Track-by-track | Adventure Gun by Olympians Mountains Mountains was actually the first song me and Ben wrote together quite a few years ago and I can't really remember why we never learned to play it as a whole band. When we chose the name Olympians it was a bit of a joke, and we wanted to only have songs that had lots of shouting in and lyrics about how great we were. The immediate outcome is this song, with the chorus 'don't [...]
"When I was 12 years old I bought my first 7 inch record; Blutonic by The Bluetones. Prior to this I had a shitty transistor radio which only picked up long wave radio before upgrading to a double tape and radio. I had owned a few tapes (most notably a Classic Rock collection I begged my dad to buy with his ESSO tokens featuring my then favourite, "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty) and some copied albums from school friends. The only ones I remember were Nevermind by Nirvana and Definitely Maybe by Oasis, both [...]

Case Conrad - "Lonely Lightly Low Shine" from Leikko out sometime in 2013 Recorded in parts during residential stints in Barcelona, London and Malmö, Leikko is the second LP from Swedish band, Case Conrad. "Lonely Lightly Low Shine" skates between the dark and the light pensively. I love Robert "Lucky" Johnson's subtle picking on this track. Jenny Hval - "I Called" [...]
2012 has been a long and fulfilling year for Olympians. Their book club series has been an on-going success, they've played a host of well-received shows, and they even got to sit in the sun with team GFP to film this session with us back in the Summer. As the year draws to a close, and their single series follows suit with one last track (below), we spoke Dan from the band about pretty-much everything... You just released the last in [...]
Olympians have released three of their stunning Book Club singles so far, and now, exclusively through The 405, we are proud to premiere the final installment in the Book Club series: a track titled 'Everything's Amazing (Nobody's Happy)'. Although we feel bad for saying it, this is definitely the best track in the series (we shouldn't pick favourites really). You can hear the track below and if you'd like more information on the Book Club, click here .
Thankfully the glorious British Summer we're currently enjoying offered up a few of hours of sunshine, which allowed us the opportunity to make Olympians walk around a park for a while and find a suitable place for them to play us some songs. Norwich's finest have just released the next single in their Book Club series, which you can see the video for here , and they also play End Of The Road festival this weekend. Check out their acoustic version of [...]
Every couple of months the Norwich-based post-pop drone-folk math-barbershop menage-a-quatre that is Olympians release a new single in their series entitled The Book Club. This time we have #3, which just happens to be entitled It Was Words That Sank Our Ship . Accompanied by a video made by the glitch-magician Liam Roberts, the new single seems to try and bridge the gap between their drone-folk side, and their more guitar-based side. It is interesting to note that this is also the first single primarily composed by guitarist/synthist Ben Thompson, but it follows on Olympians tradition [...]
The Dictionary is the wonderful new single from Norwich-via-London four-piece Olympians and is the first cut from the bands Book Club project. For those of you unaware, the project is a four-single series and will be subscription-based, meaning that for the measly price of £10 you will get physical and digital versions of each single, as well as a limited edition A3 print, a hollowed out book as a case to keep all four CDs in and bonus digital material exclusive to subscribers, including b-sides, videos and remixes. A lovely idea and package indeed, but does the [...]
As the first of Tubelord’s support acts arrive on-stage the crowd begin to swell to listen to DTSP’s Math-Rock, their songs abridged by 1950’s movie sound clips. The quick tempo changes and erratic guitar lines may be typical of the Math-Rock genre but their songs are executed with such vigour and musicianship they stand out from the crowd. Equally Reno Dakota’s rhythms are strong and grooving as are their songs. The crashing-to-a-halt instrumentation yet classic song writing they also make the style their own; they are a pleasing warm-up for the headliners. Finally supporting Tubelord tonight [...]
Autograph and photo courtesy of the G Archives. Nadia Comaneci Nadia Comaneci was the first Olympian to score a perfect 10 in gymnastics during the 1976 games. She’s also been named one of the greatest athletes of the last century. I give her a perfect 10 in being nice to fans as I’ve met her as well as her husband, gold winning Olympics gymnast Bart Conner, who is also very cool. Also born today: actress Anne Hathaway, actor Ryan Gosling, rocker Neil Young, writer Wallace Shawn, artist [...]
Words: Saam Das I am a fan of the Olympics. In fact, if anyone reading this is involved in London 2012 and wants to pay me to also be involved, you will be my hero. I am also a fan of Norwich quartet Olympians . Even though they sent me an email a while back with attachments. I hate attachments. (Does anyone actually read our contact page ?) Regardless, I am quite enamoured with their pleasing math-folk sounds. [...]
