The band has dusted off their leather-fringe jackets and is returning to the spotlight with the new album Americana slated for release June 5 via Reprise records. [...]

It's been nine years since the release of a proper Neil Young and Crazy Horse album, and needless to say the announcement of the new disc aptly titled Americana due out on 5/12/2012 has been met with a great deal of excitement. That said, a recent interview with Neil divulging details about the new album consisting of "mostly grade school tunes" was a bit confusing, and honestly tempered a bit of the excitement for many of us. Well, if you haven't figured this out by now, Neil Young is going to do pretty much whatever he wants to [...]

An album that's being on my playlist for the last couple of months is the The Garden by Australian born Ruth Moody who grew up in the Canadian Prairies in Manitoba and is probably best known as a founder member of the wonderful Wailin' Jennys she has also fronted the Canadian band Scruj MacDuhk - later to become The Duhks and although she's released solo material before (the Blue Muse EP in 2002) this is Ruth's first full length album, the twelve track release features an all original set of tunes on which [...]

Sometimes stars align... and other times they simply tour together. While not household names, Matthew Barber and Oh Susanna have talent in spades. If playing fields were level, these two song writers would be viewed as Canadian music royalty. Thankfully, the two have joined forces for the "He Said, She Said" tour and The Carleton gladly welcomes the duo . Remarkably, you can see both artists on June 20th for only twenty bucks. I know we've talked about Matt incessantly over [...]

Soon the Birds is the sixth release from Canadian Oh Susanna (aka Suzie Ungerleider), now based in Toronto the Vancouver born singer-songwriter has accrued an acclaimed back catalogue and this album is on a par with my favourite from ten years earlier, Sleepy Little Sailor . The album was recorded with the input of several compatriots including Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo) who duets with Suzie on Lucky Ones , Ruth Moody (Wailin' Jennys) and Brenley McEachern (Madison Violet), the production was handled by Juno Award winner David Travers-Smith and the album was [...]

I often talk about the surprising number of times I've posted on an artist over the years. This time it's the opposite. I'm surprised I haven't written about Oh Susanna sooner. Her new album, her fifth, is called Soon The Birds . This Canadian songstress has a truly haunting voice. While the musicians on the new album are the cream of the crop of the Canadian scene (folks who have played with Kathleen Edwards, Ron Sexsmith, and Blue Rodeo). On the bonus track "19413 Van Dyke Parks even adds the string arrangement. [...]
Oh Susanna - Toronto-based, Juno-nominated roots/folk singer/songwriter Suzie Ungerleider returns with her sixth studio outing in just over a decade // Release : Soon the Birds (April 19 - Canada and Europe) // Quote : "My songs often are about a crossroads in someone's life, about someone facing a choice. I love when a song unwraps the layers of a person or situation and makes us look at all the facets and contradictions ..." // Sounds like : thoughtful and imaginative songwriting that, while solidly based in the modern [...]

The Patrick Sarsfield Car-Free Parade takes place this Saturday, September 19th, in Limerick city. The parade begins at 1.00pm and goes from City Hall, Merchant's Quay to the Treaty Stone on Clancy Strand and will feature music and street entertainment along the way. It will also include a sword fencing demonstration and a battle re-enactment at Clancy Strand. The event is part of European Mobility Week 2009 , which runs from September 16th to 22nd. The purpose of this week is to raise awareness about the benefits of walking, cycling and using public transport instead of bringing [...]
The night was called "Outlaws and Gunslingers" and some of Canada's premier country/alt country artists took the stage last night for an evening of good music and beer. I got to Lee's Palace on Bloor St. just as opening band, The Swallows, were ending off their set. I managed to hear four songs and did like what I had heard. I would love to see them again. Glen Milchem has a good voice but struggled a bit in his upper register, that could easily have been just a bad night because his middle/lower registers were very [...]
I compiled the 59 minutes and 59 seconds of this week's mix differently than I normally do. With the exception of the one Duffy track I've been playing all week, almost all of the songs are on the oldish side, and many of them date to the way outre millennial era. I was in a hurry leaving the house today and only had time to grab a wallet full of old mix CDs I made seven or eight years ago. There's actually four songs on here from a CD-R I made called 'The Best of 2001 (Jan-March)'. [...]
Back in September the Vancouver Sun released their first compilation album with the help of a decidedly Canadian cast of musicians. The songs on that compilation were a solid gathering of sounds and with a little digging they can still be found on the interwebs. This time around the Vancouver Sun released yet another completely free digital download filled with amazing artists. And, this time, there is a holiday theme that runs through all the music. Enjoy the tracks below. For a limited time you can download the entire compilation in high quality mp3 format direct [...]
Oh Susanna's Short Stories would probably best be categorized as Americana, though there are also elements of rock, folk, country, and light blues. Music in the family of Jeffrey Foucault or Neko... **Click on the link to read the full post, download mp3s, and comment.**
