Even taken in the context of EDM's surreal global takeover, 2012 was an unusual one for dance music. In some respects the prevailing sounds were often hyper-specific and often rooted in the past. The return of 902s house tropes was noticeable across the board, often pulling liberally from MK's vaunted blueprints or those of garage house more generally. Chicago house maintained its influence, as well, even to the point of international producers adopting personas based on the city's citizens and housing projects. Techno finally dusted off the old trench coats while embracing more industrial textures and attitudes, in part the [...]

Art by Marsha Cottrell Earlier today, Savile kindly shared a previously unheard, unreleased remix of Olin 's "Tomorrow's News"; a record on Chicago's Argot imprint. His rework is just as the genre tag implies and is in fact the deepest brand of House. Enjoy a stream of said remix and catch Savile supporting Pantha Du Prince on November 2 at SmartBar .

Stream this track off of Savile & Olin 's forthcoming Horizon EP and you will automatically feel better about your life. But don't just take my word for it, see what the following acclaimed artists had to say about the Wazi Wazi Music release below and mark your calendars for the February 15th drop date. Jackmate - "Well Wish is just killing me!! Fantastic drums!!" Axel Boman - "Well, Wish and the remixes are crazy fresh guys!! Nice release!" Pol_On - "Well, Wish is so sexy and beautiful.. [...]
![[Listen] Olin: "Mirror Of Love" (Sandra Cover)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3986807_lg.jpg)

According to Last.fm , Sandra is "one of Germany’s most popular singers in modern times". That might actually be true, still I'm kinda glad that I missed that era - though admittedly, this one 's just timeless. Anyway, San Francisco synth wizard Olin (about whose rad self-titled EP we'd featured last summer ) has covered another Sandra gem, the mostly forgotten 1986 hit single " Mirror Of Love ", and somehow he managed to turn it into an even sultrier, sexier late night piece of pure seduction that sounds more mid-eighties than the [...]

Here's one from Chicago's own Olin, of the Trustus crew. He's feelin' generous this Holiday season. Remember this one from his live set before Lindstrom back in October? Nice huh? There's more to come. MP3: Olin - My Get Deep LINK: Olin Live @ Smartbar 10/08
This little Sunday fingerling of songs is dedicated to my best friend...my wife. 7 years ago yesterday we exchanged some moon rings and united on my step-father's back porch. 3 years... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Rebel Podcast: Olin After almost a month hiatus from our podcast series we're ecstatic to be back, this time with the help of Chicago born Jason Garden ( Olin ) and his contemporary take on influential house music. Garden is not only a renowned Dj around the Chicago club circuit, but an established producer of whom you'll find rather easy to throw a few head nods too. Alongside two originals, you'll find Garden's remix for Erdal Mauff and a Bon Iver remix to conclude the almost two hour long mix. Also be sure to check out [...]

Well I guess no one needs to dig very deep to come up with some solidly underpinned Ariel Pink comparisons here, but in any case I'm pretty stoked on this deliberately weirdo lo-fi synth ballad Cymbals here by unknown San Francisco dude Olin . Almost Maus-y vocals heavily buried under multiple layers of synthesizer patterns that are gently meandering along a sloppy drum machine line or briefly, all it needs to get us unreasonably excited on a Tuesday morning. Olin's four-track self-titled debut EP is the first release by Easy Tapes , the label [...]
Below is the latest edition of our weekly feature, Stuck On Repeat . The premise is simple, we’ve asked all our contributors to submit one track and a brief write-up. The track can be new or it can be [...]

Yesterday Free Magic and Olin put a free EP called The Tite and I put my highest recommendation on it if you're in the mood for some low-tempo boner jams. This is a freebie so feel free to DL the tracks and use them during sexy time. Free Magic - So Fo Real Olin - Another 1 Kyle S

Some interesting stuff today from a new sub-label of Chicago's Dust Traxx . Forem focuses on the deeper, techier side of house music, and their first two releases are already prepped with a first record from Olin (aka Thunderous Olympian and Forem 's manager), delivering an EP ranging from stabby tech house to slow-burning dreamy deep house vibes. The second release is from k-rAd , and his proffession as a sound engineer really shows on this great EP of effortless deep technical house jams. Keep your eyes on your favourite stores [...]

Celebrate fall and it's darkness at the monthly takeover of 'Rumble Lounge' at Rodan, Chicago, where minimal, subtle and moody sides of dubstep and techno and the increasing overlap between the two are explored. A night for casual listeners, aficionados, and the curious alike to enjoy a relaxing environment and appreciate the texture in the more subdued stylings of dubstep, dub-techno, uk funky, minimal house and techno with DJs Olin and akademy . Last month was fantastic, this month should be even better. Nuff said. Peep aKademy's mix below for an array of deep dub step/future dub/deep [...]
Marea convinced me that this mix is done and/or fine as is, so I guess I’ll just make a post about it. Olin is what I’ve been doing for nigh on 3 years, but always been hesitant to really do anything with . Thunderous Olympian is just fun and bullshit. Not that I’m not serious about it, but Olin is something that is so “close to my heart” right now— I need it to be perfect, which is not a tendency I usually have. In any event, I’ve figured out pretty conclusively that [...]

I was reading on cnet news about a new music streaming source called Spotify . This full-service tool allows users to search and stream as their hearts desire instead of a typical music streaming service that works similar to radio broadcasts; once the song is over it’s gone until the next time around. Not only does Spotify let us listen to the same song over and over until we throw up (which I am shamelessly guilty of), but it can find playlists off of Last.fm and allow the users to share them. This is very cool. [...]
