The sun has been with us for a couple of days now and last night may be the last time to enjoy it for a few days at least. So tonight you'll be dragging out the charcoal and the steaks and getting your BBQ on, that's if you haven't already. Here's a summery mix by Leeds man Kidkanevil to help with your evening. It features a healthy dose of slightly wonky Hip Hop, all drenched liberally in audio sunlight. Thanks to Natural Self for this one: 1. Kankick – [...]

The Heavy have been quiet for long enough. They will release 3 singles this Spring / Summer leading up to the October release of their sophomore album, The House That Dirt Built, produced by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Editors, Kasabian). The first tune, 'Oh No! Not You Again!' Share This:

Producer Oh No remixed Guilty Simpson's song, "Kill 'Em," off of last year's Ode To The Ghetto , for a result that's better than the original song. I can dig it. Guilty Simpson: "Killer" (Produced by Oh No)

In an extra super special 30 th birthday (Andy) edition of the smörgåsbord we have some sweet tracks to down. Whet your appetite with an amuse-bouche of looping, pensive house, wash it down with a Fleet Foxes b-side from their very first single, then saddle up to the buffet line and get a helping of music from a commercial, and and top it all off with a slice of birthday song. Rekid - Next Stop Chicago (mp3) from the Next Stop Chicago single Fleet [...]
Here's a new collaboration featuring MF DOOM and Ghostface. With a new LP coming out soon, it's almost like DOOM is coming back from the dead. The "MF" must have been holding him down. This track was produced by the brother of Madlib , Oh No , and given its colorful array of subject matters--meth, murder, money--it should be no surprise that it's soundtracking the latest addition to the Grand Theft Auto series, Chinatown Wars . Don't wait to hear the track on the game, though. Chinatown [...]

Ghostface and DOOM have been collaborating since way back. Doom beats on Ghost albums, then Ghost on the Dangerdoom album. Now Ghost is on Dooms new album "Born Like This". Well, Rockstar has a new Grand Theft Auto coming out for DS and it features a new song with these villains. It is one of my favorite songs with them ever. You can get the original and remix at RAPPCATS via Stones Throw. Remix and original by OH NO. Enjoy! Ghostface & Doom - China Town Wars Ghostface & Doom - China [...]

As I've mentioned before, Alchemist is one of the best producers in the game right now. Al sat down with the good people of Akai Pro and talked to them about many things, and one of them being how he uses the MPC for production. As many of you may or may not know, [...]

Thank You Jay Dee Act 4 is the newest installment mixed by J. Rocc of Stones Throw Records . It's a tribute to the late great J Dilla and has been a reoccurring theme since his illness took his life. With each Act J. Rocc brings us deeper into a psychedelic mind fuck of songs. Each time he comes back harder to let people remember who the greatest was and always will be. ------------------- Also, I added one of the most recent songs on the 45's series from Stones Throw & Now Again Records [...]
I got an email earlier today stating that the Chicago's Promoter Ordinance, which was tabled last May after an outcry from opponents who said that its passing would result in certain disaster for Chicago's music scene, was going to be pushed "for a second attempt...through legislation" by the Chicago City Council. That email, on the behalf of the 4themusic organization, was based upon initial

- Take a sparce, immaculately vocalized song, such as " Sleep Station - Fallen " off of Sleep Station's Hang in there Charlie. - Read the album's liner notes , figure out what the heck the song is about. - Listen to the song over and over until you can hear the background atmospherics and evaporating strings of guitar extract in your sleep. - Channel the story the original artist was trying to tell, adding what you imagine he left out for lack of [...]
