Starting out, I was based in the live music capital of the world, Austin, Texas. There is a band worth checking out every night, from the big names playing Emo's or Stubb's to the locals cutting their teeth at The Parish or Mohawk. Here are some the best that I had to pleasure to notice. Most people know Spoon and Voxtrot . They are the darlings of the Austin indie scene. Instrumental sensations Explosions in the Sky are opening for Smashing Pumpkins. Okkervil River [...]

Photography by Cultural Vision Wouldn't you know, it's already mid-summer-ish. Where does the time go? Goodness... Well, between our bocce ball, booze, and barbeque fest we are having tomorrow (a BBBBBQ if you will) and an accumulation of albums & wonderful songs on my ipod, it was time for another installment of one of my favorite features... yes my friends, it was time for a new TSURURADIO Presents Mixtape. Now, some songs are from previous posts, some are new, [...]

Oh No! Oh My! bestätigen, dass der nächste Sommerhit (The Party Punch) nur von ihnen kommen kann/muss. Oder wie Alternative Press schreibt: "perfectly delicious indie pop with enough bite to take the edge off the summer swelter—yum!" Ich find's herrlich! mp3: Oh [...]
This is really, really good. YANP-fav Oh No! Oh My! just released their cover of Huey Lewis' "Finally Found a Home." It's to be featured on the upcoming Are You Still With Me?! tribute to Lewis. In addition to being a sweet song, this also gives me the chance to ...
Common knowledge that Architecture In Helsinki are an Aussie quirk-pop sextet, but who knew they were so trampy? The second vid for Places Like This comes from track three, which sets their "Give it to me baby"s and horn-y cartoon pop to synchronized, gravity-defying bouncing and colorful, parachute-y blouses. Looks like a good time, but it's all fun and games 'til somebody gets stuck in the air.

HSB photographer Akmal Naim attended a Oh No! Oh My! and The Deadly Syndrome show last Thursday, July 19th at the Troubadour. Here are a few of the photos of the two acts, both of which are highly recommended by HSB (and, coincidentally, are on Dim Mak Records). You can see higher quality versions of these pictures as well as the rest of the pictures from the show at the Flickr sets . The Deadly Syndrome [...]

I kept reading about Oh No! Oh My! And ignoring them, I don't know why I even like the name. But last night I finally took a listen to their EP Between The Devil and The Sea and immediately regretted ignoring them so long. This band is like a mix of all my favorite sounds (sans the horns and syncopated beats of ska). They're often categorized as twee-pop which is understandable but singers Greg Barkley and Daniel Hoxmeier's sometimes strangely brittle voices kept their sound from getting too sweet. At best the songs almost have a Neutral Milk Hotel feel [...]
Backed by that indelible Casio hook and the guitars that echo it, "Our Mouths Were Wet" is a song about the moment before a kiss (or a song about the anticipation of a harvest; it's hard to tell from these lyrics) and arguably the highlight of Between The Devil And The Sea , Oh No! Oh My! ' s new EP for Dim Mak , due out on August 7th. The release smacks of "we signed to this label like a year ago, so we should probably do them a favor and release something," [...]

One of SVB and seemingly many others in the hype-o-sphere love love love the delicious indie-pop of the Austin band Oh No! Oh My! and we're as happy as hummingbirds in a field of coral bells that they've got a new ep coming soon called Between The Devil And The Sea on Dim Mak Records . And in just a couple of days the boys have a big record release party down in Austin at The Parish [...]
Yikes, July snuck up on me this year. In honor of the quickly rising temperature, here is a Summer "Activities" list for all you apartment dwellers. The great outdoors can only take you so far. Beach Reads The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay The Human Stain Y: The Last Man Sunny Sounds [mp3] Oh No! Oh My! - [...]
I'm going to do my best to avoid rambling on and on about Austin artists here at SOTO since I will soon be writing for the Austin Sound, which covers anything related to the scene in town, but today I need to make an exception for Oh No! Oh My!. The band, formerly known as the Jolly Rogers, call the great Dim Mak Records (Klaxons, Pony Up, Mystery Jets, Datarock) home and they make incredibly catchy indie pop that is about to be made readily available to the world on an EP in August titled Between The Devil [...]
TV Note #1: The second episode of Flight of the Conchords aired this Sunday on HBO and I have to say this is positively one of the funniest shows to hit the boob tube in ages. The songs are brilliant, and amazingly catchy, the cast is dynamic and sharp, and the writing is superb. All this leads me to believe it will be canceled after one season. Stylus Magazine is posting their summer mixes this week, and as a big fan of the summer mix I have to say they are doing a [...]

Oh No! Oh My! have created the quintessential summer song! The Party Punch is filled with up-beat sunshine. The band themselves are even go-hippidy; We are "chocked full of sunshine, wit and feel good energy, which translates into lively, interactive performances that will get your head bobbing and hands clapping." If this song does not fulfill your summer needs, you can always check out last summers hottness , or wait for this summers! Buy This Album [...]

More new music coming your way. This song by Austin band Oh No! Oh My! qualifies as a perfectly fine summer song. Their tunes, according to their MySpace write up, are "chocked full of sunshine, wit and feel good energy, which translates into lively, interactive performances that will get your head bobbing and hands clapping." Oh No! Oh My! - The Party Punch (mp3) - from the upcoming EP, Between the Devil and the Sea; check out their previous release on . [...]
Who's in the mood for fun airy pop? You? Me? All of us? The boys from Austin are back with a new EP, a new tour, a new label, and a new lease on my heart. Between the Devil and the Sea will be released on Dim Mak Records on August 7th, 2007. And Keeping with the tradition of bands that I enjoy they will be missing detroit... :( US Tour Dates: July 5 – Austin, TX @ The Parish July 12 – Lubbock, TX [...]

The blogs are buzzing about Oh No! Oh My! who is currently on tour with a fave of mine, Au Revoir Simone. Their music is funny to me, because it sounds all up beat and happy until you listen to the lyrics. I guess you could compare it with songs you hear from Pelle Carlberg. Haha. It's good music though, excellent vocal harmonies. And I love, LOVE the hand clapping! They are preparing to release a summer EP, Between The Devil And The Sea . Take a listen: [...]

"The Party Punch" With a somewhat overlooked eponymous debut album under their belts, Texas trio Oh No! Oh My! decide to look towards their old material to get a little recognition. The songs on the "new" EP, having been recorded under a previous incarnation by the name of The Jolly Rogers, have been around since before their debut as Oh No! Oh My! I must admit to being a little disappointed last year after purchasing their self-released album without any of the songs from [...]

Band of Horses haben kürzlich eine UK-exklusive 7-inch veröffentlicht, die irgendwie anders ist als das bisherige Schaffen der Band. Um so besser für die Band, dass der Track trotzdem fesselt. Band of Horses - The Ends not Near Minimal-Indie: immer wieder erstaunlich wie wenig Akkorde ein guter Song braucht. The Rosebuds - Blue Bird Indietronic in Bestform: Throw Me The Statue - About to Walk Der Partykiller im wahrsten Sinn des [...]
Ok, so I know I just made a little rant in the Islands post below about indie pop, but one of the few other indie pop bands I can actually stand is Oh No! Oh My! ...so it may seem a bit ironic for me to follow up the Islands post with this one, but today's news is just too good not to share! Coming later this summer on Dim Mak Records is a new EP, Between The Devil And The Sea , featuring five previously unreleased tracks recorded back [...]

Oh No! Oh My! , who had signed to Dim Mak at the beginning of the year, have announced more details on the EP they'll be releasing on August 7th. Entitled Between The Devil And The Sea , the band will be supporting it by going on tour with Au Revoir Simone . Check out all of the dates below as well as the tracklist for the EP and a brand new song from it. By the way, I just realized that I'm posting on two [...]
