Anyone who knows me is well aware of my love for Industrial bands, that is deep rooted in my high school and college years. I've been addicted to Nine Inch Nails ever since Pretty Hate Machine. Equally, Skinny Puppy has been an obsession since I first discovered the banging, relentless beats that cause my heart to sing. The recent solo effort from ohGr, Skinny Puppy's front man, harkens back to some of the earlier days of the band, and is a solid effort from an artist that has been exciting me for over 20 years. Skinny Puppy also put out [...]

First of all, no, these were not sent to me. I bought them with my own money. Last Monday my old Ifrogz Crew earphones broke (well, the left one did), which meant i had to go out and buy a new pair of earphones. The next day, armed with €18 (about $25 or £15), and after looking on some websites for in-ear earphones for my amount of money, i bought these. The T'nB Music Trend Stars (or Esstar, for short) cost me €17 and sounded very promissing on paper. Here are the specs: [...]

Here's a song you might find interesting. It's got that industrial feel - heavy guitar with electronic sounds. There's not much to say about it, so just listen to it already! Water - Ohgr [right click to download]

ohGr left an imploding Skinny Puppy after "The Process" was released on Rick Rubin's American Label . After stewing in contractual limbo for some years, ohGr left American and has since put out three records, which I find hold up quite favorably in relation to Skinny Puppy at their best. Late last year ohGr toured behind his third record "The Devils in My Details" . The show featured elaborate staging and was all-in-all an audio/video colossus that is so rarely [...]
Now that you've had, oh, about three hours to settle back into the work week, I guess it's time to fondly look back on the weekend that was, eh? Let's get right into it.Lil Wayne and T-Pain at America... Continue reading "Weekend Roundup: Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Ohgr, 12 Stones, Some Kid From Degrassi" >

You can tell that ohGr is an extremely creative and artistic band because of the presence of a capital letter in the middle of its name instead of at the beginning, sort of like t.A.T.u.; also, one band member is named cEvin Key, which makes the band seem even more creative and artistic. ohGr's new Devils in My Details (SPV) tumbles to No. 147 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart a week after entering at No. 18 (and spending a week at No. 9 on the Electronic album chart); one MySpace friend calls it "a bit darker and ominous than [...]

I don't remember the last time I have a true new musical experience that didn't involve a digital file, but I'm thankful that the opportunity to experience music in a physical way still exists. Although I don't patronize them as often as I'd like, the number of small upstart labels that still like to trade in vinyl is heartwarming. It may be great that any musician can plug into a USB port and have their music heard all over the world, but the intimacy of handing over a record for someone to manipulate and play can never be replaced by [...]

I came across something this week which answers a future "whatever happened to" question. Kevin Ogilvie, aka Nivek Ogre, formerly of Canadian industrial legends Skinny Puppy, has released a new album under the name ohGr. Devils In My Details is available now. You can get a free MP3 of the track "Timebomb" here: DOWNLOAD ohGr plays the Opera House in Toronto on Dec. 12th. [...]
In most contexts, when XXX appears in a title, unless your locked in a dark room by yourself, you'd probably be a bit hesitant to click the link. However, when it comes to Consequence of Sound's Friday Mixtape, XXX just refers to the edition, and a good one at that. Below you'll find a mix of the best new singles and remixes along with a few songs from some up-and-comers you might just want to check out. If that's not enough for you and/or you're still looking to celebrate Tuesday's outcome, we recommend checking out Low Life Inc.'s [...]

Ohgr , or Nivek Ogre, is a unique pressence in the music community. He started off making experimental electronic music that took a life of it's own with the creepy and transcendent industrial band Skinny Puppy. He utilized his unique growl and perspective to sing/shout grotesque stream of thought imagery. Some of their music is very disturbing, but some of it is very beautiful too. Since the band's inception the band have crossed into so many different genres, from dance, to metal, to ambient, and nearly everything in between. After collaborating with original Skinny Puppy member cEvin [...]

Argh, so many songs for this theme! I apologize if this is too many, but I managed to pare it down to....okay, I didn't pare it down much at all. CANINES New Wave pirate/highwayman/dandy Adam Ant 's Dog Eat Dog is typical of his early sound, especially the throbbing "Burundi beat" (African-derived drums). This is probably one of my favorites of his. [ Buy 'Kings of the Wild Frontier" ] Gyroscope 's [...]
