by teepoo Olivier Jarda was born in Ottawa but spent most of his time growing up in Moncton, NB. Now he lives in Halifax. He's set to release his sophomore album Good Luck Cartel . The martime influence shows in his dazzling collection of folk tunes. Piece of Fiction comes off the upcoming album. It has some colourful piano playing behind the gorgeous vocal melody. Olivier Jarda- Piece of Fiction

Four years ago, I was captivated by the humble debut EP from New Brunswick's Olivier Jarda . Diagrams was a collection of indie rock anthems and blissful fuzzed out ear worms that helped push Jarda to the top of my fictional, most listened to list. Since that time, Jarda's output has been less frequent than I hoped. The enjoyable Ghost Fees kept him writing, but Good Luck Cartel was years in the making. It makes sense; Jarda found time to write and record as he moved from country [...]

Olivier Jarda will release his sophomore LP, Good Luck Cartel , on April 10th (May UK release). Jarda recorded the album in Halifax over the last two winters with Charles Austin at Echo Chamber. "Diving Bell" facebook
Halifax-based singer/songwriter Olivier Jarda has an interesting story. He worked as a policy analyst in Washington, DC before returning to school and turning to music. That explains the commentaries on American politics that run throughout his songs. On April 10th Jarda returns with his sophomore album Good Luck Cartel . Have a listen to the track "Diving Bell" here: Here's the track list for the record: Continue reading »

Truth be told, I've always liked the EP more than the LP. In most cases, 5 or 6 songs is the perfect amount of time for a band to set a mood without belaboring the point. This year, there were tons of terrific EPs, and I'm happy that the list features a complete mismash of styles. Folk, frantic pop, garage, spacey shoegaze, and even pseudo Brit rock. If you are a regular reader of herohill, it goes without saying these probably aren't the biggest names and common picks. These EPs are however, a good cross section of acts that are [...]
Date: August 19, 2008 Venue: The Boat I'd been looking forward to seeing Olivier Jarda live since I got a hold of his excellent debut album, Diagrams , earlier this year. Thankfully for me I got that chance a few weeks ago at the Boat. Getting there in plenty of time despite circling the block to find a good spot to lock up my bike, I grabbed a beer and sat down as opener Ian Nabil took the stage. I'd never heard of Nabil before, [...]

myspace :: pre-order Ghost Fees Just the other day I was talking to Matthew about how I hadn't heard much Canadian content in the last few weeks that blew me away. Sure, a few tracks were sounding good and releases like Mark Berube 's new record were a welcome treat, but as is often the case, the summer release schedule was pretty slow. Basically, I've resorted to looping the new Fembots record over and over again, wondering if I will ever tire of the amazing songs. [...]

I have to be honest. We were going to go with BC before we jumped to New Brunswick on the herohill mix tape project. We teetered on the edge, but I really wanted to talk about Olivier Jarda , so I tried to gently nudge Shane in that direction. Jarda's latest release - Diagrams - is quite simply put, a hidden treasure. Diagrams is a surprisingly sophisticated release full of melodic indie rock songs. Well that is as generic as a description as it get, Jarda's songs are anything but. Truncated strums make you nod [...]

(Independent, Dec. 2007) I was going to write about this album last night, but I ended up being a offered a free ticket to see the Raptors (they destroyed Vince Carter and the Nets, by the way). That said, last week I promised to delve further into Olivier Jarda 's debut solo album, Diagrams (when I featured the lead-off track, " Victorian Faces " as my song of the week), so here I am-better late than never. Thankfully for me Diagrams is an album that I've pretty much [...]

Coming seemingly out of nowhere, Olivier Jarda 's debut solo album, Diagrams , has hit me like a ton of bricks. I easily could have chosen just about any of its excellent tracks to feature, but "Victorian Faces" is the one I've gone back to the most. Crashing and melodic, this song is the explosive epitaph for a respected nemesis-or ex-girlfriend ( "You had a Napoleonic run, but like Napoleon you're done" ). You better believe you'll be hearing more about his album from me! Olivier Jarda - Victorian [...]
