Superchunk, and Sonic Youth's Thurston [...]
Lots of new videos hitting the web in the past few days, the latest from Ty Segall and Cults both happen to be for songs that are at least a year old. OFF!'s video comes from their 7 inch EP collection and will take about 37 seconds of your time. Ty Segall - "Girlfriend" OFF! - "Full of Shit" (Live) Cults - "Go Outside"

Didn't think I'd be typing the words "Adult Swim" into two posts today, but here we are. Not only does Adult Swim currently have their summer singles deelie going on right now, but they've also got tracks from the forthcoming Cerebral Ballzy album on lock, too. I know, not the most serious of band names, but this New York four-piece actually does reach a new level of ballsy. It's to the point where the word's original "s" really doesn't suffice. The four songs Adult Swim has streaming on its site bring that intense speed and volume any great [...]
A year ago, this site published my review of Rohnert Park, the then-new album from San Francisco based hardcore act Ceremony. I cited the similarities of that record with those of comparatively more popular acts Fucked Up and Pissed Jeans, two groups that record for "indie" labels that are distinct from those owned by the [...]
